Oh not bad at all. Looking around for used hardware is pretty fun, I've been poking around for specifically older hardware for my WinXP system. Sadly no PCIe x16 Gen 1 cards, but I do have a friend that can give me their old GT 620 and some spare memory for free so that's fun.

Thanks for the input, but no Hackintosh will be discussed on this thread.
Thanks. I have a pretty good idea of what is considered good hardware.

I'm seeing mainly Duo Cores within the price range I set. (Not too big of a surprise.) Also 4gb of ram... with small hard drives.

Probably gonna need at least 250gb of space. 120gb might be pushing it, guess I could use some flash drives I have lying around for storage.

Gonna be using it to edit, record, and share some music in Garage Band.

Nothing too serious for the time being, just feel like having some fun with it.

( Garage Band is the must use program, because a friend of mine and I are going to share songs with each other and play with them for fun, so just trying to get compatible stuff. While suggestions are fine, I will not be using this thread to try and find out other ways to achieve what we are trying to do. )

Here's something I found, bit over budget, and looks like a store so I probably can't talk them down...

I agree, that's cheaper than buying a new Motherboard and Case.

I was even thinking about giving up the overclock ability of my CPU just to go smaller. Getting a H97 board, but like I said, checking my options before going any other way.

vSyNd1c4t3 reacted to JoeCoke in How should I price this for Craigslist Sale?
I'd go for 400$, maybe even a little more. Trick is, start higher than you expect to sell it for, so you can let the seller "haggle" you down and they think they're cutting a big hog in the ass.

See what stuff is going for in your area. You can ask 400, but most people probably won't need the keyboard or the monitor.

No. The 1080 can barely do it.
Btw if you get a 144Hz monitor you should be getting 144fps.
    60fps is useless on a 144Hz monitor.

But my friend was impulse buying and he was looking for a local store to buy something from. His first computer.

I didn't have time to explain before, because ... well we already bought one.

We went with the Second Choice.

    ---------------

At first he bought an iBuyPower machine for $929+tax
    i5-6402p - 2.8ghz base w/3.4ghz turbo
    8GB Ram
    1TB HDD + 120GB SSD
    GTX 960 4GB

He also bought some Dell monitor with it for $179+tax
    23"
    1920 x 1080p
    6ms Response Time
    60hz

When he told me, I told him to immediately return it, and that I found something better for the same price...

So we went with option 2 there, and we also got him an Asus VP247H-P 24" monitor for $125+tax
    23.6"
    1920 x 1080
    1ms Response time
    60hz

    ---------------------

Overall, I just wanted to help with a slightly educated impulse buy.

Obviously there's better stuff out there, but I hope everything serves him well now.

And here is an alternate option, it requires less power and has a smaller gpu, so it might be easier for cable management. It's going to be less powerful than the 380 (not by much), but it will still get the job done.
