I had a customer bring in a "Windows 98" pc for repair. They had the nerve to ask me why they can not get online....Were's my slapping powder

Sounds like time to sell them a NUC. Their minds will be blown.

If they don't want a new system at all, but can let go the Win98 (hopefull SE), get them a lightweight linux distro. If they wo't allow Win98 to get replaced, just get them a PCI Ethernet adapter (those are really cheap) and get the setup going on a fresh install (if you can find the mobo drivers obviously), setting up a connection a enabling network capabilities can be tricky with that OS, I still remember how to do it and it's not as seamless as Win XP
