I would not make that upgrade for performnance, aesthetics though is reasonable.  I've been thinking about upgrading my mx to an evo top (pretty sure you can just change the top, just so I can see my Aurora in one more spot.  The stuff looks great in cpu blocks because of their high turbulance

0ld_Chicken got a reaction from Jason 57 in Test Airflow without a smoke machine
I know right?  and I've got one of the exhausts on a LNA since it draws power from the same circuit as a few of the intakes.  I measured the pressure using small thin plastic flaps over passive vents in 3 spots and also smoke to confirm my suspicions.  I could probably replace 3 of the intakes with models that have better airflow under pressure but i've got 3 intakes with 1.73mm/h20 and 102.6m3/hr (cougars)  and 2 with 1.46mm/h20 and 97.25m3/hr (corsair sp120).  3 exhausts (NF S12A FLX) (one on LNA) 107,5 m³/h full speed, 83.2m3/h LNA

These are all manufactures specs so I do take the numbers with a grain of salt.  I was surprised though that with any configuration of fans (ive tried about all of them I think) I just cant seems to stay positive with the exhausts on 100%.  I do have no problem keeping everything cool but I like to play with the configuration

    0ld_Chicken got a reaction from Ben17 in DDR4 CL14 VS CL15 VS 16??
Ram speed does matter, it's been discussed many many times and while the gains might be "insignificant"  there is more to performance than just FPS.  Frametimes are improved as well which make a huge difference for smooth performance and immersion.  If you're getting good fps but your frametime is all over the place then it's a mess and hard to look at.  I'm not saying that 2400 cl16 is going to be bad, but 3000 cl14 will be better, no questions asked....  Is it worth the money?  that depends on the price of each kit

0ld_Chicken got a reaction from Euphoria in Does PETG tubing cloud/plasticize more or less than soft tubing???
I cannot tell a difference between my used and new Petg pieces, though they were only used for 6 months or so with x-1 and Aurora 2 (different loops)

It's only Ethylene glycol based coolants that are considered bad for Petg.  Most coolant company's deny this though and say that it's fine or that they've never heard of anyone having any issues with eg and Petg. Mayhem's said they'd look into doing independent testing when I wrote them to have them label Pastel Extreme as EG in online shops.

@Ryoku do you know what red coolant it was that you used?  Just curious

0ld_Chicken got a reaction from Nup in Need help with speedfan
the SUM of speeds will add up all the values from the different sensors for allocated to that fan.  so if you have all 4 core temps operating a fan and it is set to SUM of speeds.  it will add all of the speeds together and run the fan at the total of all the %.   MAX will simply choose the temperature that is calling for the highest % for that fan.  so if core 2 is hottest that will be the temp that controls the fan until a different temperature is hottest.

I would redo it if it were me,  you really don't know how much is being held behind that compression fitting until you take it apart.  Every time I've seen that the one side was all the way over the barb and just under the compression collar.  Too risky imo

What a game... It has pretty bad start and texture quality is sometimes not really there, but aside from that... I have never seen anything like this in years of spending half of my time on playing games. How this game looks and what it does at some moments is just... And those cutscenes... Just play it yourself, without reading doubtful reviews and poisonous "opinions" from people that are spending their lives trying to impose their lack to taste and soul on others. Games, especially of this kind, are an art, all that matters is how they apply to you, and only you, whatever someone else may think is completely irrelevant.

The game has Photo Mode so making screenshots was almost a dream, just the movement in this mode has a bit too many limitations.

0ld_Chicken got a reaction from Elerek in Water cooling distribution block
like TheRandomness said, the water is flowing fast enough in a properly planned loop to pretty much even out the temperatures.  I thought there had to be some increase though when I set up my loop so I put in some in-line temp sensors with my aquaero to check it out.  My loop runs through all heat producing components and then through all the radiators.

I've got an exterior radiator setup and 2 water temp sensors, one going in to the pc and one coming out.  Most I've ever seen is a 3°c increase and that was when I had my 2xD5 Varios on 1 with a full load on everything.  With the pumps on 3 its more like 1.5°c.  Pumps on 5 its about .5°c.  Only reason I'm running 2 pumps is because I've got 3ft of vertical rise and an abnormally large loop.  I'd think the normal 1 d5/ddc loop in a case would be about the same.
    specs:
    4790k @ 5.0Ghz 1.43v
    2xSLI GTX 980 @ 1500 core 8000 memory 1.275v (plumbed in parallel)
    2x240mm rad
    2x120mm rad
    1x280mm rad
    2 extra reservoirs
    14-90° fittings & 2-45°s
1 set of QD3 quick disconnects (fairly restrictive)

I've never had issues with it "clogging" anything but the particles do settle anywhere they can, mostly dead spots in the loop and between surfaces like threads of fittings.  I've had it last anywhere from a week to 4 months depending on the loop.  Its a pain but SO beautiful!

A build must be looming!  This time i set up a little temp pc from spare parts while i work on my main system so I'm not rushed to get a working pc again.  I think that will help my patience a lot!  My first loop without a case and i like it!  I will be starting a build log for the main system soon.

    The temp loop:
    Z97 classified w/4790k
    Gtx 980 w/kryographics block
    Xspx ex280 rad
EK dual loop d5 top/res with only 1 side installed
1/2" x 3/4" soft tubing and barb fittings.

Quite surprised the lone 280mm rad is keeping the loop right around 10°c Delta while gaming.

0ld_Chicken reacted to Sauron in Price vs Performance of a GPU when paired with GSYNC
Well, a high refresh rate monitor is kind of wasted if you end up running your games at 60-70fps anyway. Even if you don't reach its peak you'll still get some benefit from buying a higher end card.

Maybe you misunderstand how gsync works - if the card generates 93 fps, you'll see 93 fps. It will be smoother than 70. What gsync does is it slows down the monitor to match the card's framerate, so you don't get any tearing, but it doesn't affect the card's performance nor the smoothness of the scene.

0ld_Chicken got a reaction from StormEye in Price vs Performance of a GPU when paired with GSYNC
I would, maybe even Ti if possible (I did).  1440p/144hz is a lot to drive and while you won't always get 144hz, it really is nice to get as close as you can as every fps makes it a little smoother and less blurry.  Gsync does help things quite a bit in the lower fps range, it makes the dips much less noticeable but you'll still want as much power as you can afford to get that buttery smooth goodness!

I would only ever use something like that for experimental purposes on hardware you can lose without batting an eye, even then I just wouldn't personally.  Performance will be subpar and chances of leaks will be much higher than with a good quality block.

Something like a ek Supremacy MX or xspc Raystorm is a MUCH better option IMO.  Yeah they cost a lot more, but they're cheap for blocks, look decent and have available replacement parts with REAL performance.

Do whatever looks good to you.  As long as you're using proper in/outlets (if there are any, most blocks/pumps have specified in/outs and rads/res usually don't) you'll be fine.  Water temps equalize within the system, especially with only a single component being cooled.
