1000€ new PC Gaming Build (±1124 US$)
Mr crabcake replied to RCPT's topic in New Builds and Planning
With that budget I'd atleast get an locked i5-4460 + H87/B85/H97... combo. You should be able to get a 4690k with that budget if you want to oveclock. -

R9 280 GTA5 Performance Issue, not full load
Mr crabcake replied to deatex's topic in Graphics Cards
Well if the game can't utilize all of the cores properly, naturally they won't be fully loaded. -
R9 280 GTA5 Performance Issue, not full load
Mr crabcake replied to deatex's topic in Graphics Cards
Well yes I could make it GPU-bound(getting a gpu with more VRAM but equal performance otherwise) but as I want to run the game @ 60fps I'm always held back by the CPU as all of my current FPS drops are caused by lacking CPU-power. -

Pretty CPU-heavy game. I'm not able to load up my CF 7870 + 7850 properly with a 4690k @ 4.5Ghz without hitting the VRAM limits .. -
Need to upgrade my XPS 8300 GPU and possibly PSU
Mr crabcake replied to the_kys's topic in Graphics Cards
Just throw in the best GPU that you have the appropriate power connectors for and go with that. No need to be paranoid. -
APU Mini-ITX Emulation Build ~£200 budget
Mr crabcake replied to SIGSEGV's topic in New Builds and Planning
I'd go as far as saying one that doesn't exist as emulators tend to effectively use one core as far as I remember. Here's a 7850k struggling ( Specs in description): -

For a emulation rig I'd definitely go with the G3258 if your going to play PS2 games etc. For example my old Phenom II 720be couldn't handle God of war properly. -
Overclocking Intel Core i5 4690k
Mr crabcake replied to rmac8530's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
The diffrence is very marginal nowadays. -
Overclocking Intel Core i5 4690k
Mr crabcake replied to rmac8530's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Depends on what games you play. I don't really see a reason not to overclock as you've already got a K part. Just get a decent aircooler and overclock it. -

Serious Issues with the ASRock FM2A55 Pro+
Mr crabcake replied to Iqfish's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Is the build brand new or did the issues arise some time after building it? Just wondering if it could be a software issue.. -

What are the temps like while stress testing? -
Yeah it happens when your total VRAM exceeds 2GB. I got the problem when adding a second card for crossfireX. This is what I use: -nomemrestrict -norestriction -availablevidmem 2.0 In steam right click on game --> properties --> General --> set launch options

A bit offtopic.. I remember my dad buying MystV for our PC at the time but It couldn't even launch the game.. I guess the hardware was ancient Damn I've got to see if I'd play it for the frist time now

Upgrade my PC or buy other things I want/need?
Mr crabcake replied to Tro's topic in New Builds and Planning
As you've already got a decent air-cooler I'd go for the 4690k. Atleast if you're going to play games like arma that will bring your PC to its knees regardless of what CPU its packing -
I've got a RaspberryPi model B paired with a random 160GB drive (using an old externalHDD enclosure) as a torrent/download-box that I use to stream content to my main-PC and to my new RPi 2 with XBMC hooked up to my TV. It's really handy as I can add torrents via my torrent client on my PC and there's even options to do it through a WebGUI. If I remember right there should be a app for android devices also. I've been planning to do a FreeNAS build at some point but I haven't got spare Hardware laying around anymore as I've already repurposed it elsewhere... A Raspberry Pi is quite amazing when setup right and there's tons of guides etc out there. If you've got ethernet wiring with a gigabit switch I'd probably get something with gigabit ethernet but as I'm using powerline connectivity I'm not exactly hitting 100Mbit/s consistently.

As already mentioned the SSD is shitty. I bought a 240GB version for my laptop and I regret it to this day. My 30€ 64GB USB3 stick has better Sequential reads...

That's the impression I've gotten based on videos I've seen and what I've heard.

I hope that it isn't too arcadey..
