Pascal has come out zen is coming soon and i'm going to college so It's time to start planning my next build (which i hope will be powered by zen). The build i'm posting now is my back up build in case A) ZEN is an under performer or B) they don't have mini-ITX boards for ZEN. the cpu in the list is a price stand in for it's Kaby lake equivalent I'm also getting the black version of the case and painting it white because it's cheaper than buying the white version and am looking into painting the IO shroud and the ram heat-spreaders white. I intentionally left out cpu cooling and storage because i'm still looking in to what cooler to use (and if i want liquid cooling or air cooling) and I'm going to decide the storage config directly before i build the system. sorry if this post is not totally cohesive i've been writing in small portions due to air travel. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/wtcD8K

yeah it's a motherboard problem. you should either A) replace your or get you motherboard repaired or B) get a new gpu doesn't have to be an expensive one.

it's a problem with your motherboard. if it's still under warranty you should probably return your motherboard.

it definitely can run a 1440p monitor. It's either a problem with the motherboard or iGPU probably the motherboard.

intel recently increaced socket life by a year. but no i agree probably way longer than Intel.

We know that the AM4 will not be compatible compatible with old AM3+ CPU's (Possibly because it'll be a LGA socket?) and that AMD has a habit of making new chips on new sockets that work with the older socket. So if some one bought an M4 motherboard when the first come out how long do you think they would be able install the latest AMD CPU's (with BIOS Updates)? Do you think it'll be longer than the new lifespan of Intel sockets due to their new "process-architecture-optimization" model? (~3 1/2 years)

because socket 1151 motherboards use DDR4 that means Cannonlake will use DDR4.

Yes it will use the 1151 socket and though extension DDR4.

I'm actually waiting for zen before i make my next desktop. If it's any good I'll probably get it. if not i'll get a kaby lake.

Going to play devil's advocate here. maybe there was manufacture defect in the batch that shipped and that's what causing the problem. AMD would still be at fault for not testing the batch though.

I agree with the upgrade potential but some people don't always have the ability to upgrade and hyper threaded dual core may not run a game that requires a quad core. First off your home network has (im not to sure about this someone with more knowledge correct me if i'm wrong) has a variable ip address meaning you would have to give you firends a new ip every time it changes also when ever you sign up for internet there is typically a clause in the contract that basically says don't host a web server off your connection.

hyperthreaded quad core can actually have negative gaming performance so i gave the alternative. personally though i would go with your build due to a better upgrade path.
