Ah yes the old "ban things I don't like" method.
Define social media, please, and do it in detail.
Should we ban social gatherings in person as well because someone might get hurt?
How about we ban text messaging since people can still be attacked that way. While we are at it let's just ban all forms of communication and the internet as a whole because it's been shown nobody can use it responsibly....

OR how about we stop this "ban everything" horse crap and take a holistic approach to addressing the root cause of the damn issue? Because that's complicated and can't be used for political grandstanding. We need easy "wins" for the votes, not actual wins for the people.

This law reeks of nonsense, first it's "the parents should be in charge of their children and supervise them" and from the exact same fucking side its now "upload identity verification to a third party website if you want access to websites because the government needs to know you're safe". This will have the same impact as banning other things, it won't work, people will still get access, people will still be exploited, and nothing will change for the better in the end.

Wow... so having a high market share means you are a monopoly apparently. Want to know something funny, that 39.66% of other, shows that Apple indeed does not have a monopoly by definition. By that logic, Boeing has a monopoly too on the 700 series, or that Youtube is the monopoly on video streaming.

If you want to see a real monopoly, check out Luxotica.

JoshB2084 reacted to Kisai in Steam is dropping support for Windows 7 and macOS Mohave (and older), which could break or prevent downloading purchased games
It's very likely the only reason it's been around this long is because of the underlying CEF framework they basically entirely switched the UI over to. The previous UI was all 32-bit stuff that was different on Mac and Windows. But CEF's basically 64-bit only.

This was posted in MARCH of this THIS year.

    https://groups.google.com/g/cef-announce/c/Lpw5PP5LPNc
That links back to the above

Basically 100% certainty that this is driven by the CEF used in Steam.

As for 32-bit games vs 64-bit games. A lot of 32-bit Windows XP era games don't even work on Windows 7, never mind 8/10/11.  At some point Steam is going to need to invoke the same linux wrappers used to run games on the Steam Deck for 32-bit games built before Windows Vista/7 because of Microsoft's own breaking backwards compatibility.

Fortunately, and this applies to Games only, not applications, many games don't really invoke the Windows UI or other special libraries unless they have network functionality. So many games can be wrapped with little functionality loss, and anything that explicitly relies on that functionality, can still be virtualized in Windows XP or Windows 98.

Orange Box, which is basically the game package that "Steam" launched with, came out in the early Vista era. So Steam itself has pretty much been sitting in that Vista/7 support window since it's inception.

Using adblock is NOT stealing, and if you seriously think it is, well, I‘m afraid there‘s nothing I can do to change that twisted conception.
again, where do you get this number from? From the same giganto corporation that you‘re defending so hard here that we should make them more money by not only selling our data but also wasting time looking at braindead ads?
yeah again, boohoo poor Google. If no ad is played, no affiliates are paid.
People that don‘t watch ads contribute nothing? Sure. They only provide
    - Watch time statistics
    - like/dislike
    - comments
    - sub counts
    - their whole bloody watch history

all to a company that makes money almost only through selling user data. Figure out how to make money with that data gold mine.
Or give me a sensible premium subscription that also removes any and all tracking/data collection.

I do play by their rules, which include using every technical aid I have at my disposal to skip ads.
Mandatory bundling of a subscription for a video platform that removes ads (and enables background play ffs) with a music service that nobody asked for is a very stupid rule, especially in light of the near-monopoly that YT has.

I subscribed a while back, but then the titles turned into clickbait junk, not even mentioning the name of the product that they're allegedly reviewing, and becoming the equivalent of an internet post that states: "You won't believe what they said next!"

And a bit later, I noticed they actively addressed this, and actually included it again. But then a few months later... it was back to the old ways. They think they're too big to fail, and so they're back to crappy titles like "Why is EVERYONE buying this Mic??"

Which mic? Put it in the title. Don't just have a beard grinning at me.

Every company falls at some point, and the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Even before recent events which I won't mention here, I've far more enjoyed reviews and coverage from the likes of Gamers Nexus. They actually treat their viewers like adults.
