Wired reports that Amazon, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla, Netflix, and Cisco have teamed up to create a new video format in order to replace Adobe Flash. It is designed to work on low powered devices at an amazing quality. It will also support copy protection. The format will be released under the Apache 2.0 License which means it's open source and royalty free. It does not have a name yet.

Mapsle reacted to KWelz in So Why Is Apple "The best" in some peoples eyes?
Apple is successful and "he best" to many people, simply because they do not operate like a computer company.   Steve Jobs figured out something a long time ago that other computer companies are still trying to figure out.

Computers will eventually be treated like Cars and televisions.   Meaning that it isn't normally just the specs that matter.  It is the entire package.

When you buy a car do you just get the one with the most horse power?   No.  You look for a set of features in a package that looks good within your budget.  It is a balancing act.   Same for a TV.  Do you just go for the largest screen?  Or do you also look at connections, screen quality, etc.

So Apple took the same philosophy.   They looked at what people needed, not what they were asking for.  (The two are seldom the same)  They then started making that.  Does the iphone have the largest screen, or the fastest processor or the most ram?   Nope.   But it does have good specs in a good package and provides an experience that people enjoy.

I don't agree with everything apple does.  I feel they need to bring back a pre 2013 style mac pro.  But we are not the mainstream consumer.   Enthusiast and gamers are far to small of a market segment for them to bother with.

Could make a good LTT video for a rain proof comparison and possibly a CSF video with his reactions.

There are a couple of reasons i was very disappointed with the X1. My friend has one, and within the first week of owning it the screen cracked down the middle, just from carrying it in his bag. And this was literally the first time he ever broke a computer. He has always been very careful. The screen flexes more than i like it to, and the overall built quality just doesn't seem like a ThinkPad to me. Its all made from plastic (with some Carbon stiffening on the inside). Lenovo claims it's the most robust ThinkPad they ever made, but that's really not the feeling i took away from using it.

I also had some trouble adjusting to the trackpad clickyness. The TrackPad is responsive and feels great, until you press it. It feels mushy and the travel distance is too long for my taste.

Although those multi-function buttons along the top may seem awesome, they are really terrible in every day use. I find myself spending way to much time cycling between the three modes. This feature has however been removed in the newest version.

I get that much of this is personal preference, but i could never really fall in love with this notebook. If you go for the HiDPI display, the price is on par with the XPS 13, and the XPS 13 is a far better notebook in my opinion - only let down by its mediocre keyboard.

Hey Linus and group! Long-time viewer, first time poster. I've made several posts on your YouTube videos related to your network about possible solutions to your problems and other general tips for good network function; however they seem to have been missed. I would be more than happy to discuss the issues you are having in detail and to help you find a solution. If you are wondering about my knowledge of the topics at hand I am currently a CCNA and am currently achieving my CCNP.

Love what you guys do and more importantly I love networking, so anything I can do to ensure you guys have the best access to your material so you can keep pumping out videos is a massive bonus for me! Let me now if you want to chat, if not, best of luck with the servers and the network. Keep the videos coming and if you feel like appealing to other networking geeks like myself make a dedicated video about your network, the topology (including the technologies you are using), and the addressing.

Edit: PS. If you use any 192.168.X.X addressing you lose all the Nerd Points.

Scaling is always annoying during design, especially on a computer screen, maybe microsoft hololense will live upto the hype    I had a virtual wall drawn in solidworks, used keyshot to render it with various headphones to see what it was like, looked ok but out of paranoia made a cardboard model just to make sure    I'm working on designs for my portfolio so I kept track of how I went about this project,  used hackaday.io to log everything  https://hackaday.io/project/6174-wall-mounted-headphone-stand

I had the same decision to make recently and went for the HD 518 - I was so impressed by them that I sold them to a coworker after he listened to them and was wowed too, and then proceeded to buy the 598s. They are great! The only downside for you will be, that you are used to more bass from the beats.

Comfort wise: Velour ear pads, low clamping force, ... -> no sweating and you can wear them for hours without noticing them.

    500th post! Yay!

Before I begin, as my other reviews states, I want to inform the iOS vs Android vs Windows thing, is not allowed here. I have chosen the iPhone and is what I will review here. Suggestions for reviews can be PM’ed to me.

With that out of the way, Let’s review on what I would call, “The iPad Mini Replacement”

    phab·let
    ˈfablət/
    noun trademark
    noun: phablet; plural noun: phablets
1 a smartphone having a screen which is intermediate in size between that of a typical smartphone and a tablet computer."a 3.5 inch screen is inadequate in a market that is trending towards phablets"

The iPhone 6+ is a device that was kinda forced to be released from apple. My thoughts were that Android devices were pushing that “Big device life” and “Stupidly high pixel density”, that apple had to put out a device that would make both of those arguments valid to apple users. So, with the release of the iPhone 6+ 8 months ago, lets see if apple did it for those specific users.

    [intro]

As always, we start with the initial unboxing impressions. The iPhone was beautifully packaged with perfect smells and simple packaging. Rock on apple. You are really the only true company to ever do this. Awesome.

The charging thing. Right. In my honest opinion, apple could have included a 10W USB charger, like they include on the iPad’s. The phone is really zippy when it charges with that 10W. Would've liked to see that. Apple still hasn't fixed that stupid cable problem, and I don't think they ever will. Sad, so sad.

