make sure the ram is at default speeds (no XMP overclocking etc.) , proper voltage, and disconnect the power and reset switch in case these switches are defective. use a screwdriver or a known good power switch to turn the computer on.

as a member of this community since NCIX days and frankly since my child hood, I want to see Linus come out of this, I want to see him in more fun off the cuff content like the old days. the community loves the vloggy style content. whole room water cooling was one of the best things LTT ever produced more crazy projects like that please. its been undoubtedly a rough week for Linus Tech Tips. but no one has anything to gain from him being berated and attacked over this. yes people are mad, but there are 120 real people working with Linus that depend on him for their Mortgage, rent, food and car payments. he is responsible for 120 incomes. so I think we need to allow LTT a chance to rectify this.

Oh, geez. I think some people have absolutely NO IDEA what constitutes harassment.

It can be anything from asking someone about their day, to someone physically assaulting someone on a break.

A hostile work environment is one where you can't even banter to someone about your day, their day without someone with a stick up their ass giving you grief for wasting company time.

Meanwhile a toxic work environment is where everyone acts as friends, but YOU are the stranger, you are the one rocking the boat, you're the one who refuses to even tell the group about that new cat you got.

Sometimes people get too comfortable and treating people like friends, that it turns into a situation where boundaries get crossed. When that happens you tell them to stop. You take it to HR when that person doesn't let up. If you don't give someone a chance to change themselves, they are going hold a grudge, and now what YOU claimed was harassment, instead turns into passive aggressive hostility, and everyone you hurt (the ego of) wants you gone.

That was the entire problem with the #metoo movement. Many people, generally men, got too comfortable in the position they were in, and felt things were just normal, when people they work with, or work under them felt that was abusing a position of power to have them do things they didn't want to be involved in.

You know what's a good acid-test for if you're a bad fit for your job? Are you invited to the Christmas party? Who comes to the Christmas party? Did you skip the Christmas party? Because when a company has a Christmas party, and people "feel like they are required to be there" and don't enjoy it. That means the company is hostile. If you aren't invited to the Christmas party, that means YOU are the problem. If you skip the Christmas party, that ALSO means YOU aren't interested in having a career with the company. And Your company is toxic when you invite everyone and your most recent hires refuse to join, or the women won't join, or maybe the people who aren't white don't join.

You can tell how bad the company you work for is by the Christmas party. Always. And just to push this narrative further, one year the company I worked for had a real Christmas party, the year before they left the country, they bought pizza... night shift always wound up with pizza or pastries because the company cafeteria was always closed during their shift. Therefore the Christmas party was no different than coming to work.

A very common pattern, and I'm not defending LMG here, is that complaints are often disregarded because "yeah that is X, he/she/they always do that, we just roll with it" but nobody actually asks if X needs help. This just how things have evolved.

Like I remember that first video with Madison and it felt like that could be very entertaining, because Madison could hold her own with Linus. But then we didn't get any more. But that one time I saw Madison in another video, she clearly wasn't happy.

But realistically, I think the expectations were too high for someone who didn't have much experience in anything. So her complaints might be legit, or maybe they embellished from what the situation actually was. I'm willing to believe either.

LTT should make a video that takes a strong tone against the Canadian cellphone carriers.

AFAIK, they refuse to support 5G, VoLTE, and VoWiFi for all the cool import phones like the Sony Xperia 1 IV and ROG Phone 6. This has gone on for long enough. 🤬 They need to start getting out of our way. What's the point of sim cards if they need to rubber stamp every phone you want to use?

This is not a usually bands/modem issue. It's a bureaucracy issue.

cloneman got a reaction from Action_Johnson in Why do Gaming Headsets even exist? (prompted by today's video)
Today's video as about wireless  wireless  wireless  wireless wireless gaming headsets, aka, an all-in-one product that provides adequate quality for many tasks, far eclisping bluetooth quality for conference calls.

What exactly has the audiophile segment done for wireless enthusiasts? And people who just want a decent wireless headset for voice calls?
    Take your time... I'll wait.

There's a 350$ Senneheiser / Jabra option for wireless DECT phone calls that's woefully inadequate for music, movies, or gaming. There's dedicated audiophile wireless headphones ... (and not much of them)... with no mic attached.

Wireless Gaming headsets are all-on-one products that provide adequatte quality for many needs, music, movies, phone calls, gaming.

