My iPhone 15 Pro Max feels so intentionally nerfed by Apple.

I hate my 16" MBP to my guts, I wish I wasn't locked in this whole ecosystem thing.

    ...said no one ever.
Some of the wording in that suit feels like there's literally someone at the DOJ drinking the stereotypical "Apple hater in every comment section on the internet" kool-aid. That's gonna cost a lot of money (for the years of pointless court battle) to US taxpayers if their case is so weak and Apple manages to turn it upside down. On the other hand, usually they take on cases they can win so they may have some damning evidence (like emails, etc.) up their sleeve. But for the time being, there sure are some dumb takes in that 88-page suit.

No, but this is basic battery chemistry and circuit knowledge that you learn in your second year of EE.

I know of many Iphones of that generation that would crash when say, opening up Snapchat and the processor would turbo out of idle and start running image processing and pulling from the network at the same time. Im not about to go and find a pre updated phone with a 70% degraded battery to test out for you.

The circuits would pull enough current that the voltage output of the battery would drop below the minimum specification of the chips.

Take ANY battery, pull a current, voltage DROPS.
if the voltage drop is low enough, (hell you can do this with an old desktop PSU as well) the system CRASHES.

They have. While Apple's move was logical, lack of communication was not and that's really the issue. All they had to do was just show user a popup that degraded battery was detected and that it switched to low performance mode and give users ability to switch back on their own terms. They'd done that and none of this would be an issue.

It's hilarious that some people applaud everything their favourite brand is doing:

I clap every 5 minutes to keep the elephants away. There are no elephants around.
Conclusion: clapping is a necessity to keep elephants away.

Apple throttles devices to prevent crashes under load. There haven't been any crashes under load.
Conclusion: throttling is a necessity to prevent crashes on these devices.

    ----------------------------------------

At no point Apple have shown that throttling was a necessity on all or even the majority of affected devices. They created a vicious narrative ("we did it for our users") and they once again turned their followers into tools spreading and defending this narrative. If this would have been a feature - as Apple declared afterwards - the last thing they would have done is to not advertise it. It's Apple, come on.
The malicious intransparenty was there for a reason.
I want just to remind everyone how they secretly made noise cancelling worse...

I can tell a lot of you forget what it was like to use a shitty droid phone at the time that would crash as soon as you put a load on its anemic battery.

I think I would rather have reduced performance than a piece of shit that cant stay running without a cord plugged into it.

This was actually one of those "scandals" I never quite understood.

Should Apple have better communicated what was going on at the time? Yes. Was it some sort of planned obsolescence conspiracy? No, not really. Smartphone batteries wear down over time, this is an undeniable fact, they are going to have to be replaced eventually.

Other than that, this thread just seems like unnecessary drama for me, the Win 7 userbase is pretty negligible and the OS itself has lost support for tons of other shit years ago.

yuh25 reacted to NobleGamer in Devs learn rival Godot engine in a week to poke fun at Unity, publishes game to Steam
    Summary
After Unity outraged its community of developers by introducing per-install runtime fees for games built on the company's engine, and rolling them back to some extent, this gave two developers an idea for a game based on the install fees. Indie devs John Warner and Trevor Da Silva realized "it would now be possible for developers to become bankrupted by the action of a handful of angry troglodytes with a bat file which would automatically reinstall their game." This, they noticed, "would make a great game" itself.

    My thoughts
This is news-worthy in its own right because it is regarding a new satirical game that sheds light on not just recent events with a game engine's monetization, but also makes tangible the implications of such things and illustrates how easy it can be in some cases to switch game engines. I think it is a hilarious dev response to the Unity install Fee debacle, and making the Steam game as cheap as possible (40 cents US) is a great way to see how the real numbers would shape out if they had used Unity and paid install fees.

Are you in India, or some african country, where the vast majority of the population can't afford a smartphone in the first place? No. Then listen to yourself here. It's not "Most people don't care about the ecosystem", it's people readily buy into the ecosystem because they trust some specific brand.

Have you never seen someone's stainless steel kitchen full of samsung appliances? People simply do not know there is NOTHING to gain from owning a Samsung dishwasher and microwave over two different brands. No they buy these as a set because they get conned into believing "well Samsung made my smartphone, and I like it, maybe they make good microwaves and fridges."

When that is not a "ecosystem", you gain no benefit to owning samsung appliances to complement your samsung smartphone.

I'm reasonable except when people bring up the dead horse about Linux or Android, because people still have this god awful mindset that you should only buy things based on the price. So people who buy garbage, get a garbage experience, and those are all Android devices.

The vast majority of the junk that your wireless carrier sells, is garbage because they get the most margin on the cheapest stuff they can flog off. Meanwhile a flagship phone they get the least from, because the BOM is that much higher for a good device.

Which leads back to this entire problem in this thread. I don't expect the Walmart/Costco/Amazon $50 special to last 2 years. I sincerely do not, and I think people buy these trash devices only buy them because they don't actually use them for anything but phone calls and text messages, which is exactly what my parents did.  The only person I know with an Android phone is my sister, and she ascribes exactly to the "I don't see why an iPhone costs $1600" and yet has gone through twice as many phone as I have.

Android users tend to not expect their devices to last 2 years, because Google didn't intend for them to last 2 years. These devices were made for the people who view phones as disposable.

yuh25 reacted to Kisai in More than 4 years of Android updates for the Google Pixel 8!
I have yet to see anyone use an Android phone beyond it's service life who used it for anything but phone and text. The key point here you chose to ignore is that your average person who buys an android phone, bought it because they were told it was cheap, and many people don't use anything on Android phones because they have no "ecosystem" to use it with. I don't know of a single person with a 2+ year old android phone, who also happens to have a Linux computer. As far as I know, they don't exist.

Where as every person I know with an iPhone, owns at least two other pieces of other Apple kit. Apple watches, Apple computers, iPads, etc.

So yes, every single "50$ walmart special" Android phone is likely unusable crap within the year, but the people who bought those, bought those because all they need is a phone, not some gadget to do their banking on.
