  1. So replace the fan or fix the fan? Any good way to figure out which?
  2. For some reason I am having some graphics issues. I have a GTX 980 (windows 10) and HD games run beautifully, however during normal use I get tearing effects. Not in the sense that one part of the screen gets delayed later but that you can briefly see the wallpaper behind the window, or black and white. The tearing is in wierd shapes mostly centered around the vertical middle of the screen. Although the height range of the tear isn't uniform, it does go across the screen. I haven't been able to track down a reason why however I have noticed a couple things that might be responsible. 1. I have a dual monitor setup, only the other monitor is from when Pentium processors cost a fortune and were considered "high tech". However I have not seen tearing on that display, only on my Acer H236HLbid 23.0" 60Hz Monitor. 2. For some reason I can't change settings in windows 8. For example it will show that I changed my proxy, but it won't actually or it will freeze that part of the interface. 3. I have seen it once when I was watching the presidential debate, for some reason whenever I moved my mouse the effect would appear somewhere random on the screen. Once I clicked the window the effect was gone. 4. Often times this happens with Paint.net. 5. I have not been able to instal a NVIDIA "Game ready" driver in awhile because the download bar is stuck at 0. If I am able to catch it on video I will let you know. Thanks much!
  3. So my computer has been making weird noises for a couple months now. And today I decided "Enough is enough" and decided to seek help. It hasn't gotten worse or anything it is just annoying. The computer is one that I built, and I would test it by unplugging various components to see if it makes it shut up, however the sound doesn't happen at predictable times. I have a recording where I managed to capture it in its "wide cycle" and then return to a "shorter cycle" (see attached). A few minutes later it went back to almost normal computer sound. The moving parts on my computer to my knowledge are 1. Case fans (Phanteeks ethos luxe) 2. CPU fan (Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO) 3. Hard Drive (Seagate Barracuda) 4. DVD Reader (LG UH12NS30 Blu-Ray Reader) 5. GTX 980 has fans on it I do run matinence on my computer in the form of compressed air about every two months or so. If you have any ideas of what it could be please let me know! Voice 016.m4a
  4. You know Windows did say it wanted to restart after it collected info then it had 0%... Should I leave that then mabye it will go to Windows and let me fix drivers?
  5. What will be the fastest way to fix the gpu and get Windows installed and all the programs I have on it? How do I wipe the old Windows drive.
  6. Could I mabye use another drive a new one? And then install it on the new one then update the drivers from that Windows. Then wipe it and go back to the old one? I plan to use that drive for os x once I have wiped it.
  7. How do I do that? I do have the install disk and the key. Won't this ruin all the windows software I have put on it?
  8. Hello. So I had a perfectly working computer. Until... Today. So here are some recent things I have been doing. So I was trying to install hackintosh with unibeast and have still been unsuccessful. So here's what I did. 1. I used to have hdmi from the gpu to my display. 2. Switched it to a dvi connection. 3. Switched it back to hdmi 4. Unsuccessfully tried installing hackintosh 5. Removed the wireless card from a pci slot 6. Tried to do hackintosh... Failed 7. Put the wireless card back in. And now here's what happening. If you look at the bios instead of showing as a GTX 980 it shows. NVIDIA Corporation. VGA-compatible controller, running at x16 And when Windows runs it has an error. How can I fix this?
  9. Good point! Thanks @pentotark. So I want to say a big thanks to all of you guys who helped on this. Ive got it at a good point right now! @lmakuni, @lee32uk, @AcupunctureSoup Im going to mark the solution as the one that saved the most money... but you guys all helped!
  10. Thankyou for catching that. I cant believe I made that mistake! I promised myself I would NEVER get a stick of ram less then 8gb. Here is my rationale for the 980. SLI sounds a bit messy. I would rather have a really good strong card at first. Also it is slightly unlikely that I will be able to buy parts that are 300$ plus after my initial build. I will have to think on it. I just decided that i agree with the 5820k change that saves a ton of money! Way to go Lee32uk!
  11. I am making a good Schoolwork VFX Programming 3 Display Music Composition Future Proof (needs to last atlas 5+ years) Gaming Computer
  12. @Sandals That monitor is around my budget and looks like it would be a great one the one that is listed as 0$ is one I already own... Its an early 2000's LTX monitor with specs around that one.
  13. @AcupunctureSoup: Probably will be doing some blu-rays. And as far as the wireless card, I dont have ethernet where the computer is getting placed, and power line is out of my budget when I could just use less powerful wireless. @lee32uk GREAT POINT! I will look into this! @melias24... Mabye Thank you guys great tips!
  14. Subject 1 https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Cubby208/saved/#view=6smBD3 This is my build. I was wondering if their are any parts that have an equivalent or slightly lower part that is a lower price. The goal is to see if the price can go down more without sacrificing tons of preformance/quality. My goal is to make this build last as long as possible. You should know I am planning to do 2 way sli some day, and up to 64gb of ram Also I am pretty sure I want the parts on the list below, I probably wouldn't change them.. however I could be reasoned with CPU GPU PSU(I need the watts for when I have more ram and graphics) If you have the time please write out what I sacrifice by changing the reticular part. Subject 2 Out of these companies can you answer the questions base on your experience? Amazon SuperBiz Outlet PC NCIX (USA) Newegg 1. Lets say i got a part them bent a wire or something... which seller if any would be the most sympathetic 2. Who has easy returns 3. Who has good customer service 4.Who will always ship the right part 5. Which sellers would probably deliver most parts in under 1.5 weeks on the lowest rate? 6. Also are their any pcpartpicker.com sites to avoid? THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU Much!!!
  15. Hey! So I am building a computer for these jobs (in order of importance) 1. Schoolwork (the boring tedious and strenuous stuff, simple process) 2. Video Editing (some 3d work, particle effects, grading, stable renders) 3. Programming (microsoft visual studio, maybe some unreal eventually, Xcode) 4. Music composition (logic pro x, sibelious) 5. 3d Gaming 6. Movie watching *Dont worry I know some of these are mac softwares, I got it under control My budget it around the 2 prices of the builds (aka no parts that add a ton of money to the cost) Here are the two builds. I have not decided between a 4 or 6 core processor yet. So if you could please evaluate them both. A. 4-core https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Cubby208/saved/#view=MVF323 B. 6-core https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Cubby208/saved/#view=YTmBD3 Both of these designs MAY someday get 2-way sli, and 16gb more ram. PSU is chosen for that in mind... not sure if I have enough fanning. I will have up to 3 1920 x 1080 displays. But for now only one + plus a really ancient monitor. Anyway could you please check through build A, and B for these things 1. Fanning (I'm not overclocking) I want all of these parts to last for as long as humanly possible. 2. Bottleneck... The less the better. Just make sure the cpu can handle the full capacity of the machine 3. Networking (I haven't done this completely yet). I want it to be able to do wireless, wired, and Power adapter based networking. 4. How much better is build B then Build A 5. How future proof does this appear to be (part degradation, running next gen stuff) 6. Do I need thermal paste 7. Anything else? Thank you much!
