  1. Apologies about the mixup, the active projects doesn't support easy viewing unless you click on them one by one. My guess is that perhaps those scientists researching those diseases aren't active at the moment or require some other forms of research before they need to use the folding mechanisms provided by FaH. Maybe one of the active projects do have some relevance to those targets but folding@home seems to have become a resource that helps science in general and updates can be sparce especially in providing information towards folders about what the scientists are doing unless it is an amazing update like "we cured cancer" or something super special. If it does become active again and you are looking to support fighting those diseases the advanced ui also gives the choice to specify the disease you wish to fight under the "cause preference" title in the advanced tab of the configure section
  2. I thought they were the main ones to choose from http://client.foldingathome.org Then look at the drop down menu that says "I support research fighting" and pick from the four main choices Alzheimer's, Huntingon's, Parkinson's or Cancer....
  3. I did about 800WU and 10,000,000 points worth on my gtx 970 and about 2 years general usage have noticed I cant boost as much after that, but that PROBABLY IS DUE TO TIME and other factors such as driver updates. So just fold for a day see how many points you get. Should be able to get 50 days 24/7 before ANY noticeable difference. HEAT is the primary factor in degrading graphics cards so those fans are doing a good job. You can adjust the folding power in the advanced control area down so that your parts don't work 100% too. Folding@home says 36 cents a day for a computer so bump it up to 50 cents for a beefy computer.
  4. You generally don't need a liquid cooler unless you have a unlocked "k" processor and overclock it. Or you know...an amd one. But yeah liquid is the best, even if it brings the risk of water shorting all your expensive computer parts
  5. Got a 970 on my rig, a new polaris card would be amazing with the planned xeon upgrade
  6. He's looking into making bios for different brands of 970s, there is a spot for strix in the first post as well as some AMP bios for the EXTREME CORE edition. He just needs the original BIOS that is shipped inside the card Also thats a pretty decent OC @SympathyRS, do you know what brand memory you have Hynix or maybe Samsung?
  7. Personally I wouldn't mind this one if I ever water-cooled mine, anyway I think I found my folding problem, it seemed that when I fold the clock speed goes past the boost rate of the clock, so when I was overclocking it would go past even that boost of around +170 (boost at 1499), but the clock would be going above 1550 and failing. I lowered the oc to +120 (boost 1449) and now the clock when folding is 1524, but it produces a wicked loud coil whine due to maybe my card being unable to use the voltage at a reasonable level 1.275. I might have to lower the voltage bios or just keep stock speeds if I want to fold anymore
  8. Yeah have the 1.275 one, and I did this after I woke up, seems to have worked, will update this particular post if it underclocks again, so far so good thanks Gofspar It does seem to have messed the fold though, still at 10 hours and getting bad state, will probably reset on its own Update: got bad stated out of it at 59% and now have a hard difficulty 0*15 core to fold, fingers crossed 2nd update: After getting a new fold the graphics card has stepped down to 405 clock and 810 mem (.85 V). Could this be because I have overclocked too far and am causing bad states with the fold?
  9. So I'm folding using the improved bios but after playing some kerbal space program when I fold it is always underclocking with only 405 clock and 800 memory. I uninstalled geforce experience from rumours that it might be deliberately underclocking but havent gotten any folding speed back yet. Does anyone else have this problem?
  10. Yeah furmark had an initial spike to 73 then settled to around 60 Lara croft had a easy 50, btw has anyone noticed that Lara's hands are like gigantic for her, like she has the biggest manliest hands in the game
  11. Just Valley and Heaven for about an hour each, I will come back in an hour with furmark
  12. Hey guys, just got my new g1 970 and I think I got a decent one, had another one that wasn't that great got at +150 core and +300 mem, exchanged it and now I can bring my ideal of 1500 core (171) and 2000 mem (500) with a stable 71C at max. Thanks Gofspar The temperature jump from stock to custom bios seemed to be about 3 degrees higher but that could have been the surroundings as I did it at night Was just wondering if replacing stock paste with artic mx4 will help temps much or if its too much of a hassle as I heard some g1 cards have a messy application but other people say that there is no need. Used the 1.275V bios
  13. I would also recommend gigabyte if only for the 3 year warranty it has down here in Australia. That way if it breaks and you have a decent rma at the shop you bought it from (some are terrible) you can probably get credit because the 280 series probably will be phased out if and when it breaks. Also 3 fans is good for everything, but if you like the look of the other graphics cards and have a window then grab one of the others
