  1. I'm going over what the "Geforce Experience" claims are recommended specs for VR. It would appear I meet all of them accept for Graphics card. As you'll see, the graphics card is just about the newest thing in this computer. It would be rather surprising that some of this hardware, going on more than 5 years old, could be fully capable for this, but if it weren't capable of other things, then I guess I wouldn't be inclined to update it, unless a certain part fails. Recently I've been saving diligently for a new PC... over a fairly long period of time. I just about have enough to upgrade everything essential... except the graphics card. If I go ahead with the upgrade, i'll just have the system, with a few parts from the old PC, but really, I'll just be doing what I've been able to do already, but slightly... betterer??? and it honestly that won't really do much for me. I've had my sights set on VR for a long time, even in it's current loopy state. I know that there's a supposed new minimum spec, but i'm ultimately hoping to play Elite Dangerous or Obduction with this. With this information, I really need to know... Am I really a graphics card update away from Being VR ready? Do these parts meet the requirements? Here is the system in question. I need a straight answer. Am I good for the sole GPU upgrade, or will I have to sit on this longer?
  2. I'd like a good chair setup and good mounting capability to correctly position flight controls, but forgo surround monitors for a VR solution. Also that X55 looks good, though I have the X52 and that feels pretty good and more affordable.
  3. I'm genuinely interested, however... This is the year the Rift supposedly goes final so i'll probably persevere and wait for that. mainly since I see this being an ideal display for my Elite: Dangerous endeavours (not SC, need a PC that can drive that game good on that kind of monitor). otherwise my dual 1080p screen will do me fine for a good while more Speaking of my dual 1080p screens. they barely fit so i'd struggle to find somewhere to put it. But in a perfect situation, i'd quickly snag this up in a jiffy (or Giffy if you prefer). It'll probably cost a metric bum ton, mind.
  4. I'd prefer Luke, because then we'd have to deal with Linus' taste in music, so much.
  5. >Linus calls out on Facebook for help >Followed link and voted for Luke instead
  6. I'm liking that laser focus, I'd like good camera on my phone.
  7. Why would you do that? There's literally nothing to gain from doing that.
  8. I haven't upgraded in a good few years. I'm stuck on an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T which isn't too bad, but with the amaze balls tech in intel CPUs these days. I don't feel bad... I'm just a little frustrated. All I need is time... and lots of money. So... mostly, time. Ok so this isn't really a crime, so... I use a mini Mac (late 2009) on my bedside table... oo-er! Edit: Actually after visiting the forum for a bit I came up with a real shocker! I love Windows 8 and I love my surface pro. Bam! The point is, if I could, I'd upgrade my main PC to windy 8 in a heartbeat.
  9. Sometimes I use the torrent to get Tool Assisted Speedrun videos from tasvideos.org when the direct mirror doesn't work so well... which is rare. Direct mirror is usually the least fussy, don't have to fiddle with torrent before and after the download.
  10. Long post incoming. at least I took the liberty of inserting smaller thumbnails instead of full images. http://i.imgur.com/ol7xdwb.jpg Main desk, in all its horror... and all its glory. http://imgur.com/spc8CHl Bedside Mini Mac. This is the one very particular situation where the Magic trackpad truly shines. http://imgur.com/hzy5qYQ Second desk and a Windows XP 'wayback machine' for some legacy operations that require a little more authenticity than a Windy 98 VM. That Compaq CRT is one of the best looking displays i've ever seen, even stuff at low res looks good. its no wonder it weighs 30 Kilos. Hands up if you know where that background is from (therefore verifying your good taste in games) http://imgur.com/KVCys6s Speaking of the wayback machine, we have a large collection of PC Authority and PC PowerPlay mags (see the Imgur link for the full res image and go on a nostalgia trip), some odd webcomic books, albums, Sound cards, TV Tuners, and Nichijou (in Finnish), also the 'Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 machine' and the Xbox One (the original and best... I have dear memories, the system link parties were real!) with Phantom Crash on top, its a good custom mecha game with some lovely Japanese quirks (kinda like Nichijou!) Also the glowing blue Phillips Hue Bridge. http://imgur.com/Izif31z Speaking of Lovely japanese quirks... amongst other things. Also my old Radeon HD 4780. the greatest Graphics card ever made. it was truly the best value for its performance. May it rest in peace... or in (one) piece. http://i.imgur.com/DbnIOoQ.jpg And here's what's on the top of the shelf. A few boxed games (some PC games back when I had neither the patience nor the data to download them) The old Sidewinder 3D Pro, unusable at the moment but still looks awesome. And of course the Saitek X52 waiting the day it can come back down, just in time for Arena Commander. (May 30th!) And no, i'm not a member of anon. It's just a bit of silly internet memorabilia, like a horse head, or revoltech woody. And to top it off... here is my Hue lights in action... http://imgur.com/hIsipIa http://imgur.com/h2P7zeZ http://imgur.com/1BfuFZI
  11. Not my fault, but I was once given the task of seeing why a CPU was overheating, and upon removing the stock AMD cooler, found that the plastic cover was still on the bottom. Something that was my fault, while I was being told careful instructions on fixing some guy's registry, I must of misheard or went ahead and wound up deleting... something. poor guy I was working with went into shock. Fixed the problem though.
  12. I will be a hardcore Console player when Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn comes out!
  13. My first console was the SNES, with the game being Super Mario World... in fact since Cartridges were so expensive, it was the only game I owned. We rented and borrowed, but yeah, we had a lot more games to play when we got our PS1... that and the PC we had anyway
  14. Personally, i'm trying to gain back one of those used systems after I gameshared with a friend in Canada, and his PS3 went belly up. Unfortunately there isn't a remote way to deactivate that console. And why wouldn't there be!? I just wanted to do the kindly thing... no one in their right mind would pay for that much LittleBigPlanet DLC
