XPS M2010 makes a 17" laptop look reasonable...

...and makes a 12" look like a scale model.

HDX Dragon/Pavilion 9300 is similarly massive - and all of that space is used well.

    Its subwoofer alone is fist-sized.

Back to the XPS M2010, it unfortunately suffers from optical drive problems, keyboard problems, and horrendous backlight bleed.
As for the optical drive, the awesome raising/lowering mechanism works well, just the slot loading drive inside does not want to eject.
As for the keyboard, its internal rechargable battery is totally dead, and unfortunately that means it's a brick. Will try to replace it.
    As for the screen, well...

I can put up with the flaws of the XPS M2010 and HDX Dragon though, they're both remarkably performant machines with odd designs and I wouldn't be surprised if fewer than 1000 working units of each are still out there.

    Mirror from latest purchases:

Ok so finally gotten round to checking my haul from the 'weird' shop in Bexley.  It's a hair saloon that also sells retro PC parts..(though i'm sure the Dude in there thinks his stuff is bang up to date.  Paid just £50 for this little lot.

3 internal Floppy drives.  One External USB floppy drive and an unopened pack of 10 Floppies.

Unopened 32 Bit PCI Soundcard (hoping for better SoftMPU support on this one over my AWE 64.  Though I'm not holding out for great DOS 6.22 support on it)

and a Hercules CD Writer (IDE) It also has a USB connector coming out of the back of it to power the various flash card readers in the front of it.

    and finally my favorite

These work though the pots could do with being cleaned/replaced.  I think they're gonna look perfect on my Retro rig Frog

yeah the shop is just a treasure trove of stuff like this.  Like i said by day it's a unisex hair saloon.  At night it's an internet cafe.  There are cupboards and cupboards of stuff like this in there too.  I could spend hours just diving through it all

This was one of the cheapest Socket A boards that I saw on Ebay. And only missing the 40 conductor IDE cable. As luck would have it I have a lot of replacement 1500uf caps for the blown Sanyo (board should still post however):

Athlon XP 1800+ under the heatsink, and 1GB mismatched DDR400. One stick labelled "July 2003".

I feel like this thing counts at least as "old".
It's a HP ProLiant ML370 G5, equipped with dual quad-core Xeon E5440s, 40GB of DDR2-555 FBDIMM registered, dual redundant 1000W PSUs and 6 loud hotswappable fans.
There are no drives installed, apart from a 16GB USB-Drive that contains Windows 10. It takes absolute ages to boot, but it doesn't have onboard SATA, so I can't put a harddrive in it to speed it up.
But once the OS loads, it runs quite well, and it got 3111 points in cinebench r23.

Got hooked on ipods thanks to dankpods, found my old 5th gen classic and did a case swap, new higher capacity battery and a 64gb micro SD card to replace the mechanical Toshiba drive. Love this thing!

Original battery was getting weak and the front case had spider cracks forming

    Never seen something that yellowed...
Unfortunately the weird 9500GT is ded, probably because of that shoddy cooling. That was kind of the interesting thing about this machine because there's a weird  back panel breakout with composite, S-Video and a footprint for a SCART connector that would have been fun to play with. PSU's dead too, so it's all going to the dump apart that mATX mobo and the Q6600/4GB of DDR2 on it and the DVD drive that work just fine (owner kept the HDD).

I guess it's only "kind of" retro thanks to the case, but still. Frankly I'm not sure where it's gonna end up, I might just throw it at my TV once I get that side of things more squared away. It DESPERATELY needs a Pure Rock Slim 2, the 6700K sits at 95-100C... In TF2. At some point I'm sure I'll be able to afford it but that time is not now.

    Specs: Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.2GHz, 4x8GB G.SKILL Ares 1866MHz CL10, ASUS Z170M-E D3, 128GB Team MP33, 1TB Seagate Barracuda, 320GB Samsung Spinpoint (for video capture), MSI GTX 970 100ME, EVGA 650G1, Windows 10 Pro, HP Pavilion a6137c case

Dragged my old Compaq portables out of the attic and they both started right up - to a varying degree.  The Compaq II (green screen)  booted DOS 6.0 and worked fine after hitting F1 a few times. New they went for almost $5k.   The 386 (orange screen) hard drive was unresponsive and had some screen artifacts.  New it went for between $8k and $10k.  Not worth much of anything now.  They will make nice nightlights.

The system that was built in my current case originally was a dual PIII server, thing was a monster. Sold/gave the board to a fellow forum member a long time ago 😛

hmmmmmmm that looks awfully familiar, can't quite put my finger on why though 👀

Someday I really need to make a build with it again, even if I don't use it very often.

If you ever change your mind let me know, just cover shipping and I'm good!

I got some Phenom x4 and x3 CPUs I used in them before. I will always be a Core 2 fanboy but unlocking cores on the Phenom II series is still the coolest thing ever!

I'm not that worried about it, I have much more expensive and important fish to fry and unfortunately I'm on a frozen fish stick budget.

I got a perfectly usable 1100T system built up the storage unit.  It's just a lack of certain instructions that put it to rest really

fucked up when i went to touch up 5.25" drive bays with paint 😞  I'll have to knock it back with some sand paper and give it another blast.  I think it happened cause i didn't full depress the nozzle on the rattle can and covered it in thinner.  Pain in the bum XD

Got the three panel's insides painted at the same time though.  Decided to do the black first cause the side panels have vents in them and it'll be easier to deal with white over spraying on the black than the other way around in the event it happens

Once that was hardened I masked the black paint off and started the sanding process preparing for the coat of RAL 1013

Should be finishing off the sanding before work tomorrow.  Then hopefully good weather permitting start the painting.  Wish me luck

Just need an IO shield, would work great in that HP and can overclock it a bit 🙂

Literally the one time I decided to not buy the DVD box set for the show I'm watching currently and my subscription membership is going to end before I finish the series. Or I've had it where it gets removed before finishing it 🤦‍♂️
