describe a noise because when you say rattle it could just be a loose screw or a bit of plastic broken which is getting rattled.

I feel like this doesn't belong in the audio section and more suited to the storage section.
Nothing against OP or anything but last few months theres been a couple hard drive noises placed into audio section and I don't want to sound like I'm speaking for the hole of the audio forum but I don't think we know much about hard drives compared to the storage forum and I think this this belongs there just so you get better informative replays.

from the frequncy response from there tests it seems to have quite good lows, so i would say you dont need a sub, but wait till you built the speakers then if you feel they are lacking get a sub.
looks like it could be some very nice speakers. post some photos once youve made them I think when I say we would all love to see the final product

Most cheap subs wont be any better then that.

you want a audio mixer like said before but you wont get one which will go into the dac because thats stupid you need to go out of the dac into the mixer into the headphones.

The cheapest way is to line in from the xbox to the pc and then use a free software(google) as an audio mixer to balance that input with the teamspeck or pc sound to the line out to your head phones

Yeah so, xbox sends audio over HDMI (go into settings and make it send it to speakers) using the TV aux plugging into the microphone of your PC, then you can just go into sound options and click listen to self.

What your after is a audio interface give it a google and you should be on your way.

You need a compressor.
A compresses reduce the gain when the input volume gets louder. So when talking it wouldn't do anything but once you get loud enough and pass a limit which you set on the compressor it reduces the volume. This should stop the peaking but there is a stage that it just sounds a bit stupid when it compresses like mad.

But then you get speakers with a impedance as low as 2 ohms, oh they must be so shit with all the interference they get because of there low impedance.

Sonos is a bit over priced, there alright but they sell them selves more then there worth just because its got that wireless system thing

probably the best option for a easy interface, and i think it has some virtual base which is normally better then just turning up the lows on a EQ

Find something which will give you virtual bass its better then just ramping up the lows freqs.

You guys are using something called the Waterhouse effect.
If you take a sub woofer which is omnidirectional (audio going out in every direction) some of the audio is going away from you. So by placing the sub next to a wall the audio is reflected off the wall and towards you. Having the sub against one wall (the floor) the volume is doubled, against two walls (floor and a wall) increase it by 4x, and placing it in a corner so three walls its 8x louder. But each time you add a surface you increase the amount of room modes. So placing it in the corner will make it louder but only louder in certain areas other areas it may be slightly quieter. Audiophiles agreed that using four subs and placing them in the centre of a wall on the floor in a square room, produces the loudest SPL and the least room modes (normally non if in a perfect square).

My opinion on the subwoofer crawl is people just dont understand acoustics well enough to just know where to place something, or they dont know the maths to work out room modes. So they have to crawl on the floor like a idiot and it just falls into place. but hey who needs to know maths when this little website does it for you http://amroc.andymel.eu/

the am5 is no where near powerful enough to power those speakers. The sr10 is just powerful enough.
A amplifier is basically what powers the speaker, if you dont have a powerful enough amp the speaker may not work be very quiet and can damage the speaker. Too powerful of a amp and the speaker will receiver too much power and can again be damaged/blow up (coining of the term blown speaker).
What you want is a amplifier with the right amount of power according to the specifications it say it need something between 60 and 200 Watts but it doesn't say if thats per channel and how its wired up and the manual didnt help me much either which is why i recommend got ask the manufacturer.

So your trying to solve the problem of lobeing of certain frequencies by putting two drivers together on a headphone. But thats not a problem because its a headphone and even if there is a large lobe at 60 degrees or what ever there is always the central slobe which is always going into the ear while the rest just go into the side of the ear cup.
