  1. So, as the title says, my H80i is running too hot. My CPU (fx-8350) is ranging from 40-55 under 7-12% load and my H80i is at a consistent 40 as I'm typing this. My gaming temps hit mid to high 70s consistently. I didn't have this problem until I switched cases from an NZXT Guardian 921 to a Corsair Spec-Alpha. I've read up on various forums to see if there's any solution and it's just the general "re-apply the thermal paste, make sure your mount is good, etc." and so far I've tried re-applying the thermal paste, changing the fans and checked the mount. When I changed the fans, I replaced the front fan from the case fan to the one that came with the H80i. And for one boot, I was getting idle temps under 20 and gaming temps under 60 but the next boot it went right back into these high temps. Everything seems like it should be running fine, the only difference from the old case to the new is that my h80i is now the intake where it was mounted in the back on the NZXT, but I don't see how that would create this much of a difference. I was able to overclock my CPU to a stable 4.5 in the old case, but I'm having trouble keeping it stable at clock speeds in the new one. If I boot up now, the CPU shoots right up to 70-80 before I even do anything and all of my fans are running at 100% making my water cooler sound more like a jet engine in this new case. I would say it's the case looking at everything but that just sounds silly to me and I haven't had the time to change everything back to test that. Thanks in advance for any help.
  2. I beat you all to it http://imgur.com/a/hYQAJ
  3. So I'm new to overclocking and I've been able to get my cpu up to a stable 4.5 with no issues. I've been using prime95 as a stress test and let each test run about 10-15 min to make sure it's stable. While running the tests, I noticed that not all the cores would run at the same speed. So I put my bios settings back to recommended and ran a stress test and I noticed the same situation. I have no clue why this is, or whether it's even supposed to happen or not. So any light on this situation would be greatly appreciated. Please excuse the mouse in the gif.

  5. CPU: FX-8350 Mobo: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 I've been using easytune to overclock my cpu. I have it set on "Extreme" to get 4.5 gHz. However, when running cinebench, this is what Open Hardware Monitor reads https://gyazo.com/c0cb2c4ed82fef476b0484148d8b108c I noticed that some cores are running at 4119MHz instead of the rest being 4320. It also changes cores randomly. This was taken a few seconds after https://gyazo.com/e59956852f374b70c62f980a3c8aa4d8 I have no clue why most of the cores are running at 4320 when they should be at 4521 due to cinebench running 100% CPU. I have no past experience with overclocking and have no clue what I'm doing. Any and all help will be appreciated. Thank you!
  6. https://gyazo.com/b90efab520ed512d620e212199887e47 It's definitely overclocking somewhat (using the newer easytune). Ran cinebench and noticed that cpu core 5 and 7 seem to be holding back all the others. This happens no matter what level I'm overclocking at.
  7. yeah I restarted with each time I changed the settings. The cpu is base 4.0 so I'm not sure why it would lock at 4.2 with a max of 4.4 (with the settings I had applied)
  8. I have a 990fxa-UD3 rev 4.0 Gigabyte motherboard with an AMD fx-8350. I just downloaded easytune to overclock and was able to get the setting set to 4.4 gHz, but when running cinebbench, my CPU will max out at 4.2gHz while open hardware monitor tells me the max is 4.4gHz. Basically I just need to know if the newer version of Easytune will work entirely with my motherboard. I checked the website for my board and they only had easytune 6 in the download section. The new easytune says "Support AMD FM2+/AM3+ series motherboards (support may vary by model)." and I'm not sure if my board will work. I checked newegg and the only other board that I saw with AM3+ from gigabyte is the GA-970A-UD3P. I checked gigabyte's website and the rev 2.0 for that board did have the new easytune available for download. I'm just looking for someone in the same situation because I'm not sure if this is just Gigabyte not updating their website, or if I'm just sol. Thanks!
  9. So I recently installed a water cooler for my cpu and that's great and all. But now my gpu is getting super hot. Hitting about 60 under pressure and idling at 45. Could this be because I don't have an air cooler on my cpu messing with air flow or what? My GPU is a Gigabye gtx-770 windforce 4gb so with 3 fans, I have no clue why it's getting so hot. My fans are Front- intake Side- intake Back- output Thanks!
