  1. That's cool! I only switched to an SSD boot drive last year and holy balls it changed my world. Now I'm the one going around nagging my friends to get SSDs and no longer wait around. The speed really is incredible compared to mechanical drives. Speaking of which, my one and only SSD is already completely full, which means no more space for games or programs which isn't very nice. In fact, I'm pretty much out of all storage space now. It would easier if the economy wouldn't be so incredibly bad. Not to mention prices in Finland being ridiculously high.
  2. GTs, NF-F12s and FD Venturi HP-12s are all about equal in my books. By far the three best options. NB-eLoops would be included but you can pretty much only run them in push. Apart from that they're great. EK Vardars aren't bad but can't really compete with the ones mentioned before. Really don't know why anyone would go for Corsair SP120s, unless they really want that look or can't afford better. A word of warning though; FD Venturis have a very slight motor tick to them. It's very quiet most of time - practically inaudible - but some times you get unlucky like I recently did. I'm currently in the RMA process with 2 Venturis with horrible ticking that's audible to 5+ meters, we'll see how Fractal handles it. IME Noctuas have no audible ticking at all. Personally I've been going with FD Venturis lately simply because PWM Industrial Noctuas have been kind of difficult to get for a while now and I needed black fans. If you can deal with the looks, go for the NF-F12s, unless you need the 2000rpm industrials. In addition to the quiet operation and great performance, Noctua has by far the best warranty and RMA system in the business, which is a big reason why I've used them for my personal systems and client builds for a LONG time now. I have Noctuas that are 5 to nearly 10 years old running in many builds no problem, and the few fans I've had to RMA have been very swiftly replaced every single time.
  3. If your card has more than one DVI-port, one of them might be a single-link one. I had this exact problem, I couldn't get my refresh rate to go over 60hz on a 144hz monitor until I switched to the other DVI-port and ta-da, suddenly the problem was gone. As it turns out only one of the ports on the card was a dual-link one. I believe the card in question was either a 280x or a 290x, thought that's not really relevant. What exact model is your card?
  4. The fanboyism is strong in this thread. It seems like normally smart individuals lose all ability to think logically when it comes to this pointless debate, and discussion is reduced to fanboys screaming at eachother. Weird shit. Get whatever GPU fits your build and budget. At least in Finland the 290/x is very cheap at the moment for the performance it offers. The GTX 970 is ~50-100€ more. I recently ended up choosing a 290 Tri-X for 260€ instead of a 290x for 310€ or a GTX 970 for 390€. I figured the R9 300 cards would perform basically the same as an overclocked 290/x at a significantly higher price and chose not to wait. Now I'm not sure if I chose the right thing to do, does the 390 non-x really beat a GTX 970 by a clear margin? The R9 Fury/x and Nano seem very exciting, and if the 390/x beat the GTX 970/980 it'll be good for AMD yeah - however saying there's no logical reason to buy Nvidia is just not true. 970/980 Ti are still fantastic cards for the price and the Nvidia-exclusive features are still there.
