Kinda strange assertion, don't you think? I mean the reason we (the customers) want competition is to get better products for better prices. Now you are claiming NVidia offering a great product for a great price is.... bad for competition? That does not check out for me. We can be pleased that NVidia is not abusing their monopoly as much as they could do. Instead, they beat themselves up by basically deleting every reason to buy a Turing GPU. That is something we want from AMD,... but why do we need them, if NVidia is doing it themselves?
-
There will be no major surprises. Why would there? The test done is actually all you need. You want to know the uplift, there you go. How much could go wrong after that? Is it possible the new GPUs have terrible 0.1% lows? Well, maybe... but most certainly not likely!? And if all those games run that well, most of which are the standard go to games for most reviews anyways, how are the chances that all other games suddenly run way worse?

"New breakthrough in battery tech",... again! And.... again! .... aaaaand again. We have had like two dozen breakthroughs since we last changed what we use today, no?

Apple now accounting for almost half (47%) of phone sales
Tech Enthusiast replied to wall03's topic in Tech News
iPhone is pretty much an US thing. It kind of reflects the sentiment of the people in each country. iPhones are pretty restricted, shiny on the outside, not so shiny on the inside. Not wanting to sound too negative or political here, but that fits perfectly with the US right now. All talk about being the greatest, yet people need food banks, don't have health or unemployment insurance and so on. So iPhones seem like a perfect fit. Looking good seems way more important than actually being good. In Germany you have a few avid fans, but most people kinda ignore Apple. In the Asian market they seem to be sub 10%. Globally they are behind Huawaii (even without android ffs), Samsung and I guess also some other brands by now or 3rd at best. They make "ok" phones. Thats about it. -
Windows 10: HOSTS file blocking telemetry is now flagged as a risk
Tech Enthusiast replied to Korben's topic in Tech News
When using BitDefender, about 2 years ago... it blocked me from even trying to modify that file. So, it is not only Microsoft Defender. I mean,.. That file is like a whitelist for stuff not just pass trough. It is better to not touch it, unless you really know what you are doing. Marking it as a "risk", is obviously spot on and correct.- 49 replies

Why is that? About 100% of his information has proven correct, at least the ones I checked. Did not find a single wrong information. Hell, he spoiled all the Apple stuff, as accurate as the MINUTE they would go up, including all the prices and features.... weeks and months before it happened. He seems to be pretty damn spot on. So, why does he have no credibility?

As funny as it was meant to be: This is actually the exact same thing big companies do,... while people pull out their torches. People keep jumping on the hate train, when any company "uses their data". The holy data! Rarely do people think about what the companies actually DO with said data. Google improves the search engine. Which in turn works better for every user. Hardware manufacturer improve their products by checking on how they are being used by the different user groups. Which in turn focuses the money on areas that are more important to the customer. Which in turn improves the product for every user. They both ALSO get more money due to users enjoying their products more. Yes. So, if LTT is harvesting the forum for Video ideas we get exactly the same situation: We get better content, since it is based around our behavior. They get more money. So how is that different to google, VPNs, NVidia, AMD, Intel,... or any other company for that matter? I personally like companies "harvesting my data", since it leads to better products while I personally have zero downsides to it. The products are slightly cheaper, slightly better and slightly more how I like them (unless I am using them way different then the masses). If a company flat out claims to NOT do it, but actually does do it, I am upset due to the lying tho. That goes without saying. Also, free Software,... give me a break. Nothing is free. People spend time and resources creating the stuff. Someone, somehow IS paying. This may not always be the end user, not always be the end users data,... but there is no free software.

USA - EARN IT Act Will Weaken Online Privacy, Wins 22-0 Pre-Vote
Tech Enthusiast replied to Aereldor's topic in Tech News
So, unrelated, but I can't help myself: If in California some 17 year olds are in a relation for 2 years, do the dirty every night and one of them turns 18,... do they suddenly have to stop and wait until the second also turns 18 in order to not get locked up or something? That sounds a little crazy, no? Then again: Laws on perfectly natural behavior seem to be more harsh than shooting other people in the face, so there is that. -
USA - EARN IT Act Will Weaken Online Privacy, Wins 22-0 Pre-Vote
Tech Enthusiast replied to Aereldor's topic in Tech News
Pretty sure THAT time is over. At least germany stopped following US examples a while ago. Usually the EU follows germany and not the US anymore. Asia is following Chinas example for the most part. Honestly, there is very little the US does that countries feel the need to copy anymore. Apart maybe Russia,... they could learn a trick or two when it comes to staying in power and getting away with everything. -

Not sure the OP or this reply is more upsetting to me. Feeling sorry for my US friends, pretty much more every single day. You guys really push hard to become the next dictatorship with zero rights for its citizens. All the "Sex is illegal, but children shooting guns and killing people is fine!" - deal is just crazy, but honestly not even in the top 5 of problems you guys face. Just amazing on how deep the once great nation has fallen. -
Your next BMW might only have heated seats for 3 months
Tech Enthusiast replied to White Brownie's topic in Tech News
As a BMW owner I can tell you: There is no way this is gonna work without an issue or without people cracking it within 5 minutes. BMW does outsource every piece of software. They barely have any IT personal themselves. And if you own one, you notice that. The software is a hack piece. Every single part seems to be developed by another team and patched together with tape. Nothing is working really well (tho, most stuff does work well enough). If their security stuff would not rock so hard, I would sell the car right away. But right now, only Tesla and BMW seem to have a car that avoids accidents by itself. And I don't have a convenient way to recharge a car just yet, so I am kind of forced to keep the BMW. As soon as Audi makes the same system (or Mercedes starts making non ugly cars), I will switch in a heartbeat.- 87 replies