  10. yeah, it's in the cpu fan header. Pretty sure that's the only one with 4 pins.
  11. If you absolutely can't stand multiple drives in your system, go with the SSD. But if you can tolerate multiple drives, I'd just get a smaller ssd (120 is the sweet spot imo) and then pick up battlefront on origin for 36. Or the ultimate edition for 90 and hope the dlc saves the game. (I love the game personally but no one plays it on pc.)
  12. So my computer has been shutting off randomly for a while now and I've noticed that this only happens when my pc is running silently. Turns out the only reason it was silent was because my cpu fan wasn't running. I'm getting the fan replaced soon, but my fan would sometimes work and sometimes not. Like I can go hours of gaming with my fan running how it should then I come back a few hours later and I try to start a game but my computer shuts off from the cpu overheating. It seems to do this with no rhyme or reason. Would this be a bios setting that I've been skipping over or would this be the fan hardware just getting old? I've had this pc for a year and a half. Here's the stuff in it that matters in this scenario. CPU: AMD FX-8350 Fan: Stock cooler (forgive me for my sins) Motherboard: Gigabyte 990 fxa-ud3 rev 4.0 Thank you so much and Merry Christmas!!!
  13. I've restored windows, changed power supplies, ran memcheck for 36 hours, and RMA'd my gpu. I've had this problem for a few months now. Just quit on me while writing a college application and I lost all my work. (shout-out to college applications not using google docs). But, I digress. This is what the error is when I check the event logs. My last guess would be the cpu is overheating because when I start up the computer again, the cpu fan sounds like a jet turbine. But I have no clue why it wouldn't be trying to cool it down before windows shuts itself down. Anyways, Thanks. I really didn't want to bother anyone with this on a forum but it's my last hope. The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. 14. So I recently installed a bios update from Gigabyte's website and downloaded it. Installed it no problem (first time updating bios on a custom build so I was a little worried) I built the pc on February 14 2014. But I would think a year is fairly short in the life of a pc. Since I updated the bios, my pc seems to shut down at random times. It normally happens on small workload situations but I can never duplicate the situation. When I boot my pc back up, the fans run much more than before it turned off. They stay that way for about 2 minutes and then calm back down. I clean out my pc regularly so I don't think it would be dust. It's not like my pc goes over 35 Celsius in these low workload conditions. Sometimes it's 10 minutes and it'll shutdown. sometimes 30 or not at all. I've noticed it only happens when I'm watching youtube or leaving it idle, but it's not my pc going to sleep. In case it's a power issue, here's everything about my setup I have a gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 rev.4.0 motherboard. I have a 700w psu and a Windforce gtx 770 that takes up 450w. AMD FX 8350 processor, 2 4gb sticks of corsair vengeance ddr3 ram and 2 2gb sticks of the same branding. I do have a lot of peripherals: Logitech C902, G502, G510s, and G35. My case is the NZXT Guardian and I have 1 ssd and 1 hdd. I doubt that would take up 700w but I'm not an electrician so I have no clue. If it's not power. I went ahead and looked at the windows logs and here's what I found that could be of importance 8:27:25 Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered. 8:45:37 The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. 8:45:49 The previous system shutdown at 2:51:05 PM on ‎9/‎6/‎2015 was unexpected. 8:45:51 The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) did not load: dam And that's all I know. I'm open to any ideas and appreciate any help given. Thanks!
  15. Just messing around with monitor stuff today and I noticed I have the option for a 2715x1527 resolution. I have a ASUS VN247H-P so the recommended resolution is 1920x1080. Just changed it for fun and everything was smaller and blurry (not really a surprise) is there any reason this is even an option in display settings and is there any time when using this resolution would actually be better than 1920x1080? Second question is that I went into device manager and checked my monitor and it shows "generic PnP Monitor". I'm running windows 10 now but when I was on 8.1, it showed the model number of my monitor. Is there a reason it's doing this and is this a good/bad thing, or does it matter at all?