When I first picked it up, I always thought it was going to fall out of my hands. Some causes of this would be that its a LOT heavier than the iPhone 5, and its significantly wider and taller, so I couldn't get a grip with it. The finish on the back of the device was insanely smooth, and that Apple logo felt really nice to the touch, but lets move on.

That screen, Is an engineering marvel. Its a 1080p IPS display with 401PPI. I couldn't believe what I was looking at when I first saw it. Blacks are deep and literally looks like an OLED screen, and the viewing angles. MAN those viewing angles. The screen literally looks like its laminated on the screen. There was NO space in-between the glass and the screen itself. If anyone would like to tell me how the hell they did that, please. I would love to know.

As we are on topic I guess this is a good time to talk about the glass. This is about the worst thing I could come up with about the entire phone. the glass for all you spec nerds is what apple calls “Ion-x glass”. Essentially its just gorilla glass 4. And to my disappointment, its worse than the iPhone 5 screen. I got scratches all over that screen since day one. Its about the worst glass I’ve ever used on a device, but Having sapphire on a surface area that big would be impossible, so I understand why they did it.
Let’s move on to the physical overview on the left we find a toggle switch for mute and volume control. On the right we find a power button and a sim tray. On the top we find… Nothing.. And on the bottom, we find headphone, microphone, power and a speaker. I’ll never see apple put a front firing speaker anywhere at anytime, so forget about the speaker. It sounds like a side firing speaker, and thats all you need to know.

The cameras are another thing that I would like to see changed. the front facing camera is as bad as my Mac’s camera, and anything like it. Meaning it looks horrible. The rear facing camera is really nice, although I would've liked to see more pixels in the thing. What makes it nice is the focus, ISO, and color you get out of it. Its as if apple is trying to veer away from pixels and pay more attention to those things. You don't need a lot of pixels in a camera and if you did, they would have done it a long time ago.

Battery life should last around 10 hours, but for my use I found that I lasted around 8 hours which is way better than any phone I have ever owned.

So far, all this stuff you could have figured out from reading a spec sheet. A lot of people don't like the sheer size of the 6+. So What is thing like to actually use? I have been using this iPhone for about 7 months now. And would like to share my experiences with this device.

Lets start with going on the plane. This thing is not an iPad at all, but with a full 1080p display at a 16:9 aspect ratio, this thing is perfect for any flights or business trips that require a movie or some music to keep you sane for that long. it has a 6-12 hour battery that can keep that display chugging along. Absolutely brilliant. Download your favorite movies, and head onto the open road (or air in this case)

Apple pay was more of something that I have tried once or twice. I guess the issue is no merchants that are really big near us really has it, and ill put it at this: Apple pay is so damn simple to use, that it feels like you aren't spending any real money. So if more merchants support it, there revenue should really go high.

In school taking notes was more user friendly than my iPhone 5. Because of that big screen, I was able to load up excel and view spreadsheets, or work on a word document, without having to carry an iPad around. Really nice for those students/editors out there.

For those idiots out there no, my phone has not bent yet. I haven't put a case on it and never will.

The popping out camera thing is actually a huge problem for me. The ring around helens is being scratched to hell, and lost its color over time. not a huge problem but very VERY annoying.

As far as anything else, thats about all I could come up with. iPhones typically have those features that no one cares about, and the features that everyone cares about. I have no problem with any of the screen size issues, and I’ve never dropped this thing once. I really love iPhones for their simplicity and ease of use. I guess this device is more for the people who travel a lot, or who want to have the “Best of the best” iPhone. Thank you for reading this far, some people do the usual TL;DR but some people actually read this far. Thank you if you are one of those people.

My review on my macbook air is here and the apple watch review is coming soon!

Might I suggest a good quality pair of headphones, (something like a pair of Audio technica's, or sennheissers), and a antlion modmic. Far better sound quality than the premium you'll get charged for a "gaming headset" and you'll have a product that'll last you a few years instead of cheap plastic.

Going wireless will get expensive if you're shopping for quality, as the only ones I'd feel comfortable recommending start at about 300AUD+.

I really wish I was making this up. Basically - Destiny fans - do you want the complete package that should have been with your game anyway? Well drink some Red Bull, because that's the only way you're going to get an exclusive quest. Better yet, this exclusive quest that you can only get from buying a Red Bull is for the new The Taken king expansion, which already cost $80 to begin with.

Bungie, come on. You're better than this. You sold your soul to one of the gaming devils. Fine, you did what you did. Then you delivered a, quite frankly, extremely crappy and lackluster game. Now you're throwing all of this expensive DLC onto your consumers. It's ridiculous. Bungie use to be my favorite game developer, until Destiny. So many mistakes, too little fixes, and even with the few there, the game is still lackluster.

But anyways, moving onto this whole Red Bull thing... Quite frankly it's BS. I've never liked the idea of buying products to earn extra EXP in games (looking at your Call of Duty and Halo 4), and I especially don't like it when exclusive missions are given to these 3rd parties. Activision/Bungie is already shoving $80 down Destiny player's throats if they want the latest DLC, and to even get this exclusive mission you have to get the DLC. How ridiculous. I can't believe this is happening.

Anyways, the BS website with all of the details can be found here: http://quest.redbull.com/us/en
