I rarely use this forum, I prefer others for my nerd stuff.
The criticism that LTT is getting right now is valid
But holy hay. People go from loving LTT and thinking it can do no wrong one moment to wanting to kill him the next
These extremes are not good, it isn't going to help LTT as a whole want to work towards greatness if every step they take they're going to be met by a thousand loud people telling them that they have messed up and will never recover. Mistakes are only human
Trust me though. I've been annoyed with the wrong graphs and what not in the LTT and other videos, I've been seeing them for a while now.
The fact that it took this long for LTT to have messed up this "bad" is honestly impressive. Any large group of people makes mistakes, and when they own up to it, even if the CVO/ CEO makes a stupid response first, we should meet them with some compassion. But still make sure they can better them self.
Lay out what they did wrong, and treat them like a fellow human being. And help them be better.

You don't beat a man when he is down
You don't watch someone trip and then push them back down when they try to get back up

Just keep in mind that you're talking about a lot of people, and these people work hard. Obviously.
Help them get better. And don't kill them over it.

I've watched LTT a lot over the past 10 or so years. And while they aren't perfect, they're pretty darn good. Godspeed to all at LTT, and I hope you guys are able to be better after this week. I feel like most of the community will be happy to see you back after this.

I don't think these are LMG Community members behind all these vicious comments. A lot of these accounts are like brand new and have very few posts. (I personally don't have many, but my account has been here for years). Did these people just make LTT forum accounts just to kick them when they're down?

I guess my counter point would be "If this is about LMG's mistakes, why is giving credit to anyone needed?" If I was in LMG's shoes, I'd want to keep this a out things I can fix (i.e., my production and culture issues) and avoid anything which could devolve the situation into an inter-channel beef. Giving someone credit because they called you out only accomplishes two things.

    1. It makes the conversation about your being caught rather than the problems you need to address.  If the objective from GN truly is calling Linus out and seeking some form of "justice", then there should be no expectation of kudos from LMG.
    2. It incentives others to kick up trouble even if it doesn't exist (or isn't as big of a deal as they want to make it seem). The reality is that LMG is the elephant and GN is... not an ant, but maybe a large dog. Assuming GN's intentions are as pure as newly fallen snow, LMG going out of their way to congratulate or thank GN would signal to less-ethical channels that all they have to do is create controversy at LMG in order to get a huge shout-out.

I think not mentioning GN makes a ton of sense in this case.

The internet is full of angry, drama-seeking trolls. This influx of them over the last few days is a clear demonstration, that these types will rush to anything they think they can go wild about. When this drama has cooled-down, none of these new joins are likely to post here again, and many of them will go find another internet issue to spam forums about.

Granted I don't think it works half as well trying to Copyright Strike into silence a channel of a 1.3mil subscribers as it does for a channel of 8.2mil+ subscribers

I think Paul gave great input on this issue and how it could have been addressed by the Verge. Stick till the end if you want to watch it.

@bitwit Hope you can get the video restored and the strike removed from your Youtube channel. Is the video available on Floatplane?

    Source: https://twitter.com/bitwitkyle/status/1095578571244879872

Remember when The Verge tried to build a computer and it went horribly, horribly wrong? Vox Media, parent company of The Verge, have issued a copyright strike against popular youtuber Kyle AKA "Bitwit" for the video he uploaded titled "Lyle reacts to The Verge's PC Build Video". Kyle took to twitter to share the news of the copyright strike, and warning other youtubers that also criticised The Verge's build guide that they may be next in the sights of Vox Media. The copyright takedown request removed the video from Bitwits channel, and also issued his channel with almost 1.4million subscribers a Copyright Strike which works on a 3 strikes and you're out system with the entire creators channel being removed from Youtube if 3 copyright strikes are issued to a channel within a period 3 months.

