  1. Might just be a bad VGA cable or adapter on my desktop I keep in my room that I used a VGA cable and a DVI to VGA I get some not too noticable but still there wavy lines on the display when there's a dark image on the screen and I know it's from the cable since if I jitter the cable a bit the lines go away and come back
  2. Cant bring the modem nor my switch since it's now being used on my network which I can not disconnect but I will definately bring some eathernet cables
  3. So I'm going to be going to a friend's LAN party next week and I want to get what I'm going to bring ready before the LAN party. I'm going to bring 2 PCs, my ITX shoe box sized LAN Party/Spare PC and my 13 inch Alienware 13 laptop for a friend to play on since he can't bring his PC. I do know what perfierals I'm going to bring but I have multiple monitors and I don't know which monitor I should use. I have a 19 inch AOC 1080p 75hz Freesync display, a 23 inch 1080p Lenovo Touch screen display, two 22inch Acer 1680x1050 res displays and lastly I have my old VGA 17inch 720p Emachines display with built in speakers. Also I don't know what other stuff I should bring cable wise, the last LAN party I went to I brought my network switch and a bunch of eathernet cables and power cables but this time I want to go with a setup just for me and my one friend who is going to use my laptop. This is the PC I'm going to be bringing and it has a i5 4590 and a Radeon R7 370

      I got the joke :^')

  5. The server is sitting in the closet of the room I sleep in and I'm a very light sleeper so that server has to be as quiet as a whisper
  6. Yah I'm considering that but the noctuas are a bit pricy
  7. It's a bit of a oldie that was upgraded it's a Athlon 64 X2 2.2ghz with 4gb of RAM, a 120gb SSD boot drive with a 1tb 7200rpm Seagate storage drive, and I installed a new PSU in it that is a 300watt Seasonic 80+ Bronze power supply. It also has a PCI Express usb 3.0 card that has a built in gigabit eathernet port on it. Also I'm kind of curious how well the noctua fan will work with the CPU cooler I have.
  8. So I want to get a different fan then what came with my aftermarket CPU cooler for my file server and I want it to be somthing that's quiet and is 80mm I currently found a static pressure Cooler Master one on Amazon but I wonder if there's somthing out there that would be just as good and quieter
  9. I'll definately look into that I don't know about SAS drives though how are they in terms of price and reliability? Will look into those too maybe I can get a 5 drive raid array going eventually in the little thing or at least get a bay or two that's not blocked by the RAM and CPU cooler
  10. It's just a file server and maybe also a basic personal media server in the future. Also I'm running Windows Server 2016.
  11. I'm currently using Windows Server 2016 that I got for free from the collage I go to and I do want to upgrade the storage in the future as well as maybe set up a raid setup as the machine has 4 drive bays and a extra 5.25 inch bay I can fit a adapter in for either a pair of 2.5 inch drives or a extra 3.5 inch HDD And yes the server is a bit power hungry but after letting the Athlon 64 X2 downclock itself at idle it goes under 1ghz at idle and the server basicly idles most of the time until I either transfer some files or it does it's nightly backup to the cloud and I only am going to spend money as needed for upgrades and mantinance so I don't have a specific budget and I'm not going to buy anything really expensive for it too. I do know somthing like a synology NAS would work but I don't have the budget to spend the money on one and for a cheaper price (not counting power consumption) I can use the machine I already have that still is comparable in performance to a Atom/Celron based server.
  12. So I have a file server I set up a few weeks ago from a old Athlon 64 X2 2.2ghz Acer Desktop that had 4gb of RAM and I set it up with a 300watt Seasonic 80+ Bronze PSU, a 1tb 7200rpm Seagate Survalance drive for storage and a 120gb Silicon Power SSD for a boot drive. The first upgrade I did was to modernize the machine a bit and I got a PCI Express x1 USB 3.0 card that had a gigabit eathernet port built in and I got specificly that card so I can add a SATA 3 RAID card later on which needs the larger PCI Express slot in the server as the server only has 2 PCI Express slots For the second upgrade I got a newer DVD drive and I hooked it up to a PCI to SATA 1 card I had laying around as the machine only has 2 SATA 2 ports And now for the 3rd upgrade I'm just using parts I already have laying around I'm going to upgrade the cooling and make the server a bit quieter by replacing the old fans and putting a tower cooler in the machine And hopefully after I upgrade the cooling system there will be smoother airflow through the machine and it will run a bit quieter Also I do want to ask does anyone have any suggestions for future upgrades as I'm kind of new with figuring out a upgrade path for a file server?

Again mine is a reference model so I might be able to do it directly through AMD maybe if I ever had to

again warranty and this one is covered by Powercolor and for me it works well enough I'm mainly playing Overwatch, World of Warcraft, or World of Tanks on a 75hz 1080p monitor so it's never really pushed thst hard unless I go crazy with the scaling and antialiasing in Overwatch and World of Warcraft but I'm aiming for a high FPS in those games so I can take advantage of my extra hertz on my monitor

Got a Cryorig M9i to replace my Hyper T4 which…

nice with the new cooler I pretty much did a similar thing with my i5 and god a Antec Kuler to replace my old 212 evo. Sadly my temps haven't changed thank you Intel and your shitty IHS. Also I remember I never had any weird problems with Windows 7 or even Windows 8 but Windows 10 has more issues then a farm full of chickens.
