  1. Yes what I said in the OP. Where I'm buying it I have a deal which allows me to get a full refund on the CPU within one year. Therefore I could upgrade for free to zen2 if I get the AMD system. However you are right right now I'd be getting better performance out of Intel.
  2. What about the free CPU upgrade I can do next year? Would you still choose the intel even if there's nothing new coming out? @Firewrath9 Yeah that's why I go for the cheaper RAM on the Intel system if you look at the builds.
  3. Hello there, I have roughly 500-550€ to upgrade my PC, I use it for gaming at 1080p120hz and very light student work (Solidworks and simple programming). My current specs are these: i5 3570k 4.4GHz + Noctua NH-U12P SE2 ASUS p8Z77-v pro 16GB RAM SAPPHIRE R9 390 NITRO I need to upgrade the base platform (mobo, cpu, ram) because for the first time ever I've started to feel heavy CPU bottlenecks in games that cause stutters and random drops to 40-50fps. (Particularly BLACKOUT and BF5). Now I have made two builds but I can't decide between them. There's one important detail: I will be able to get a full 100% refund on whichever CPU I decide to buy within one year thanks to a friend's store. Only the CPU however. BUILD 1 (Intel) BUILD 2 (AMD) i5 8600k (270€) R5 2600X (200€) midrange Z390 MB (140€) midrange B450/x470 MB (140€) 16GB 3000c15 RAM (130€) 16GB 3200c14 B-die (200€) Total: 540€ Total: 540€ I'll be buying the CPU from my friend's store and the rest from Amazon.it/.de The Intel system gives me better gaming performance right now especially considering my 120hz monitor, however, I won't be able to do very much with the free CPU upgrade, the best I can hope for is a better priced 8700k/9700k next year than it is now. The AMD system, on the other hand, is set up to greatly benefit from a free upgrade to Zen 2, however, I'd be losing out on performance for the moment... (even with the great benefits that the more expensive low latency ram has on FPS it would still be behind the i5) What would you do? Any better options considering my situation?
  4. Hello,I'm looking for a laptop that fits these criteria:- 15", as sadly 14" are not very popular in europe even if I would prefer them- 1200€ or less- 2Kg (4.5lbs) maximum weight, and not too thick- dedicated graphics (940m or 950m is fine, don't really need them for gaming, but for simple Solidworks projects)- decent battery life- dual-core processor (intel U) is fine, I don't need a quad-core (intel HQ)- without optical drive if possible, as all the ones that have one are heavy / thick.- SSD. If it ships with an HDD I'm gonna put one in myself so it doesn't really matter. The only laptop I found is this: ASUS K501 http://goo.gl/R5G60NBut people say it has a pretty terrible screen, so I wanted to know if there is something else that fits my criteria but has an IPS screen. That would be amazing.
  5. Honestly if you upgrade from a gtx 960, I'd get the new AMD 480 that's being announced tomorrow. Should be pretty cheap, maximum 250-299$, offer over twice the performance of your actual 960 without being overkill as the 1070 for 1080p60 and cost over a hunderd dollars less.
  6. http://vrworld.com/2016/05/10/pascal-secrets-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080/ Pascal actually has a lower IPC than Maxwell, but the insanely higher clockspeed makes up for it.
  7. It's a common issue with the Valley Benhcmark. When closing you get 3 seconds of coil whine during the black screen. Nothing to worry about, it's because for a few seconds your GPU is rendering like a thousand fps.
  8. In my opinion either get a lower end card or get a fury.
  9. The thing is, if someone goes for the 380x there is no point in not saving up the little bit more and getting a 390, there is a huge performance gap. So either 380 and be happy about the money saved, or stretch a tiny bit more and get a 390.
  10. cap your fps to your monitor refresh rate using any method really. Crimson, radeon pro, afterburner, whatever
  11. Otherwise get a GTX960, but know that it performs about 10% worse than the 380.