For those unaware, in September 2018 The Verge published a video guide to youtube showing how to build a computer along with an accompanying written article.
There was a fundamental lack of knowledge from those involved in the video, and the video contained many factual errors including being unable to name certain hardware, recommending incorrect tools for the job, incorrect installation methods, missing screws, and plenty more blatant mistakes. Anyone who followed the advice given in the build would be at risk of damaging their hardware or the system not working. This lead to a response from other popular youtubers in the tech community to condemn or parody the build video published by The Verge, including amongst others the aforementioned reaction video by "Lyle", a tech-illiterate character created by Kyle, published on the Bitwit youtube channel.

This copyright strike action follows a series of incidents recently where Youtube's copyright protection system has been abused by people either copyright striking videos that criticise them, or illegitimately copyright striking videos purely for financial gain. Other notable occurrences of copyright strikes being issued against youtubers include PewDiePie being copyright striked because a twitch streamer took offence to him calling her a "thot", a YouTuber being extorted for money through bogus copyright strikes, a youtuber whos video was copyright striked for using his own song, and plenty more.

This has lead to a lot of discussion recently that Youtube's copyright protection system is broken and open to abuse with illegitimate copyright claims and takedown requests which are difficult for the content creators to fight against.

cmusic52 reacted to Slick in Floatplane Subscriptions & Migrating to Floatplane.com
As you may have heard we'll be moving all subscriptions off the LTT Forums and on to Floatplane.com. You will no longer be able to subscribe through the forum AND all billing agreements made through the forum will be cut off. At this time we request that all users cancel their subscriptions on the forum and start new subscriptions on Floatplane.com.

Subscriptions done through the forum have been a major accounting problem for a long time now as the forums billing agreements have all been with Linus Media Group instead of Floatplane media which is an accounting nightmare that we are going to try to avoid in 2019.

As a gift for dealing with the hassle of migrating things over, and to cover any time you had left on your subscription, we will be granting two bonus months to all creators that you are subscribed to on Floatplane.com AND you’ll gain access to an exclusive live chat emoji all on January 31st.

    Steps to migrate successfully:
    1) Cancel your subscription on the LTT Forum

Method 1, Cancelling through the Forum:
      Hide contents
    Go to this link: https://linustechtips.com/main/clients/billing-agreements/
    click view details(on the right)
    Click on view(on the right)
    Then click cancel(on the left)

These steps are correct for most people but sometimes the cancel button is sneaky and decides to be somewhere else or isn't there at all.. This is another reason we are moving away from the LTT forums as we can't fix some of the payments problems. If these steps don't work for you please move on to Method 2.

    Method 2, Cancelling through PayPal:
      Hide contents
    Go to this link: https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay/
Scroll through your active autopays and click on 'Linus'.
On the right hand side there should be a Status row that shows 'Active'  Click the 'Cancel' Button beside it.
Click 'Cancel Automatic Payments' on the next popup.
If this fails for whatever reason.. Move on to method 3.

Method 3(Last Resort), Sudo cancel subscription:
      Hide contents
    Send an email to support@floatplane.com
Let them know your forum Username/Email and they'll take care of you. Just a heads up that the wait time will be higher than normal as we are receiving a lot of support tickets right now.

    2) Create or sign in to your existing Floatplane.com account, you can use a forum linked account, that's no problem at all.

    3) Subscribe to whatever creators you want to support. https://www.floatplane.com/browse

    4) Sit back and enjoy the content!

    5) If you had a yearly subscription – Please send an email to support@floatplane.com with your forum account name and your floatplane account name. They will make sure you get the time you had remaining on your forum subscription added to your new floatplane website subscription.

Yearly options on the new site are not available at this time but will be soon.

If all else fails.. Just send an email to support@floatplane.com with any relevant account names, emails, etc. and we'll have you taken care as soon as possible!

    Thanks!

For me, fixing this was easy; all I had to do was run the activation troubleshooter, which did something for like 2 seconds, then said Windows is now activated.
