GTX 970 is better for the most part, but it isn't cheaper. I'd take if over R9 290, for sure - but when you look at the market, in most countries the GTX 970 is significantly more expensive.

Either OP lives in a wonderland where power is stupidly expensive and left the card running on for 24/7 while he didn't use the older nVidia system at all, or her mother is overpaying for electricity, or the power bill increase does not account for the change of GPU alone. Or then he just wants to bash the manufacturer, considering he's just saying that the card "killed" those power supplies.

alfaomega got a reaction from incarnate in GTX750 with 1GB v.ram , is it enough?
I guess I'll chime in since I have the 1gig version.

From experience, I would just stick with the 1gig and call it a day. Before any of my games have ever used the full gig of vram, the 750ti is already dipping below 30 so even if it had 2 or 4gigs, it wouldn't really be an advantage. And sure newer games will use more and mods and etc etc, but then again, with those newer games, the 750 will struggle even more. Also, keep in mind I was able to overclock it to 1400 boost clock and even so, the card is doing very well with 1gig of ram. If you were to spend more money, I would use that extra money to actually get a better card.

Keeping that in mind, here's the link that will be best for what he is looking for. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500327R&cm_re=750_ti-_-14-500-327R-_-Product
It's $5 less than my $120 I paid for my 1gig version AND is the ti version, which does perform better than the 750.

Not going to happen. Those cards will barely play the lower end games and are basically around a 360/PS3 on their best days.

Don't know how much is stuff over in your area but the least (and i'm talking about VERY least) you should go for is the r7 260x/gtx750.

alfaomega got a reaction from deigo73 in Upgrade
you're in a kind of hard spot for upgrading. Not because there's no point in upgrding but because you're actually at "decent rig" and this really only leaves one real option for upgrading which is the "true gamer's pc".
Based on your gpu, your next upgrade should ideally be into the 970/290x territory to even make it worthwhile. However, once you decide to do this, you will aslso be in need to upgrade the cpu to match the new gpu. So this also leaves really with only one option which is the forth generation i5 (or i7 if you will be doing other stuff other than gaming).
This will also mean a new monitor if you're running 1080 to take advanget of the new rig.
However, this begs the question of is it really worth it. If you are happy with 1080, your rig does very well for that resolution so, personally, I see no reason to really upgrade. However, if you have a certain specif goal in mind (144hz competitive gaming, higher mimimum fps, locked 60fps/1080, or such things) just upgrade whatever will to whatever will meet that particular goal.
But if you have some extra funds and you have the upgrade itch, I would recommend to get an ssd and a nice set of headphones/2.1/5.1 sound system or a really comfortable chair. Sure they won't give you more fps at all, but they sure are amazing for the overall experience.

Oh man, going from a 210 to a 750ti (and get the ti preferably), will be like going all the way from ps1 all the way to ps4. you'll beat yourself up wondering why you hadn't done it much sooner. I went 210 to 630 to 750ti and each upgrade was very significant.

Ahhh, I just looked at your pc specs. In that case my first response would have been different. Your processor will hold back anything above a 750ti. How do I know? Because that's actually the system I run. C2q 8400 2.66ghz, 750ti 1gig, 4gigs ddr2. And you could actually throw in 32 gigs of ram and it would basically give zero improvement. While the processor does a 750ti justice, anything above that is a a waste.
So if you want to get something better, a new cpu is going to be required. Along with a motherboard of course. You can reuse the ram if ddr3, but if not youll need new ram as well. I will be making this upgrade once VR hits and taylor around that.

What do you expect, it's a business.

They charge however much their costumers are willing to pay. If you are not willing to paid said price, you are not their costumer then. It might surprise you but not everyone like building their own rigs and much less troubleshooting them. So they pay a hefty premium to get a pc in the mail that "simply works". This is usually when you have more money than time available.

This is very much like building your own speakers. All you really need is a few cheap tools, plywood, screws and glue, and the driver itself. Yet put it altogether and turn it into an actual speaker and it they add $800 on top of what all the materials cost.

Of course computer building is extremely simple when compared to speaker building but the example I wanted to make was that basically there are people that want the finished product but don't want to deal with getting their hands dirty, so to speak.
