gnaby2 got a reaction from Sang in My old PC was making me nauseous... Time to upgrade
The reason why he didn't put it in the attic is that VR systems need as low latency as possible to work. if you made the cable longer, that would increase the latency a lot. if you went with a faster cable like his thunderbolt connections, that's a really expensive cable which I don't think can even reach the attic and if i did, the time it takes to translate the data from usb to thunderbolt is too much. this is the most cost effective and best solution for the best experience possible

gnaby2 reacted to 5x5 in Looking for battery replacement for my Laptop
Razer warranties are a joke anyway. They don't really fix things as much as just open ans close it with duct tape.
And it can still explode. Assuming you use it, which you can, the battery will get hot. In razers case, that's smouldering hot because their batteries don't have any room to breath or cool properly in order to be more compact because yooo thinness. So it can still Xplode a gen if not punctured. It's happened before on that model sadly. Googling reveals more than one case of razer combustion.

Sync programs (like Synkron) only copy the changes that you make on your folder, each time you schedule a sync, and not the entire data of your drive so you will only have to wait 4+ hours once...

Then a simple usb disk would be fine for what you're after. As many have said, you copy everything the first time then just incremental changes which take a couple of minutes each time.
Some other things to consider:
1. Snapshots - my backup solution (rsnapshot) creates hardlinks to files on the backup drive, only recreating changed files. This way I actually get to keep older versions of files with minimal extra drive space used. I have a weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly snapshot setup, so an old version of a file will hang around for up to a year before being deleted permanently from the backup
2. offsite backups - if you have any really important data, get another drive that you backup to weekly, and leave it in a place that is not your house. For example, mine lives in my desk at work, and I ferry it back and forth to do the weekly backup.

You wouldn't write the entire 1.5TB daily, you only need to write the changes or differences. So after the initial transfer your daily backup should be minimal.
You could just buy a USB drive and setup a task/cron job to xcopy data from A to B. Or use Microsoft Synctoy which can be automated as well. Honestly a lot of external disks come with software to do this for you. That's the cheapest solution with the least administration. A "better than nothing" approach.
I would use google drive for all you really important documents/pictures that don't take up much space. It would be your "long term" storage for the most important data. Maybe do it once a month or once a quarter. There probably exist a way to automate this as well but use caution so you don't end up moving over mass amounts of data lol.

Option no 1.
Get an external HDD plug it on your pc or on a router with storage support via usb and boom you just build yourself a ghetto NAS for your backups (you can schedule automatic backups on certain folders with many programs that run on windows. I personally use this).
Pros
Super easy
Super cheap
Cons
Zero redundancy
Zero features
BAD read-write speeds
Option no 2.
Buy yourself at least one of these boxes and some external HDD and you are in business.
Pros
Super easy
Some nice features
Some redundancy
Cons
BAD read-write speeds
Expensive for what it is
Option no. 3
Build something like this and use freenas and raidz2.
Pros
Great features
Super redundancy
Good read/write speeds
The joy of building it yourself
Cons
Very frustrating and complicated process
Pretty expensive
Many hours of your life required
I hope I helped

Heyo, I would like the regular blade, since it's basically a black macbook pro and I love the aesthetics and aluminum build.
It would be used for school, so gaming, 3d modeling, video editing and rendering, web browsing, programming, etc...
Probably not gonna win, but thanks for the giveaway and good luck to all.

Y'all are bae. That's why we've partnered up with Razer to give away one NEW Razer Blade 14, and one NEW Razer Blade Stealth (full specs listed in the announcement video), with a custom graphic designed by our very own Edzel Yago .
RULES OF THE GIVEAWAY:
1. One entry per user. Duplicate posts and posts from duplicate accounts will be deleted before a winner is drawn, to leave one post per person.
2. Winners will have 72 hours to respond. If a winner does not respond within that time, a new winner will be drawn.
3. This is a worldwide giveaway with no age restrictions. Shipping costs will be covered by the shipper, but any duties/taxes/other fees upon delivery will be the sole responsibility of the winner.
Alright, now that we've got that out of the way, OMG THIS IS AWESOME HOW DO I WIN ONE???:
1. Comment below letting us know which Razer laptop you would prefer to win. Feel free to make it fun - what would you use it for? Why do you prefer the Blade or the Blade Stealth?
2. This is not a REQUIREMENT for entry, but you should definitely follow Razer on Twitter and subscribe to their YouTube page. In addition to providing the laptops for this awesome giveaway AND sponsoring our trip to PAX, they work with a plethora of other incredible creators in a number of spaces, and release cool content with some of them on a fairly regular basis. Please support them on social media and Tweet at them thanking them for this giveaway!!

That's it!! If I've missed anything, feel free to let me know.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ENTERING, AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT ON THIS CRAZY JOURNEY
EDIT:
Alright, we have selected our winners!!!
@Plavi and @willp3, you have 72 hours to respond to the DMs I am sending you right now. If we do not receive a reply in that time, new winners will be chosen! Since both said that the Blade would be their choice, it's on a "first replied first served" basis. (for clarity - what this means is that the first winner to reply will get their choice between the two laptops, and the second winner to reply will get the laptop that the first winner did not choose. This does not mean that we're only giving away one laptop...)
Thanks everyone.
EDIT2:
Alright, so @Plavi has officially claimed the New Blade! Congrats on winning
But, unfortunately for @willp3, he did not respond in time to claim his prize...
Our new Blade Stealth winner is @ted542! Check your inbox, you have 72 hours to reply
EDIT3:
Both laptops have now been claimed. Thanks for participating in this awesome giveaway, and please be sure to keep an eye out for giveaways in the future!
Please don't report posts in this topic - all duplicates will be handled before drawing, so if you have double posted, don't worry about it.

gnaby2 got a reaction from burnttoastnice in Video idea
So I recently had the idea that having a small computer would be really good for traveling, but what if you just want something that is all in one, monitor and desktop, that allows you to have a full size graphics card in it and that doesn't require the razor core? this is where the custom all in one comes in. The build, pretty much, is mounting a small form factor case behind a monitor (something like a corsair bulldog), have a handle on it for carrying, and boom! you have a portable desktop that is 4K capable (if you spend the money). This would be an epic guide to do as some peoples don't quite have the money to buy the skull canyon or other mini desktops like this and need to carry something more powerful the a laptop, but still have great performance. Or for peoples that just want something that is more portable than a full size desktop, less bulky; this would make it so that you don't have to go to the car, take your tower out, put it in the house, go back to the car take your monitor out, then set up the tower, set up the monitor, the mice, keyboard, etc... Here just take the system out, put it on a desk, rig up power, mice and keyboard and you are set.
Linus/luke you could do a guide on how to do this, what you should be looking for when buying parts, you could even make it a battle for who has the best design, the most practical, best looking and many other criterias. This is something i'd really like to see and others probably would enjoy learning about too.

You're not going to find one like you're imagining, DisplayPort splitters are not just cables, there is extra circuitry involved so there is no way to avoid the extra bulk and expense.

yes i think so since he is using only 1 cable, plus it is really long, but for his purpose, it is fine, he is not going to do pro gaming anyways too bad for it
