Thanks to you two. I'll have to look into that motherboard. I was already leaning towards the 1800x for my needs over the 8700k but the gaming benchmarks kinda injected a bit of fear into me seeing as I'll be using a 144hz monitor.

Any motherboard suggestions? I'm not familiar with AMD platforms. I was looking at the ASUS X370 F Gaming. Also, I'm assuming the NZXT Kraken X62 will keep the 1800X cool?

I'm thinking the I9 or Threadripper are out if my budget. So it sounds like the 1800X?

I'm sure this has been addressed many times previously... But I'm assuming not to the exact specification of my particular needs. I'm looking to upgrade my i5-4690k seeing as it is struggling to game and stream simultaneously. The choices I've come to are the Ryzen R7-1800x or the i7-8700k. The Ryzen R7-1700 was considered as well, but even though I'm an adept at overclocking I still prefer the peace of mind on not needing to. I use Xsplit. I receive 2 extra local streams from my GFs that play games with me in order to display their screens. I use a lot of audio software and virtual inputs... Along with routing and alert ducking... To produce a clean music/game/voice/alert audio experience. All of this smacks my 4690k into the ground even at 4.4ghz. The 2 extra NDI local streams are the biggest executioner to my 4690k. But I absolutely refuse to stream without their screens being part of it seeing as their voices are. None the less... It's time for an upgrade and I have no interest in a dedicated rig to stream from. I intend to pair either the R7-1800x or the i7-8700k with a NZXT Kraken X62. 32GB DDR4 3000 CAS 15(16x2). 980ti G1. EVGA 850 G2. In a Phanteks P400s. And an Intel 730 SSD. I already own all but the CPU, Cooler, RAM, Mobo, and Case. So... Ryzen R7-1800x or i7-8700k? Why? And a Mobo to match? Why? Again, this is for intensive streaming while playing intensive games like ARK. Any advise would be massively appreciated. P.S. I do not want anything to do with deliding a CPU.

280x. I'm surprised this is still being debated. It's a long known fact that the 280x outperforms the 960 all day long. The 960/4gb is no contest either. 270x > 750ti 280x > 960 290x > 970 980 > 290x Titan X > Your Couch 295x2 doesn't count as this is a Multi-GPU solution. But if I had to: 295x2 > 980 295x2 ? Titan X

I suppose it's all about your room temps. My 290x Lightning idles at around 27-32c. And goes up to 38c when watching things like YouTube. My load temps are up to 60c while gaming. With a max temp while stress testing or benchmarking being 72c. As stated above, I'd assume your case does not have very good airflow? P.S. I love the orange and black case you have.

This^ I just game, browse, and enjoy some media... 4690k never rears it's head as being slow. It's wicked fast.

I'm gonna say it, and I'm going to get mashed for doing it... I'm sick and tired of games not being optimized equally. I'm also sick and tired of AMD still having the GPU's with more raw performance in each price bracket(Up to $400), but the slackers are letting us down with drivers. I love the switch I made due to the 970's gimped nature(Still a wicked fast GPU), but now I'm getting pissed off that all the games I want to play are not optimized for AMD. Don't flame me too bad, I'm just a gamer, with gaming hardware... And I'm fed up with the fact that it's power not being exploited. Now I feel what PS3 gamers were complaining about way back in the day... how could the games look so much better on the 360 when the PS3 was just flat out more powerful? Well, money talks. And Microsoft had plenty to give out for 360 optimization. This is my first AMD GPU, and I love it... but if the trend keeps going like this, I may have no choice but to succumb, and go back to my former lover... Nvidia. *Rant End*

You'll need a USB Flash Drive. You go here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=271128 After it downloads, run it, and follow the instructions. It will make your flash drive into a bootable Windows 8.1 installation device. You'll pop the flash drive into your new computer when you've finished building it, and power it on. Mash the BIOS key, usually "Del", and set the flash drive as your primary boot device. Save and Exit. Follow the on screen instructions. During the installation, you'll enter the Key you purchased from G2A. P.S. ASRock makes awesome motherboards.

What you have there is likely CAS-10 or CAS-11. A lower CAS Latency is better than a higher frequency in regards to gaming. You have a reference GPU in it?

From what I've heard, the person it was built for says it is still looking brand new. But when building in it, I was scared poopless of scratching it. I think that goes for almost any case with acrylic side panels. One of the coolest "Budget" cases I've ever worked in though... that and the Enthoo Pro that encloses my build. P.S. "Budget" for me is $50-$100. Not to be confused with a $30 Senty... that is what I'd consider "Junk"

Sadly, you have to be very careful with the Enthoo Pro and the S340. Those are the two on your list I have experience with. Not that my Enthoo Pro is scratched, but it is clearly prone to it.

Minimum, not at maximum setting, is likely a GTX 750ti/R7-260x + i3-4160 or i5-4460. Not sure about 60fps at your desired settings though... So I'd go for at least a R9-280x + i5-4460 or i5-4590.

I changed the MoBo, the z97 Anniversary is a solid MoBo. Changed the RAM to a lower latency set, but kept the color scheme. Changed the SSD to one that is a bit faster. Changed from a 290 to a 290x. Changed the PSU to a solid Gold Certified one. Changed the monitor to one that I personally own, which is very solid. Saved you some cash on the OS. And booted the optical drive per Section: It's 2015. Rule: You do not need one. Happy building.

I would not take the risk. In some games, it may be a decent combo. But I fear that if you're going with the 980, the 4690k should be the direction you head for. Don't take the risk of bottlenecking such a fantastic GPU. Go with the i5-4690k or i7-4790k.

I'm not a fan of mechanical keyboards. So if you want cheap and quality, maybe consider the Logitech G105. Solid keyboard. As for the headset, see if you can snag a pair of Sennheiser HD518's with an AntLion Mic Mod. If you don't need the mic, just grab the HD518's. "Headsets" sound like poo. Buy some decent headphones instead. Either get the mic mod or a desktop mic.

If it is between the 970 or the 290, I'd shoot for the 290 on a budget, and the 970 for performance. If this were between the 970 and the 290x, however, I'd shoot for the 290x all day long. Cheaper and faster.
