  1. I played around with the wifi channel and was successful in connecting to 5Ghz on channel 157. But i'm not excited because after the config change my wifi speeds have dropped below 10mbps (on a 50Mbps connection) which is downright unusable. I'm seeing better speeds after reverting the config changes. I'm curious, should a performance hit be expected with a wider channel? It could mean i have to settle with 2.4Ghz and deal with occasional hiccups rather than the snail's pace on wider channel
  2. my new work laptop running windows 10 refuses to connect to the 5GHz band on my router. throws a generic message saying 'can't connect to this network'. Every other device in the house is able to connect to 5GHz band just fine. heck, the laptop is connecting fine to other 5GHz networks like my mobile hotspot too !! its only been a month since i got this laptop and i've been struggling to figure this one out since. the 2.4GHz works fine but occasionally there's interference with my bluetooth devices causing the network speeds to drop i'd be forever grateful if anyone can help me with this. laptop make: Thinkpad E15 wlan: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 driver version: 22.70.0.6 router: D-Link DIR 819 AC Dual Band firmware: 1.06 (latest) troubleshooting i tried: Windows troubleshooter reset network adapter updated drivers manually from the manufacturer's site updated the firmware on the router changed the ssid & password tried connecting to the network with wps Took it up to the IT team in my office. they connected it to a different 5GHz network and blamed it on my router. (again, works fine for the rest of the devices at home). the router is fairly new too (i can claim warranty and get it replaced) . I'm just trying to understand which one's at fault here. Thanks.
  3. @brob @SilkyDistress Thanks for the list. I have always assumed that Quadro GPUs were highly expensive. I had a GTX 1050/1060 in mind earlier. Does Quadro offer better performance over the 4GB 1050 card ? - yM
  4. Considering the budget, not a requirement. Thanks for the list. I plan to incrementally upgrade the PC with an SSD. Maybe a 500GB HDD alongside a 120GB SSD should keep the cost low, without having hiccups while working on it ?
  5. Hi All, This is my first post in the forum & possibly a first PC build. I have to decided to build a PC for my friend who's an Architect. Her laptop is dying and slowing down her workflow. This PC is not going to be used for gaming/media consumption. She mostly does 3D modelling in AutoCAD, SketchUP. And for rendering V-Ray, Lumion are used. and Photoshop sometimes. Can you guys suggest a good CPU, Compatible Motherboard & Graphics for this use case scenario ? I prefer Intel CPU. But considering the budget I really don't mind having an AMD CPU if it offers better performance. Form Factor: Mini ATX\ ATX Budget: $500 - $600 (USD; including a single monitor cost) Hoping I can figure this out soon enough, Cheers, Yashwanth.
