  1. Damn, that sucks to hear. I want to do a platform refresh, but as far as I can figure the cheapest that can happen is like 300USD. And I'd still be stuck with my HD6850's. Suppose I went ham and got a 1080 today, would I still see a performance improvement? Then at least I would have it ready and waiting when I do get around to doing a platform refresh.
  2. My CPU is clocking in at 3.7 GHz right now and it's a quad-core. I know it's old but is it really so slow that it's going to be a bottleneck?
  3. If I could just grab a credit card and buy whatever, I wouldn't need to be asking for suggestions. There's a good chance their budget will be sub-200USD. But it might be more. So unless you've got suggestions for a new platform + GPU in the same price range as the GPU's alone, your comment isn't really helpful.
  4. The newest game I've been playing is Civ 6. I also play more graphically-intense games like Fallout 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
  5. Hey LTT community, long time fan, first time poster. The holidays are creeping up and I'd like to put a new graphics card on my wishlist. The catch is that I don't exactly know the budget of the people who may or may not be buying for me. So, I thought I'd pick out an RX 470, an RX 480, a GTX 1070, and a GTX 1080, to give the buyer a wide range of options. The primary use-case is gaming. Mostly low-power stuff like League of Legends in 1080p. However, I'd like to upgrade to 1440p or even 4K in the near-ish future, hence the 1070 and 1080. I'm also considering streaming. Here is the link to my current setup on PCPartPicker. Honestly, any suggestions you folks can give would be greatly appreciated. I think I've included all the pertinent info, but if I missed something let me know. PS if I posted this in the wrong place, let me know and I'll move it. EDIT: To clarify, I was hoping for specific models of those cards that I could link to.
  6. Linus Tech Tips: We're so good with computers, we actually don't know how to break them.
  7. I like the idea of you guys doing more informal DIY style videos, but this particular one is honestly pretty terrible. The actual "DIY" portion was just "buy an LED strip, stick it to your case." I try not to get upset when videos fill up with ad spots, but this one was bad. Even the the actual "content" was basically just a plug for stuff that we can buy through your affiliate link. If you're going to do more of these, I suggest either: A. Do something a little more in-depth/intimidating. Maybe something with soldering, or at least something where there's some amount of planning involved. B. Do more plugs for nifty gadgets, but do like 3 or 4 different "mini-projects" in one video. That way the end result is more like the Handy Tech series, but with real-world examples of how you might use the handy tech. I would honestly lean toward option B, because option A is more for the enthusiasts, which the channel caters to enough already. Also, option B still let's you fill up a video with plugs for affiliates/sponsors, which is always good.
