Let me start by saying that I don't know if this is the correct section for me to be posting this in but it seemed right cause my issue is kinda related to CPU's and motherboards.
Anyway, what happened is i built a new gaming rig today with an i7 6700K on a gigabyte G1 mobo. I had everything together and in the case and when i turned it on I saw what looked like a bunch of arcing from the cpu socket general area. There was also a pop sound and a good amount of smoke what came out of the same area (along with the unmistakable smell of burning electronics.). I quickly shut off the power and after a bunch of swearing I decided to take apart the system to see if there were any obviously fried components. After thoroughly going through everything, I couldn't find any obvious signs of damage so i decided to put it back together and try again. I was expecting absolutely nothing to happen, but to my surprise it booted up just fine, and its been running for about 2 hours now without a hitch. I plan to keep on monitoring it, but my question to anyone who might know is: Do you know what it could have been that caused the flash and smoke? and: Should I be concerned even if its running fine now? Thanks
