  1. Hi fellow techies, I am not sure if this is the appropriate forum to post this question but I am not sure where else to ask. I just recently bough a new ROG Strix G713QR laptop and installed on it a second 2Tb Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe SSD, additional to the stock 1TB Intel NVMe SSD that came with the laptop. So, I then proceeded to install steam and GOG on the Intel SSD and set-up the game directory on the Samsung SSD since it is faster. I was able to implement this set in GOG with no issue - all my games downloaded without problem and play fine. However, for Steam a number of issues have come up, which have persisted despite all of my attempts to address them. Whenever I try to download a game, the download will commence as normal. It will carry on for about 10% of the download bar and all the sudden the disk usage will start to steadily go down until it reaches 0 B/s. Once that happens, the download speed will stay stable for a while longer (usually a minute or two) and will then start to jump up in speed until it completely stops. when that happens, the steam platform will freeze, not allowing me to pause the download or even switch tabs. Then it will grey out. Attempting to close the platform on the task manager does nothing, the process simply ignores the stop commands. And even trying to restart the laptop becomes difficult as it will get stuck on the shut down sequence trying to close steam - which then forces me to hold down the power button until it completely shut off. Like I said before, I have attempted to fix this multiple ways. I limited the download bandwidth, turned off windows defender and malware bytes, even re-installed steam. Moreover, while steam downloads the game I make sure to do nothing else in this drive. The issue persists. Is this somehow an issue with my new SSD? Like I said, GOG had no problem installing games in this drive. And I have also been able to copy my files. Or is it perhaps because I have steam and the games library set to different drives? I would appreciate any help on this matter, thanks in advance!
