  1. I'm just looking for an antenna to receive airplane comms from about 20km with a semi-direct LOS, Just a couple trees in the way. I made a dipole antenna for this but have had limited success. Any ideas on directional 120mhz antennas or maybe how to make a yagi one?

    Hey!

I have an RTL-SDR and although its good for viewing some stronger signal TV shows and the local radio stations, Ive noticed there are some quite interesting frequencies within the spec of the RTL-SDR.

Mainly to name the two bigger ones would be NOAA Satellites and ADS-B Boxes on planes. This is kind of a two parter as I would like to know if either there are cheap antennas out there already or What is the best DIY solution for both frequencies. There is so much conflicting or outdated evidence for many things out there on these topics, im not even sure what software to use to get ADS-B Pings onto a map and so on. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks - Scrub

I was about to post about this, I own a bunch of those RTL DBT USB units and they work great, however, the range is limited with the default whip antenna, I recommend a Yagi antenna with a low noise amplifier for listening to satellites and as far as the ADS-B frequency range I recommend a J-pole or a Dipole antenna.

Just going to correct a few errors.

"I actually would rather have that old ass board over usb, Having dimmers Faders  is the best thing to do on live shows and I mean who does not want to slide those things up and down like a pro (Faders by them selves is not always the best, a combination of faders and buttons is what is best). I just contacted some people on lighting forums who might know what software to use. Is the submaster connected to the DMX/ paraller interface or are they seperate (Sub master is so you can have two lights pointing at one spot and then only have to slide one fader to two both lights on).? Apparently, you can even run the software on Windows 7 with compatibility but I can't find a download link. I remember using a system similar to this but it would output VGA itself with no need of a pc."

I don't see why you had to correct my previous post but sure.  Apparently, the Unit shown in the picture is referred to as "submaster" by some documentation.

I agree on the unit being too old to try scavenging free software or any for that matter, you can probably find cheaper DMX  controllers online for under 100$. I recall using a DMX Starville master 3 a couple years back for basic shows.

Is there some sort of way to mod a flip phone to relay audio from the mic back to my computer? I know it's easy with a cheap smartphone, but a flip phone uses very little battery, some of which have hundreds of hours of standby time, are much, MUCH cheaper than any smartphone currently out, etc...

The only issue is I don't know if it is possible to buy a flip phone so I can mod it this way...

I think another term for this is wiretapping? But that implies I am doing something illegal, which i'm not since it's a flip phone I want to buy so it can achieve this purpose...

Anybody know any flip phones that are easily reverse engineerable and are cheap that I can buy?

So you want a flip phone to wirelessly transmit constantly to your PC?

At the auditorium in which I work. They used this several years before I came there.

I have spent a few hours trying to find documents about these or applications that may be able to communicate with these. If you think I am crazy for trying to resurrect something this old when I can buy a simple FTDI-based USB-to-DMX on amazon ( http://a.co/1cwhgZs) on the cheap, I agree. Nevertheless, I think it would be cool if I could get it to work. I was using an HP Win10x64 laptop connected to a dock that had Parallel (Printer port) and a Serial connection on it with no luck. I tried many open-source and free DMX controller softwares as well. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

(BTW this is a direct copy of my post on /r/technology, but I am a reddit noob and don't have enough karma so that post got deleted RIP)

  6. RHA 750i, By far the best headphones, The warranty is also amazing and they have sent me 2 units for free even though I only asked them to fix a cut cable & faulty jack...

I already tried tweezers, and it does not work.

If you can get a grip on it and it does not come out then you probably wont take it out that way, I would usually say heat or some lubricant but in this case its a motherboard, I recommend Warranty (probably does not cover it) or maybe USB jack replacement.

no , composite is basically all the color and chroma put together , when vga although is analog all the color and chroma are separate.

A vga to composite adapter is.... pretty dang cheap. if you want to simulate a 737 you might have to find a way to get some at least a few dollars to do it as going the "free only" route won't get you too far.

Yeah I guess 20€ isn't much when I have spent nearly a  thousand on sim parts

you need an adapter of some form.

Standard vga doesn't carry any composite signal within it. and of course digital signals also do not carry it.

the only time a vga port carries a composite signal it when it specifically was implimented usually in the form of a laptop vga output from back in the day.

Yeah the old ATI cards and such, so no way to solder some janky cable on the mobo and get Composite? rip

From fold-out tables to small desks, I really wanted to purchase a quality desk, so after looking for a week I decided to purchase the Ikea Malm desk in Black-Brown.

    Here is the desk: https://goo.gl/ZPbZTN

With that out of the way, I have a Dell S2716DGR Monitor and I have two options, purchase the same monitor and use a horizontal mount, (I'm SOL on clamps so I'll have to use a specific mount) or I'll sell the monitor for $400 and purchase an Ultrawide monitor.

I really would rather purchase an Ultrawide Monitor, but I need an affordable option. My preference is 3440x1440 @ 100 Hz, and so far the best deal I found was the Pixio Px347c. It's only $500, being the absolute cheapest option, meets all of my requirements, and can install a mount if needed. My only issue is I would like to see some other options, and I cannot find any. Either they're way too expensive (UC99, PG348Q, Predator) or they take forever to arrive (Vast) Any suggestions?

I would personally prefer 2 monitors for flexibility however it depends on what you'll need them for. It won't matter for work such as programming but gaming on 2 monitors is not really enjoyable. Also, your pc might not even be able to run games on an ultrawide.

I'll try to design a concept car for a project and I'm looking for the program that is not so hard to use and have the features I'll probably look for. Cinema 4D and Autodesk Alias Surface are one of the best options. I'll use the trial versions anyway so no problem. Alias seemed to have a so long learning curve to me and a not user friendly interface. I mean I can just use Cinema 4D rightaway but Alias is made to design cars. I can get a little bit of help here :) Thanks guys.

Fusion 360 is free and easy to use, I use it for everything.

  12. Im currently setting up a 737 simulator and a lot of the screens for it need composite to hook up to the pc, I have a GTX1060 so obviously no composite, I cant really buy a proper adapter but i have a raspberry pi and an arduino on hand, any help I also have a GT620 lying around but it only has VGA and the signal I believe is different.

On an aside, now that I had some time to stew what I said, you could probably just do it yourself by:

    • Delid the CPU
    • Put enough solder on the IHS where the CPU die is to hopefully make good contact
    • Bake it in the oven at just over the melting point of the solder (so like what, 200C-220C?)

... and then realize the solder probably just spread out all over the place and now you have shorted out components. :/

He could do another collab with louis rossman? He seemed to have the stuff necessary for this kinda job.

kek. Nice try man. So I shouldn't watch any video in the hope that it might actually be good? I'm not sure if you're paying attention (you aren't) but the new age of garbage thumbnails and titles is a real lottery, might be good, might not be. You never know until you click.

Top quality meme though. The thing I like about forum noobs like you are the memes. That's honestly some top tier stuff. I'll have to remember that one.

    Whats the cmos

The CMOS is a battery that holds the information of the BIOS and Date & Time, its a small button cell battery on your motherboard. Check your motherboard for which headers to jump to reset the CMOS.

It gives a suggestion based on price and availability, just look for your own PSU.

So, I have plugged up my PC and have everything working, the only problem is I broke the wireless antenna and can't bring my internet source upstairs to make my connection wired. I have a Mac that can connect wirelessly and is right next to the PC. Is there a way for me to like use an ethernet cable to plug into the Mac to get wireless for my PC or to just get internet wirelessly in general?

Some PC's can convert the wifi signal and output via ethernet, not sure if your mac can but a quick google search can confirm it.
