I dont think you can run those games with great stability. Im not sure about far cry 3 but in far cry 4 dual core processors cannot run the game. They are barred from doing so

if you are upgrading before the end of the year..then it doesn't really matter what you buy now...long as its compatible with the parts you buy later

Used CPU's are pretty safe because they rarely ever have problems, just make sure the CPU hasn't been overclocked before.

I'd say that you're probably fine. Cpus need to go through quite a bit before they go bad.

i know that feel, i'm pushing AM3+ limits with my fx9590. it isn't bottlenecking except on multithread-optimized applications. when ddr4 gets cheap i'm going to swap to intel since AMD isn't making CPUs anymore and only seems interested in APUs

That's not what the term means. Just becuase it doesn't look nice doesn't mean it is no longer categorised in a category that IT'S ALWAYS BEEN IN.

So I work in the phone industry and our reps always use the phrase Quad HD and I constantly have to correct them.  You cannot consider 720p as HD anymore, so Quad HD is 3840x2160 not 2560x1440...