Leaked Microsoft document hints at second next-gen Xbox
Tech Enthusiast replied to AndreiArgeanu's topic in Tech News
Fair points. I keep forgetting that my country is pretty rich (or so it seems compared to what I read in forums at least). 100 bucks more or less would hardly even matter to the unemployed here. Anyone with a job would just laugh at 100-200 price tag differences for a 4-8 year purchase. For a middle class worker that is not even half a day of work. Sorry if anyone got offended by my ideas about the price. Hard to get into the mindset, if you can never get into a position like that. Feeling sorry for the folks that have to cut corners so badly that even a 33% performance target is even remotely a valid option. -
Leaked Microsoft document hints at second next-gen Xbox
Tech Enthusiast replied to AndreiArgeanu's topic in Tech News
Well, I would not waste my money for a console that runs like crap for my kids. No. Obviously "it is for stupid kids!" argument is not gonna stick well with me here. Wasted money, is wasted money and especially for my kids I would never look at money tbh. Grown ups have a hard time dealing with crappy stuff in order to save money. Kids simply want fun and enjoy their time. And kids are not dumb enough to not notice if a game runs well, or stutters and gets annoying. Also: A console that lasts for 4-8 years is hardly expensive, if 3 months worth of federal bonus is paying it anyways. If you have three kids it is a single month worth of bonus, so hardly a huge deal to make your kids happy, no? Also, usually you spend less than 33% money for 33% performance when it comes to PCs or tech in general. I don't think I ever saw something that is not on an exponential curve upwards. You want 50% more performance? You gotta pay 2-3x the money. -
Leaked Microsoft document hints at second next-gen Xbox
Tech Enthusiast replied to AndreiArgeanu's topic in Tech News
Will people buying consoles totally ignore it if a lower end version is actually down to 1/3rd of the performance? I get it, spending less has value, but how much less would people want to spend in order to be happy about a 33% performance version? I am all for options, don't get me wrong. I just question the numbers here. If a big XBOX is 500 bucks and a cheap one would be 300, but only includes 33% of the performance... who would call that a good deal? By that logic just not spending ANY money on a new console, would be an even better deal, as the old(current) XBOX has more performance anyways. I just don't get it. Do customer really flat out ignore just how much they get less, if they can spend a few bucks less? -

Shameless self quote. They are targeting 4 TFlops of GPU performance. Important part is toward themiddle of the linked article: -

Not according to the Specs MS targets on the dev kit, no. It will be less powerful than the current X. -

Tech Enthusiast replied to AndreiArgeanu's topic in Tech News
Doubt they can deliver "value" with a light console that has 1/3rd of the GPU juice. Hell, even if they sold it at 100 bucks, would anyone really buy it? A "current" gen console has 50% more power than the rumored new light version. Could just as well get a switch and ninja an XBOX emulator onto there,... see how that plays out. I stand by my reasoning, that this is not a second console version, but a straight up different product for a different market. -

Tech Enthusiast replied to AndreiArgeanu's topic in Tech News
This rumored cheaper Console will have 1/3rd of the GPU power and a slightly underclocked CPU. 4TFlops of GPU power opposed to 12TFlops on the "big" brother. This is either: wrong Not a small console, but a handheld version a pure streaming Box. No way in hell would people pay for a console that is SLOWER than current gen (6TFlops), no matter if it is only 200 bucks. (Yes, I realize how bad a comparison TFlops can be, but for the same GPU architecture, the relative Performance is quite correct 4 <-> 12 is a pretty huge difference). So,... * about 100mhz more boost clock, that is not even a guarantee. * same price. * no more boxed coolers included (for the top cpus that is) Kind of... well... a Kaby-Lake-Move, isn't it? Yes, just a refresh, but still. A possible 4% single core gain, while multicore will likely not change at all due to boost clocks not staying there? Uhm, well. AMD is dominating the CPU market now, so I guess good guy AMD has left the building now. All hail the new 1-4% per Upgrade overlords!

Another Sony LEAK: WH1000-XM4 launching on 24th June ???
Tech Enthusiast replied to rahulr94's topic in Tech News
You did not try them then. If you do, you suddenly forget the price. They are that good, simple as that. Bought mine for 250 about two months ago. Kind of sad they get replaced so soon, but thats what you get in Tech, where upgrades come yearly. Once these ones die for some reason, ill buy another pair right away, without even thinking about the price. -
Whats "too good" about that? That is kind of how it always was... any new x60GPU was about last gen x70... and new x70 usually battled it out with old x80s. Hell, if BigNavi is any good, NVidia might even have to make the jump even bigger. But nothing unreasonable about those rumors. Id just call those rumors a solid guess by looking back at past generation leaps.
-
Do we know if BigNavi will support Ray Tracing btw? Not gonna lie,... but I kind of fell in love with the few games that do support it,... realistic shadows are kind of a thing that I always hated in games and I found myself enjoying ray traced Games, even when disliking the genre / game itself. Hell, I started playing Minecraft again because of that. Kind of don't see myself "upgrading" to any GPU without it tbh. I know there where plenty of rumors about RT coming to Consoles yadda, yadda,... but I did not catch any of that in the presentations of those consoles. (granted I kind of got bored 10 min in the first xbox presentation). Do we have any proof or confirmed RT information? Like, really confirmed?
