  1. Don't see that this has been posted to clarify what Emily meant.
  2. Thanks for sharing that. That's pretty bad. I can kinda understand cracking a joke to release tension but it was the wrong one and someone should have called it out. Since it doesn't appear like that happened, hopefully, the person got taken aside and was spoken to about that. Without it be totally clear, I believe that was James Streib? If it was, I hope that he makes an apology public and as a part of the week in reflection, he expresses how he intends to reform. Since he is management, he needs to do better to ensure LMG is healthy.
  3. I see your point, but I disagree with your take. LTT is a media outlet, it is their job to do proper work on the products they show in their video. For the fact that whether they are a large company or a start-up people have worked hard on it, and an improper job is fundamentally an insult. Cause if they are testing boutique coolers on the wrong GPU, why should we trust them with any other benchmark or review they do. By failing to do a proper job, they lose trust in their process. Perfectly fair, I don't like the conflict of interest but I totally get that others draw the line in the sand otherwise.
  4. This was a lot to take in, watching both GN's videos, LTT's, and reading Maddison's chain of tweets. The Billetlabs stuff is a mix of bad practices and understandable mistakes. With the number of hats, Colton seems to be wearing, I can understand how the auction fuckup happened. Hopefully, with the slowdown, they look into hiring one or two more people to help ease his burden. That was an understandable mistake, the bad practice was clearly with Linus' initial response as well as his follow-up on the WAN show was wrong. He's talked extensively about wanting to refine the screwdriver and backpack so they were perfect for their intended use cases, so why he didn't think to make sure they were properly tested is unacceptable. The LTT benchmark inaccuracies are in many parts a non-issue to me. I don't like them existing, but I rarely make purchasing decisions off an LTT video so that's more of a personal thing. They should do better cause they can. Pretty hopefully the slowdown means they will be able to get themselves sorted. The Framework laptop investment that GN mentioned remains in my mind a bad choice. While I have had a lot of trust for the team to keep things separate, it is harder to believe it the larger the company gets and the more dependent they are on making sure they can make payroll. I think the comments about Asus getting sweetheart coverage because Gary was from there don't feel like they are valid, but I do recognise that Jake's comment about them being good do make me at least apprehensive. Finally, the biggest issue is Maddison. I really hope what happened to her didn't happen, but I'm glad there will be an independent investigation into this. Hopefully, LTT can share an anonymised update once it is over so we can be settled. I know the Yogscast went through something similar a few years back with two creators and their CEO. All guilty parties left, and better processes were implemented to ensure future bad actors can't win again. So I have hope that the outcome here is positive. I think a lot of what Maddison says re-emphasises that an LMG Employee union is necessary. Linus is perfectly right in saying that he wants to run his companies in a way that means they don't feel like they need one. But an open-door policy doesn't work at their size. He has mentioned several times on the WAN show before about meeting people who have been hired and he didn't know about them. They won't feel able to come forward if there isn't a personal connection. So yeah I hope the new CEO approaches the employees and supports them in forming a union to enable them to have plenty of rep to approach in case of issues with other employees and management going
  5. Based on current estimates, we expect to have all wave 1 backpacks shipped out in early October, assuming that currently posted delivery schedules hold up.
  6. From the most recent email from @nicklmg
  7. Actually just realised I should be able to reuse my current bequiet purerock. Not sure why I didn't think so earlier, but I'll get the new mounting kit which will be nice and easy.
  8. Yeah that makes sense cooler-wise. Will have a dig into the benchmarks again to make a informed decision.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions, small isn't really the goal here. I don't want to expend that much space for my PC but since I also use it for Plex (see OP) I need space for 3.5 inch bays. I have mulled over having a separate NAS but not feeling like the use case really has presented itself to me yet. Really good shout on the CL16 bit, missed that the others have picked up on it already, so thanks for that.
  10. Ok that's really helpful. Thanks so much. I think I may end up springing for the noctua cause the occasionally having to leave my PC running overnight training in my bedroom so quiet PC is nice and I kinda trust noctua as a brand to be solid. Also might spring for the non-k version for access to quick-sync for plex stuff. Need to double check that it is working that way currently on my PC cause if it is using 1070ti then can save a buck
  11. Largely cause I didn't know. Will have a dig into benchmarks and learn more.
  12. Ah that's good to hear. Any thoughts on the alder lake vs amd considerations?
  13. Budget (including currency): £1000 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games: Tower of Fantasy, Runescape 3 Software: Plex, FoundryVTT PhD work: Machine learning and android app development, audio manipulation, light automated video editing (largely cutting up videos in matlab) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): After approximately 7 years, it's hit time to do a proper upgrade of my old venerable PC. I've got a i7-4790, 16gb of DDR3 ram, 1070ti, 2x4tb HDDs. 1tb games SSD and a 0.25tb system drive in an ITX case. I've got a 27inch 1440p monitor, 24inch 1080p monitor and a 21inch 1080p monitor. When idling RAM usage is approximately 70-90% and the CPU is between 25-40%. I'm thinking I want to keep the 1070ti and then upgrade the ram to 32gb which necessitates a CPU, cooler and motherboard upgrade. Kinda want to move to micro-atx so I'm not starving the GPU of air like I currently am so case upgrade as well. Getting more storage bays means I can also grab another hdd around Christmas time since both 4tb drives are near full so case upgrade is needed. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/vww4PX - Here's a quick proposal. Kinda want to move over to windows 11 cause it seems nice on my mum's laptop. Curious if getting an alder lake CPU is better than the 5800x cause of the Thread Director in Windows 11. Is that CPU overkill? Can I save money perhaps
  14. Not sure if you figured it out, but scroll to the bottom of the page and there is a text box for your email.
