  1. I see a lot of people questioning the credibility of LMG because of the involvement of money. What is your guys' proposed structure or solution to this problem? What does Linus have to do to convince you that he isn't a "sellout"? Does he have to do everything for free and purchase his own products? I am interested in what you guy's believe he should do differently. Not trying to be confrontational, I just don't see there being a great alternative to what they're doing that won't just totally sink them.
  2. The issue is that laptops do not generally do not have any ecc support and then server boards mostly take standard 240-pin dimms. I have eyed up that supermicro board, but it appears that the accompanying avoton cpu does not have registered support and it is soldered on.
  3. This is a good read to look through for som hard data. I'm sure you, as a scientist, will appreciate this. http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~bianca/papers/sigmetrics09.pdf
  4. I have extensively tested and have not been able to find any application that has any significant decrease in performance when using ECC memory but there is significant benefit in terms of stability. I will try to find the case study showing the number of correctable errors that ECC memory can save you from
  5. I recently came upon 36 of these ecc registered sodimms http://www.micron.com/parts/modules/ddr3-sdram/mt36kss2g72rhz-1g6?pc={CFC09406-E996-4AFE-9D06-E2504C044642} ECC SODIMM sticks are already pretty rare and registered dimms even rarer. So my question is what can these even possibly work in? I cannot seem to find anything that would be compatible with these.
  6. Is there anything actually wagered on this bet with Linus?

  7. Have you guys seen any perceivable drop in your youtube veiwership since going on to vessel? I just realized that I used to watch everything on youtube, but now since I have been a week ahead on vessel I haven't watched almost any of the videos on youtube.

Surprisingly no. We grow at such a rate that it didn't seem to bog us down :D

With that said, growth was down during the release window, so kinda? I guess? But not in any significant negative way.

  8. Engineering samples are at worst older steppings so yes they are not lesser products. I agree with that much. I in no way implied that they were worth nothing though. I just wanted to put in my two cents and say how much something similar to that would cost to acquire.
  9. "First" We are paying(or just signed up during the free period) to see it a week early on a curated site that only has trusted content creators rather than any random joe. I don't think vessel is awesome, but it has done just fine on my 10Mbps and the issues I have had are acceptable of a service that has just been released. It can save your login so you don't even have to login all the time. I don't see it as a huge issue.
  10. One that requires membership due to premium content. If you want to watch a video on HBO online then you need to login as well. I don't think it is that unreasonable on their end even if it is kind of annoying
  11. I laughed though when he balanced the motherboard with the Titans though. On the one hand it did balance th board from flipping, but it also upped the stakes for flinging a couple Titans and smacking them on the ground.
  12. I actually just enjoy watching people play with computer parts. I agree that intel and nvidia probably don't want to see him balancing the stuff like that and ripping off mounting plates, but I was still entertained by it. And just so you guys know, they gave him engineering samples of those processors so it really isnt even close to 10k worth of hardware. i don't know that many consumers ever touch engineering samples because they are much more common in the second hand server community, but they go for a fraction of the cost for the same performance. That engineering sample for them goes for roughly $1,200 not $4500 which is a huge difference.
  13. I tested 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128 and all yielded the same results on a fresh install of windows 10. I don't think windows 10 does anything special with memory management in comparison to 7 or 8 or 8.1, but it's possible.
  14. if you could post a screen shot of the top memory using programs from the resource tab while the stuttering occurs then we can likely diagnose what's going on better. Also, your computer really shouldn't be hitting 10.8 gigabytes off of a game and 20 browser tabs unless they are very heavy tabs. I have recently been doing extensive testing and I can run 20 youtube tabs in HD and benchmark various games and I was unable to go much past 6 gigabytes with anything except 4k video encoding plus a game or tons of photoshop or video editing tabs.
  15. Is there any possibility you live inside of an oven? But in all seriousness I would think that if a couple remounts and wiping the processor clean of thermal paste and reapplying then you might have a heat spreader that is not making proper contact with the die. If it somehow got slightly separated then it will no longer become a conductor of heat and instead provide a nice pocket of air to allow it to be heated up and insulated.