Did it mention it's wireless Also, it's not bluetooth. did I mention it's not bluetooth? I'm not trying to be a dick here. There is a HUGE market for a 150$ product that does everything. People know that 90% of bluetooth headphones are complete garbage for range, microphone, and multiple use cases. This is why the proprietary wireless gaming headphone segment exists.

The marketplace is full of bad solutions as far as wireless is concerned. Gaming headsets are actually the best you can do in many cases. Unless you get an LDAC bluetooth dongle from Fiio and a seperate wired microphone. That's basically your ownly option, and then you have no mobility for taking business calls in the kitchen.

I wish audiophiles would get their had outside their anhechoic chambers for just a minute and realise what needs exist outside of listening to flac files. Most people want the quality that is afforded by 60$ wired  headphones, in a wireless format. And some people need a device that isn't some horrible bluetooth product for gaming.

Just like for some people sound is everything, for others, wireless range is everything.

Wacom makes more product than just tablets, they also make screens: Cintiq.
The Cintiq 16 for example is kind of like their tablets, but with a screen inside. You simply connect this to your PC, it's another monitor and you can draw on it.

The surface on the Cintiq is different, as the iPad or Samsung will have a more glossy screen in comparison.

You would think in 2019 that something as basic as OS-wide Left-Right Balance adjustment would be available on every platform, but it's notably absent on many versions of AOSP Android that I've used , as well as in most sound card drivers builtin with Windows 10.

After losing some hearing on my  left ear, I've had to rely on elaborate hacks to boost/equalize the volume on that side, notably, installing Peace Equalizer on Windows, and Viper4Android on Android. These solutions have some limitations:

Viper is annoying to install and often breaks on new android versions. Many people don't have access to root.
Peace Equalizer is an overkill solution for basic L/R balancing, and requires a reinstall everytime you have  new sound device (such as a pairing a bluetooth headset or connecting to a different USB port)

For platforms that tout "Easy of access" for things like high contrast and font size, this seems like a glaring omission to me. It's not like they never had L/R balance, it's just that they keep removing and re-adding it willy nilly with different versions of Android or different soundcard Drivers (windows).

    Rant over...

cloneman got a reaction from vanished in VP9 Decoding performance comparison? AMD vs Nvidia (vs intel GPU?)
I use an nVidia GTX 1070 to help with VP9 youtube decoding in Chrome, since I have an underpowered CPU.
Especially at 4K and 8K it also makes video playback possible without dropping frames or causing very high CPU loads.

However, it's always an arms race for GPU video decoding as I've read many older GPUs don't support VP9 Decoding. For example the first one to support it was the GTX960, and even the GTX970/980 does NOT support it as they were released slightly before the GTX960.

To make matters worse some platforms like Linux and MacOS don't support it either. And Chrome has been known to break this in different versions, even on Windows. AMD GPUs apparently aren't as good until maybe you reach ~2018 GPUs.

It would be nice to get LMG to make a video on this topic. (Video Decode being above 0% is how to tell if yours is actually working during youtube playback)

I have an old computer that I was looking to upgrade with either a GTX960, GTX1060 or RX570 but it's difficult to know ahead of time if the AMD Decoder even works.
To make matters even worse when the industry switches to Vp9's successor we'll have to start all over again, and we're doomed to always have shitty workarounds like h264ify

    - A built in ARM Mini PC into the Laptop Chassis ,like a RasbPi, and you can switch input to it on the LCD panel (it could run at the same time as the x86 motherboard, or by itself). This could be used as a  a very-low power alternative to running the x86 hardware for extending the battery. Or, even cooler, it can overlay other information on to the monitor at the same time as the main computer.
You could have your x86 computer on sleep mode and use the ARM hardware to instantly extend the battery. Or you could use it for google-assistant or stuff like that without turning on the "main laptop"

    - a Built in Hardware high-power class 1 USB Audio Device for Wireless headphones, APT-X Low Latency _hardware_ encoder, that bypasses the OS bluetooth stack.
    - Built-in support for a  wireless microphone that does not use bluetooth
    - a Built in Logitech Unifying receiver for the mouse
    - trackpad that has been stolen from any Apple laptop after 2009
    - An ethernet port or other interesting port that is directly on the charging brick
    - Upgrade path to low-end Dedicated GPU (for freesync or VP9 decoding) at a low cost
