I'm currently using Windows Server 2016 that I got for free from the collage I go to and I do want to upgrade the storage in the future as well as maybe set up a raid setup as the machine has 4 drive bays and a extra 5.25 inch bay I can fit a adapter in for either a pair of 2.5 inch drives or a extra 3.5 inch HDD

And yes the server is a bit power hungry but after letting the Athlon 64 X2 downclock itself at idle it goes under 1ghz at idle and the server basicly idles most of the time until I either transfer some files or it does it's nightly backup to the cloud and I only am going to spend money as needed for upgrades and mantinance so I don't have a specific budget and I'm not going to buy anything really expensive for it too.

I do know somthing like a synology NAS would work but I don't have the budget to spend the money on one and for a cheaper price (not counting power consumption) I can use the machine I already have that still is comparable in performance to a Atom/Celron based server.

I'll definately look into that I don't know about SAS drives though how are they in terms of price and reliability?

Will look into those too maybe I can get a 5 drive raid array going eventually in the little thing or at least get a bay or two that's not blocked by the RAM and CPU cooler

That partlist seems good I have the RX 480 and a i5 4690k and I'm currently running overwatch at ultra settings 1080p at over 80fps and quite often going over 90fps so a RX 470 will be good

Well in my opinion at least find a old 250gb HDD off eBay for $20 so he'll be able to go for a while until he needs a bigger HDD because with the core games I play a 270gb ssd fills up fast for me since I'm not able to put the 3 core games I play on my SSD without filling it up. Also I have had good luck with some eBay hdds I remember getting 2 of them to put into builds I was building for family members and they still work great after they had the PCs for a while now.

I do video editing so that's why I have so much HDD space I have like 300gb worth of videos saved to one drive on my PC and I also managed to fill a entire 500gb drive full of games. I can thank The Witcher 3, Rise of The Tomb Raider and Doom for all that space taken up.

When you shoot video at 1080p 50fps at a pretty high bitrate with a DSLR and you also record your screen a lot when playing games for replays you will fill up HDDs very quick

I'm doing video editing on a Alienware 13 with a i7 5500U dual core with hyperthreading and 16gb of RAM with a GTX 860m 2gb and it handles 1080p fine from my DSLR with the preview quality turned down a tiny bit in Adobe premier but it works and gets the job done you should be fine with that laptop as I believe my low powered 5th gen Broadwell i7 is a bit slower then a current gen Kabylake i5

My response was more so as backlash to younger audiences assuming they're owed something from the YouTuber rather than criticism towards you or your post. It bothers me personally to watch people take free content and then criticize the publisher for not releasing videos sooner or being personally offended when the content creator changes directions in his content.

One video a day doesn't seem like an easily sustainable model, props to the guys who do it and still release good content, but I'd imagine you would have to take breaks from that.
