Toxicable got a reaction from Ryouichi Kiriyami in Simple(?) Cpu Question
Ill try explain this in a very over simplified version that ill probably get hated on for
programme1 can use up to 3 GHz on 2 cores - example of this is a game - which would be bottle necked by the quad 2GHz CPU
programme2 can use up to 1 GHz on 4+ cores - example of this might be compression programmes or rendering - Which would be bottlenecked by the duo 4 GHz CPU
The reason for them being only able to use tro use a CPU in this way is out of scope of this answer.
But to quickly explain it you can see some programmes are coded to user your CPU if a different kind of way, that's why everyone keeps saying cpu that fits your needs.
But also as explained by Luke in that video he did recent, bot all GHz's are created equally.

Toxicable got a reaction from Isomania in Suggestions on Build
We need a budget
Also please don't link a whole bunch of images like that, use pc part picker as you have but instead on the system overview page click and copy the code from [bb] or the permalink to the build on the side
In saying that this build will be much better at $120 more

Toxicable got a reaction from Faceman in i5 3570k Vs Xeon?
Not always correct.
The E3-1231v3 is a good alternative to the i74690k if you want the cores but don't care about overclockability

Could we have a budget, location and a generalisation on what programs you're running?

Toxicable got a reaction from Totalschaden1997 in intel i5-4690K Mobo ?
Most motherboards of the same chipset (You'd want a Z97 chipset) offer very similar features, as long as it's a normal brand.
The main difference is how many PCI=E 16x slots a board has and how the UEFI is, apart from those two things most are prettyt much the same in terms of how they overclock and what not.
Personally if you're making a colour coded build go for whatever one suites that, otherwise just the cheapest one.

Toxicable got a reaction from Decon in HELP! I am a complete newbie to computer building and I want some advice!
Please read the above
It would be easier if you werer to give us a budget then work from that but for something that'll last a few years with all the modern things about $1500
But it all really depends on what you want it for, you mentioned gaming we'll that's a given but would you also want it for streaming or content creation
this might be a base to work from

Toxicable got a reaction from dfsdfgfkjsefoiqzemnd in 512GB or 1TB SSD for gaming/video e. build
Get 2 500s and put them in raid 0
or 2/4 250's and also put them in raid 0
The 250's have the lowest price/GB

Toxicable got a reaction from Poepiniwindt in Building a Cuatom PC in New Zealand
There are a few, pb tech, computer lounge, 1st wave tech
But I wouldn't say they're enthusiast grade, I don't even know if they stock water cooling parts (ive never gone there myself) check picespy.co.nz to get a better idea. But it might be cheaper if you buy the mroe consumber grade parts from them then other enthsiest parts from amazon, as long as you keep it under 400 NZD per order you avoid any import taxes
ALso note that partpicker dosent include a lot of the smaller hardware shops
-
Toxicable got a reaction from rhyseyness in 2 GPU in 1 system but not SLI/CF
I dont understand why you'd want toplug them into different cards in the first place since the one card has more than 1 monitor output
As for having 2 cards, yes you can, what some people do is use one card as a Phys X slave but that's about all you can do with it
You'd be better off selling it
