I remember on a WAN show (possibly long enough ago that it was a the 'Live Stream') there was a topic regarding some sort of new TV antenna sharing/rental scheme which I think avoided fees somehow. If I remember correctly I think that it was facing legal opposition and never took off. I cannot find anything that sounds like what I think I remember, can anyone remember the name or help with more info? Thanks, j29

What about a 34" for a main display, with potential to expand with a couple of 27" ancillaries? If the AOC comes out at the right price, you might even be able to get one and a 27" for about $1k... ...and that way you may be able to avoid limitations with three 27" monitors down the line.

I am looking for a screen/screens for a new pc and I have a budget of £500-£600. I am unsure as to which option to go for and would be grateful of opinions. The new pc will be largely for working on documents with some videos/movies etc as well, looking to upgrade in the future to allow for gaming. The options, as I see them, are as follows: 1) 2 x 23 inch 1080p LG IPS monitors = ~£240 2) 3 x 23inch 1080p LG IPS monitors = ~£360 3) 2 x 25inch 21:9 1080p LG IPS monitors = ~£400 4) 2 x 29inch 21:9 1080p LG IPS monitors = ~£520 5) 1 x ASUS PB278q IPS monitor = ~£440 6) 1 x ASUS PB287q 4k monitor = ~£570 There is also the 40inch Seiki 4k VA monitor coming out in Q1 2015, would it be worth waiting for as text on the PB287q is likely very small? [super strech goal is the 34um95, but it is super expensive so I'd have to sell my soul...] All opinions welcome, thanks

I posted a build here earlier, but have since revised it to hopefully better suit what I want from the finished machine. I would like to be able to run 3 monitors with no discrete GPU at the present time and then in the future add a GPU to the system. The build list should be in the attached image... I went with an mSata SSD because the mobo has an mSata slot on the back and it was comparably priced to the 840 Evo I was looking at, any reasons this is a bad idea? Also, a higher capacity PSU now or leave it until a possible upgrade? Opinions and advice on everything else welcome

Comments read, from the top: Case: Bitfenix Phenom white APU: A10-7850K RAM: 8GB of something at good value Mobo: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI mini-ITX PSU: Something Corsair SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB CPU cooler: Noctua NH-L12 Would something like an H80i be a fair idea, if budget allowed? Yeahhh you make a fair point, duly edited

Case: Bitfenix Phenom white CPU: Athlon X4 760K RAM: 16GB of something at good value Mobo: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI mini-ITX PSU: Something Corsair SSD: probably a Samsung 840 evo 240GB CPU cooler: probably a Hyper 212 evo or similar The aim would be to add an awesome gpu at a later date, perhaps a 780 or 780ti. Apologies for the vaguery in places, all other comments/tips welcome edit: does the 760K even have onboard graphics? oops...

The Guardian newspaper has revealed that some of their journalists were supervised by GCHQ (UK intelligence HQ) staff in the destruction of a computer containing files leaked by Edward Snowden. The procedure was filmed and posted to their website. The video appears to show them destroying hard drives with a dremel and drilling holes into what appears to be an mSATA SSD. Source At the end of the video a wide-angle shot is shown of all of the PC's components and it is obvious that the motherboard, GPU and more have been destroyed. Is this really necessary in order to protect the data that was stored on the PC? Especially considering that the Guardian admitted to having other copies of the files saved in other countries... Edit: Relevant Guardian article

On trying to load Tom's Hardware, my Chrome screen reads like this... "Download the Tom's Hardware App from the App Store The reference for current tech news Yes No Do not show this message again Articles & News Charts Forum Graphics & Displays CPU Components Motherboards Games Storage Overclocking All categories Business Brands Tom's Hardware,The authority on tech Search Tom's Hardware Tags : Graphics Cards CPUs Motherboards Windows 8 Cases " etc... I just checked Chrome and it is up to date, any suggestions as to a fix? Thanks

Thanks Interestingly the GeForce website lists the 670MX's maximum resolution as 2560x1600, which matches with the maximum resolution of HDMI 1.3 where the 660M is listed at 4K. Which is strange considering its a newer and more powerful chip, I guess that must just be a pre-driver-update spec or something. The 660M is Kepler though

Explain? and there was me thinking that DVI+Audio=HMDI...

Got a 'custom' one from PCSpecialist UK. Runs an i7-3610QM, GTX660M, 8GB RAM, 120gb Intel 520 SSD (I use an external Steam/media HDD, though there is a second bay) and a 17.3" 1080p screen. I carry it to lectures every day haha. Thanks everybody for your help

If you don't mind me asking, which monitor is it?

Are all HDMI cables born equal?

I am slightly confused by this, so if it doesn't read right then feel free to correct me below.. I have a laptop with an HDMI port. I want to connect a 1440p monitor by HDMI to the laptop. The laptop runs a GTX660M which handles HDMI output (I think..), which is advertised as capable of a maximum resolution of 3840x2160. So an HDMI cable (do cables have versions?) and a monitor with HDMI 1.4 input is all I need and I'm good to go? As an aside, the 1440p is not intended for gaming on. Would I be correct in thinking that the 660M lacks the horsepower for this in most newer titles? Thanks j29

Though I'd like to go Everki or Crumpler, I can't really stretch that far towards the price premium that comes alongside the premium quality Have found Alienware's "Vindicator" for 75 GBP (~$120, though only priced at $90 on Alienware US...) which had a multi-compartment design that cushions the laptop with the other contents. Thanks all

admittedly a shallower bag would be better.. i might have to go find a milsurp store or something and find out if its excessively large in person. yea but... its not the same

I was looking to get a backpack such as this...(excuse the watermarked image..) ...to carry a 17.3inch laptop around in, as the corners are squarer than other backpacks and I like the styling. I was just looking for opinions on how the interior of the bag could be best adapted to provide some padding to protect the laptop inside from knocks etc.I did think about re purposing some polystyrene, but I think that would crumble and get everywhere.. Ideally it would involve a custom-cut foam insert that the laptop would fit into, but where do you get big lumps of foam? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

I was just reading a news article regarding the closure of Silk Road, but do not understand how the Tor network functions. This is perhaps a big ask, but could somebody explain? Thanks

will get a powered one and chuck it down the back of the desk to hide all the cables thanks all

I am looking for a USB hub that does not have a cable but just plugs into an existing port on the side of my laptop and provides 2/3+ ports whilst sitting flush to the body of the laptop. I cannot find one anywhere. Does anybody know of one? thanks

The house is a multi-tenant rental, the only other window which I have access to is on the ground floor below the room. Also, being a relatively high-crime area leaving a ground floor window open is not advisable. Perhaps a dehumidifier is a better idea, although a fan in the room would circulate the air within the room I was really looking to move fresh air in to help prevent damp etc
