  1. 1. Budget & Location Hi there! I'm a resident of Oregon (USA) so you don't have to factor in any sales tax. The upper end of my budget is $2600, but I'd prefer to keep it around $2,400 if possible. I'm currently upgrading from a late 2012 iMac that has spent its entire life running Bootcamp. It's lasted me until now because of the smexy 768GB SSD that I paid $1.2k for.. What a tragic mistake this was. 2. Aim The computer is mostly going to be used for 3D modeling, advanced physics rendering, and gaming with my SO. I plan on sticking in a second GPU later down the line and doing a build similar to Linus' "2 computers 1 cpu" build. I plan on playing some AAA titles as well as League, Overwatch, and maybe Minecraft? I mostly need a powerful GPU for GPU accelerated physics and rendering in 3D projects (more CUDA cores please!!), and a high core-count CPU for the eventual dual-computer setup. 3. Monitors I plan on running three at most (two for me, one for her). I have no intention of leaving my current 2560x1440 27" beauty, but might end up picking up a second one. Don't factor these into the total price. 4. Peripherals No need for any new peripherals. 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm currently upgrading from a late 2012 iMac that has spent its entire life running Bootcamp. It's lasted me until now because of the smexy 768GB SSD that I paid $1.2k for.. What a tragic mistake this was. I need more rendering power, the ability to upgrade in the future, and an ACTUAL GPU. I have an idea of what I want here (and this would be installed horizontally in a hand-built and finished desk). Feedback on that/new builds are very appreciated and I look forward to making a build log! Thanks, Ben
  2. My dad works from home on a 7 year old computer still running the HDD it shipped with. (He's gotten used to the waiting 20 seconds for Chrome to open). While his birthday was last October, I'd still love to do something nice for him and install this puppy.
  3. The Intel Xeon X5472 (3.0GHz) runs at 1600MHz while the Intel Xeon X5450 (3.0GHz) runs at 1333MHz. They are both around $20. I'm looking to build two dual xeon render bugs for rendering in Maya, C4D, and AE. My single 3770K isn't cutting it. What is the difference between the 1600MHz and 1333MHz? Will either affect my overall performance? Thanks in advance!
  4. Reasons why I need the ZBOX in my life: 1 - College dorms are small - ZBOX is small 2 - Girlfriend has a 2008 MacBook - ZBOX is not 2008 MacBook 3 - Studying to be an animator - Having a second computer to render on would be heaven 4 - Have open space on my desk - ZBOX fits in that space 5 - ... Profit
  5. Going to be really honest here.. My current mouse is filled with pizza crumbs. HOWEVER, I promise to keep all pizza fingers away from the FinalMouse (for at least 6 months, after that all bets are off) should I win. EDIT: Alright, I'm upping the ante and going to a full 12 months and it now includes ALL kinds of crumbs. I'll post update pics if requested.
  6. I would be able to step up the overall quality of my League of Legends streams, take on recording video content in 4K, and use the amazing overlay abilities & chat embed features. Currently, recording tutorials in 720p leaves text blurry and the less than optimal audio codec in the free version makes my Blue Yeti Pro sound like garbage. My viewers deserve higher quality content, but on top of paying monthly for programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier, and Audition among others, it's difficult to add yet another expense to the list. I hope that the increase in quality will encourage my audience to support me, and I can continue to provide the opportunity for those who love design and animation to take it to the next level.
