aeroencychris got a reaction from JabroniBaloney in Any decent cheap earbuds out there?

I've gone through several pairs of these with no issues (only because I've lost them). They also have a mic version as well for a bit more. Great if you like IEMs, probably not ideal if you're using to something like EarPods.

Dell XPS are beautiful laptops that will last years.
If you don't want to spend much, get a machine with an i3/i5 and then buy an SSD and it will be great for your use.

Just looked up the PC: http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1655492.pdf
There's a card reader in the front. It's detected by Windows as a disk drive.

I used to be fairly active (checking recent posts 2-3 times a day) about a year ago but now I hardly ever come on. Things don't seem nearly as active anymore.

At your budget you might as well space out 3 4000 dollar builds over the course of 3 generations. That way, you can have high end hardware for 3 generations in a row

Anything like VmWare or VirtualBox no. The only thing that would work correctly is unRAID. Which requires it's own drives. Graphics cards. Etc.

Try using a different keyboard to see if it's an OS issue, but I suspect it's something changed on the keyboard itself.

aeroencychris got a reaction from Zando_ in 240hz monitor + Core i5-7400 + GTX 1050 Ti = waste of money?
What were you planning on running with it? The obvious concern would be making sure your games/other media can reach 240fps. In something like CSGO or maybe Overwatch at lower settings it could be possible but I wouldn't expect a ton with anything else.
Coming from someone who has a 144hz monitor, I would say it's likely plenty unless you're super interested in competitive shooters, in which case you should just be spending more on your GPU in the first place.

aeroencychris got a reaction from NelizMastr in No POST with M.2 installed
@germgoatz@NelizMastrI just changed the boot mode from Legacy+UEFI to just UEFI and it works fine. That makes no sense to me but at this point I'm just happy it works.

I see no reason to question Corsair's quality. I've used a K70 red LED with MX Browns and it was fine.

aeroencychris reacted to factorialandha in Cheap way to get a static public ip
go to the site and take a look, theres a little downloadable tool which runs in the background and periodically checks what your public ip address is, and updates noip with the new value when it changes. so yourchoice.noip.com (or whatever address you end up with) always is up to date with your most recent dynamic ip.

aeroencychris got a reaction from Trendsin in Premium Built Quality Ultrabook For Everyday Use
Go for it
I can tell you from my 24 hours of experience with the HP Spectre x360 13t (w/ i7 8500u) that's it's overall really nice. It was running a bit too hot for my liking and hitting 95c under synthetic load, but after undervolting and repasting it's at a cool 70c.
I'm not sure how the 15-inch model will be but repasting on the 13-inch was a pain; I had to entirely remove the motherboard (which required about a dozen ribbon cable disconnections) to reach the heatsink which was a bit too much stress than I would have liked. In the end it was certainly worth it but do this at your own risk.

Agreed, CXM line (grey units, not the older green ones) have been great for me in a variety of builds.
Edit: CXM 650W is on sale, was around $33 for me when I applied the coupon in cart with MIR

aeroencychris got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in What is a launchpad used for?
Not entirely sure what you mean by programming it manually. In the case of lightshow videos and all, yes, you have to slice the song yourself and map each sample to a button which is a pain in the ass. However, if you're just using it as a piano for example, you can just drag the instrument and set its button range and you're good to go. It's been really convenient for me during production for just dragging instruments on and playing right away.

you are using the same randpos vector for each iteration of the while loop. put it into the loop or assign it a new value after you instantiate

Agreed, although I have had mixed experiences with powerline. I recently recommended it to a friend and his seems to work great but in my apartment it only worked in certain outlets, so your mileage may vary.

Almost $500 for a 1060 lol
Please don't do that to yourself. Wait for a good deal or the GTX 2080 which will (hopefully) stabilize prices.
