Oh interesting, hadn't really thought about the motherboards much. I'd consider bumping up to microATX if that could make a significant difference. Is the main concern VRM thermals? Would something like the Gigabyte A620I AX not be great quality? If I were to go Intel, are there any CPU recommendations you'd have?

Overwatch and TF2 are my main games, though I definitely try to push them to their limits with my 240hz monitor. Currently getting ~100-150 FPS in either game which is okay but not ideal. The CPU has no problem sustaining 3.6 GHz under load but it still isn't quite enough in terms of performance. The stock cooler has been surprisingly competent (hasn't even hit 70c under load) I'm assuming my CPU is the limiting factor here so I'm trying to gauge different options. I've been a bit absent from the PC building community so I'm not entirely sure what would be the best upgrade here. I'm assuming I'll likely get something away from the B250 chipset so I'll need a new mobo as well. I'll also likely need an actual cooler (eyeing the NH-L9i). Any recommendations?

They're looking to push to 144hz as well as some more demanding games down the line so I've tried to account for that with the CPU + GPU combo. Agreed, I had an XPS 13 and absolutely loved it. Currently on an HP Spectre x360 and it's not even close, build quality is much worse.

Hi all, It's been a while since I've looked into the custom PC market as I went full external GPU (AORUS Gaming Box with a 1070) for my setup. I used to move back and forth between setups frequently so having multiple builds was a hassle - being able to bring an eGPU and laptop on flights is much simpler. However, I've been noticing a lot of thermal issues with my particular laptop and I'm finding I'm not moving as much as I had expected, so a full desktop is a possibility again. However, I'd still like to keep it SFF so transportation is possible. I use a 1080p 144hz monitor primarily (sometimes even a 240hz but that's not as much of a priority) so I would like to reach 144fps in the games I play, mainly Overwatch at low settings. Believe it or not, I can hardly reach that on my current setup due to thermal/power limit throttling. I really really like the form factor of the DAN Case A4-SFX v4. I'm open to any reasons not to get it, but size really is the top priority here. Even something like a Node 202 (which I've worked with tons of times and loved) is likely too big. Beyond that, I'd like to have at least 16GB of RAM, an SSD (128-256GB) and ideally some sort of mass storage - the A4-SFX only has 3 2.5" drive mounts but I have a 1TB USB drive I can shuck the HDD from. In terms of CPUs and GPUs, I'm a bit out of my element since my last build was on Haswell and a GTX 970 - haven't messed with any AMD stuff in the past but if that's the best option now I'm open to it. I don't really have any relative sense of price on the market at this point, but around $800 would be ideal. I'm open to going over if necessary (I know the A4-SFX is pretty pricy). I've used /r/microsofthardwareswap plenty of times without any issues for both Windows and Office keys.

That was my initial thought which is supported by these vague errors in Event Viewer but it doesn't really explain why it only happens with certain tasks. Maybe I'll give Fractal a call and see what they can do.

Hi all, I recently did a build (specs) for a client but noticed that although the Windows install went fine, the computer would frequently go black as if losing power and reboot when doing certain tasks. I noticed this today when trying to download some programs but it's also happened when just using a web browser. However, it seems to idle on the desktop with no problems and has even sustained a 24 hour AIDA64 stability test (stressed CPU, SSD and memory). My initial thought was that the SSD was at fault since the problem seemed to go away when using a spare HDD with a clean Windows install, but even after getting a replacement from Samsung the issue is persisting. I also recall there being an incompatibility with the motherboard and SSD at first but a BIOS update seemed to fix that; perhaps there's still issues with those two parts? The build is running a completely fresh install of Windows 10 Home Version 1803. Any thoughts?

US, not entirely sure what's considered good in hours but I settled on the HP Omen 15 2018 which has a 70 Whr battery. If you have any thoughts on the choice I'm all ears but I chose it mostly because of the 4K panel and storage config.
