  1. Hello! I am working on a project for my YouTube channel where I am using 4K video from a Fuji X-T3 camera. I use H264 codec and I am able to have a fairly stable workflow. I was thinking of upgrading my PC to a more modern CPU, and the 9900K comes up as a preferred choice these days. But I am not sure the "upgrade" would be worthed. The current water-cooled 4930K is a 6 core 12 lane cpu and uses quad channel memory, which I have 32 GB's of it. I also use a water-cooled 1080 Ti. The processor overclocks to 4.5 GHz. If I go for the 9900K it will have 8 cores, dual channel memory. But it will also give me nvMe compatibility, optane compatibility, accelerated h265 processing on Premiere etc. Anyone using a 9900k for video editing 4K h265 files? How is that experience? Is is smooth as silk or does scrubbing snags a little (which is what I am currently experiencing with h264, I can't even touch H265 because the processor doesn't have a built-in video co-processor on the dye. I bought this system in 2014 and I am still amazed that it is holding up so well. But those 4k video files are really tough. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Ok, relatively newb to exotic overclocking solutions. What is a shunt mod?
  3. Hello! I just got an EVGA 1080 Ti Hybrid. Anybody has done a power mod on this card? Where are the diodes located, same as FE? Is this card a FE with extra thermocouples for the extra temperature readings?
  4. When I overclock both cards I pull about 750 W for the whole system, playing 1 or 2 hours or so pulling so much power can rack up the electric bill quite a bit. Plus SLI is not as smooth as I thought. I just don't want to loose quality on games. Ultrawide is not quite 4K but it is pretty hard to drive.
  5. I currently run 2 980 Ti's in SLI on a Ultrawide GSync monitor where I currently get about 65 to 75 FPS on Witcher 3, Ultra everything (including Hairworks). I want to replace those cards with a single 1080 Ti and would like to know your opinion if it would keep up with the performance of 2 980 Ti's under those circumstances. Appreciate i!
  6. I currently write on piece of wood with nails and eat fish guts by lake. Last computer I used had electron tubes from Soviet Union instead of chip from Intel.
  7. This is my first GFX Card cycle after many years but I can see where this is going. I think I am a Ti kind of guy. I got my twin 980Ti's on SLI right now and they are very good for what I am doing. I will skip the 1080 cycle and get the 1080 Ti next year or so.
  8. I have to say, based on what I saw so far, that I agree. Unbelievable that the people at Oculus did not see this coming. The perfect is the enemy of the good. They could have done it quicker, they could have captured the market. They had captivated everybody with the promise. They they let it slip just like that. If I was an investor I would be so very pissed right now. The kind of PR the Vive is getting cannot simply be undone. They missed the boat on that one and I don't know if they will ever be able to catch up with it.
  9. It's like someone showed up after 3 years of built-up anticipation and stole Oculus Rift's cake. From right under their noses. Everybody is talking about the Vive. Heck; my wife asked me how much it was after I showed her a demo video. That's is as much permission to burn 900 bucks as I'm ever likely to get! :-) It seems as though Oculus will release a motion controller later this year. Prices will probably be comparable. The videos I saw seem to show the Vive games to be simpler, more sandbox like than the Oculus. The Vive's games are not as deep but physical interaction is superb. 2 months ago I didn't even think I was going to get one of these for at least a couple of years. Today I was eye measuring my computer room. The logical thing to do is to get Iteration 2 of either device, whichever is successful. What do you folks think?
  10. Sorry, this is Crysis 3 we are talking about.
  11. Ok, I can run Crysis. But not with all the dials turned up to max. I can pretty much turn everything up to max at 3440 X 1440 and get about 90 fps, except anti-aliasing. Setting AA to max drops me to about 40 FPS (did I mention this is 2 overclocked 980 Ti's in SLI? ). So I tried AA on to Max and completely OFF through many different parts of the game, with my face righ up against walls and looking at long distances (as long as this game allows) and I cannot for the life of me tell the difference between AA ON and AA OFF. Most other games I own give me similar results. So here is the question: Should I bother using any AA at all? It seems to just slow things down to me. In other games I keep it on at a lower level but it bothers me (I am sure I will find sympathy from someone out there) that I can't just "balls to the walz" any game in existence today with my set up. Nevermind a game from 3 years ago... With enough compute capacity to match the entire planet's computational capacity in 1986, I figure I should be getting more out of this hardware. AND... the game crashes when the Ti's are overclocked. Even when no other game or benchmark utility does. But that's a different story altogether...
  12. I am considering a new chair for my office/gaming computer as the Walmart office chair I bought a year ago is pretty terrible. I was looking at the Maxnomic lineup but it was no help. They have a gaming chair and a office/gaming chair. Lets hypothesize that I want just about the most comfortable chair they might have; which one should one choose? Anyone has these and can chime in with experienced user advice? I wish there was a place with those in stock but nobody does...
  13. IMO, there could be a few reasons why this could be happening. 1 - First, are all the game graphical settings the same? Are you sure AA X8 or whatever isn't enabled by mistake? In other words; can you fiddle with the game settings to see if you can get similar results as before? 2 - Also, when you overclock I assume you are using either your graphics card or MSI Afterburner. Did you take a look at the charts? How is your GFX cards numbers? Clock speed, temps, all that. Is everything stable? 3 - Drivers. Did you install new drivers recently? Any environmental aspect on the PC that could be causing this at all?
