  1. Wondering if I need to upgrade mobo which uses PCIE gen 3. With the 3000 series using PCIE 4, will the reduced bandwidth of gen 3 cause any performance hits?
  2. Oh okay, so just re-install windows, and once it asks me to activate Windows, I will use the windows key that I pulled off of my SSD using Produkey?
  3. I don't care about the files, no. However, I do wish to continue using that Windows 10, since I paid for the license (I upgraded that laptop from a HDD to a SSD, and buying a new copy of windows 10).
  4. Hello, So I had a spare SSD lying around from an old laptop that doesn't work anymore. It had windows 10 on it, and so I would like to move over that SSD to another computer (that's used). I tried simply plugging it in and hoping it would work, but the computer didn't boot or even post. I'm assuming the OS on the SSD is not recognizing the new hardware. What should I do in order to get the SSD to become compatible with the new computer? Thanks!
  5. I already have a spare 850 evo lying around, even though the mobo only supports SATA II, it should be fine. I have a spare stock intel CPU cooler too, which will be miles better than the shitty cpu cooler currently in there. The CPU is only 95W so it should be enough, but if not, i'll just a cooler master hyper 212 evo.
  6. True. I will see what my work is handing out. I just take what is given, so hopefully I might be able to get one. I'm only doing this cause I'm getting the PCs for free, so if I can do some decent upgrades for cheap and get a gaming PC out of it, then it's all worth it.
  7. How badly will the CPU bottleneck? On paper it's a decent CPU. 4 cores, 8 threads, 3.6 Ghz boost.
  8. I might be able to get one from my work, not sure though.
  9. It is a custom PSU Damn, well I guess if I do get the 1050Ti then it doesn't matter. The CPU uses 95 W, so 95 + 75 = 170. The max wattage for the PSU is 240W.. so hmm.. would that be enough? (Cause it's probably not that efficient). Oh and great to know about the gen 2 PCIE bandwidth
  10. Hello, I have received an old PC from my work, the HP Compaq Elite 8100. It has a i7 - 870 in it, making me believe I can upgrade it into a decent gaming PC. It has a ms 7557 motherboard, with a gen 2 16x PCIE slot. I'm thinking of putting a 1060 or a 1050Ti in there, so my first question is will a gen 2 slot have enough bandwidth to run this card at full speed? I will upgrade the RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb easily. As for the PSU, it's only 240 W, and I would need to upgrade it anyways to support the GPU. I only have PC knowledge of newer PC parts, so I'm not sure how buying a modern PSU will work on this outdated motherboard. It looks like it uses a 6-pin for motherboard power, a 4-pin for CPU power, and that's about it. Will this be compatible with modern PSUs? Cause they use 24 pin for the motherboard power and 8 pin for CPU. Thanks in advance!
  11. Hello, I'm just wondering what are some good options for someone who wants a T amp for passive speakers and a Headphone out all in one enclosure? This is the only one I'm aware of: https://www.amazon.ca/Topping-Tripath-Class-T-Stereo-Amplifier/dp/B00FGOT18C/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1485213090&sr=8-5&keywords=topping Thanks!
  12. Would using something like this (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01BURJVOC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ABLOYB9H8YPEZ&psc=1) work? It can switch between headphone and speakers. I'm assuming this would connect to PC through USB, then 3.5mm to RCA into the AMP of the speakers?
  13. Thanks for letting me know it's a bad idea! I'm not dead set on my plan, it was just an idea I came up with to fix a problem I've been having. All I want to do is have both my headphones and speakers plugged in at the same time, but I would have analog control over both of them, so that I can chose between the speakers or the headphones to listen to, without having to disconnect anything. What would you suggest doing? I would like to get those speakers, and therefore would need an amp for it, but I would also like to have the analog volume control for both speakers and headphones.
  14. I'm new to audio so i'm learning. Please help me out. I looking for some new speakers, and these caught my eye: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16886200006 However, I found out that it's not as simple as plugging in and playing like most speakers. These must be powered with a separate amp. I understand how everything will be hooked up in regards to these speakers, the amp and my PC. However, I was also planning on getting this: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00X4SSVAG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2HOYD7OMXREOA&psc=1. I'm not sure if that's the right product I need, so that's why i'm asking you guys. Basically what I was thinking was using this to control my headphones and my speakers. At my PC i use both headphones and speakers all the the time, and so, going to the back of the PC and removing the jack and replacing it with either Headphones or speakers is too much work, so I found this. Is it possible to use this with my headphones, speakers and PC? The way I was thinking it would work would be: PC connects to the 4 way channel amp through RCA. I connect my headphones into port 1 of the amp with the 1/4" jack. Now, for the speakers, they would also connect to the amp with a 1/4" jack in the second port into the input of a standalone amp for the speakers (Something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Lepy-LP-2020A-Class-T-Amplifier-Supply/dp/B00V9AYMZ4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1481105107&sr=1-1&keywords=amp). That way I can control the volume of headphones and speakers all in one spot. So yeah, let me know if this works, or if this is just stupid, cause really I don't know, i'm just figuring out stuff as I go. Thanks!
