Idk if it will even work in the rampage tbh the commando is normally better for those older chips.

It lists Pentium 4/D on specs https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_FORMULA/specifications/ and tt has celly listed https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1444/asus_rampage_formula_x48_motherboard/index2.html

The mllrkllr just used one with a 352 as well.

Ooooo... RIP. Me wants high capacity pretty ones. Is overclocked RAM actually useful on X58? Or is it just a nice to have?

If running benchmarks competitively fast RAM is very important. Compare my score and speed with the others and look at how the score gap scales between 1st - 2nd - 3rd and their respective clock speeds(I'm knock BTW) http://hwbot.org/benchmark/hwbot_x265_benchmark_-_1080p/rankings?hardwareTypeId=processor_1652&cores=2#start=0#interval=20

I know how to tweak an OS and benchmark but I blew those people out of the water completely.

Me too. So let me know first so I can buy them all muahahahahahaha!

These are 2GB each modules so not the best for a modern daily driver but they are really fast esp on X58.

Dominator GT Ver2.1 are rare and sought after for benchmarking so these come with a price premium.

The Rampage III Formula looks even nicer IMO. I was super lucky to get a great deal on one. Here's mine before it went in the system:

It's looks nice but there's something about those earlier ROG boards, the three I listed, that's just gorgeous. I'm hoping the REX 1 NB block fits REX 2 for some chilled water action.

Hehe, I picked up an X5650 (6c/12t, 2.66GHz base 3.06Ghz boost or something like that) for $17 on eBay. IDK how it overclocks though. Nice board too, I have the Rampage III Formula.

Cool give I'll it a look. Probably a better board than mine lol I just went for this because of aesthetics and price also to complete the set.. X48 Rampage Extreme - P45 Maximus II Formula and now this. I love how these boards look(my REX I is dead tho)

Really, just get whatever you feel like. If you just want to overclock, getting a Quad core might also be worth considering - the x5667 (4x3.06 Base) goes for about 20$. The e5620 for about 5 (mine did only 4.25, though there are reports of these going beyond 5 GHz)

Do you know the quad with highest multiplier available to use? I use sub-zero cooling only.

I have no idea how or why Linus needed phase change for the i7 4790K on 1.4v for 5GHz, he didn't even delid it, complete waste of time. I could have probably gotten 5.2GHz on almost 10°C full load temps with a cooler like that with a delid and Kyronaut.

It was pitiful. He used a brand new, top of the line SS but in his mind he was using an air cooler so he got air cooler results.

Perhaps the old 16 phase setup would work best. My P5Q Deluxe has a 16 phase VRM (and people say its a doubled design not 16 true phases, but I haven't found any evidence either way) and the VRM stays rather cool-the heatsink is the warmest above the Northbridge (which was under an active heatpiped cooler on the P5 Turbo)

That's a sick board, same VRM layout as my Maximus II Formula and my dearly departed X48 Rampage Extreme. I wanted the P5Q3 D but some new-old-stock GA-EP45T-UDR3 just hit ebay and I caved.

EDIT: Noooooooooooo just got a message that they sold them all and there was an ebay error :(

Those X99 WS boards are also arguably the sexiest motherboards that I have ever seen. Would love to see ASUS translate that exact design over to X299.

They perform very well too. Almost zero vdroop at extreme settings with no LLC.

It's funny when your mATX board has more EPS connectors than the flagship EATX Rampage board.

Thing is, on the open air test benches the heat can dissipate more easily than if it were in a case with poor airflow, and what aluminium fins are you talking about? Even on Z97 boards the only one I've seen with proper fins are the Sabertooth MKI with the "armour" and fans integrated into it. Most boards just use blocks with a varying amount of aluminium cut out.

    My ASUS X99M-WS has them.
