Well, the fast boot in the BIOS isn't the same thing as the "fast boot" in Windows 8, but the hybrid shut down/boot in Windows 8 should be on by default. Seems that it is, if you're booting in 15-25s.

Is there more code? It seems like some of it might be missing. Linked lists are actually very similar. You basically have nodes, where each node holds its value, and a pointer to the next node.

Not sure what you mean by childish. If you mean the user experience is designed well, than yeah. Windows 8.1 changes a couple things in the the Metro environment, like being able to snap more apps together/resize their widths, more tile sizes, ways to sort the apps list, kernel improvements, the start button, more settings moved to the Metro PC Settings app, etc.
