incarnate got a reaction from Zando_ in Will my current rig handle a GTX 980ti?
Your rig is fine for the 980ti. You won't have any issues

incarnate got a reaction from Jinchu in Stable overclock, unstable at stock...
It could be that over the years, the cpu has degraded a bit. When a cpu degrades, it needs more voltage to maintain stability. try running a stability test, Intel xtu, occt etc at stock. If it crashes, then I'd wager its cpu degradation. In which case you can slightly overvolt the cpu at stock to clear it up

incarnate reacted to killcomic in i5's not enough
No. It's the same as people saying that no-one games at 1080p because everyone has moved to 4K.
Check out Steam's survey. A lot of people still game on 2 cores. Developers are not going to make games that require CPUs that most people don't use.
My 3570K still plays just fine. I think it's wishful thinking more than anything else.

incarnate got a reaction from PCGuy_5960 in Bottleneck
If cs:go is cpu intensive then so is minesweeper. You're wrong. A game that gets HUNDREDS of fps on mainstream consumer cpus is NOT cpu intensive. You can't just wave your hand and magically proclaim it to be so.

Just because most people use the them incorrectly (like the majority on this site does with bottleneck) doesn't make them any less wrong. Sorry if it seemed like I was upset with you, it's more or less the people that redefine terms to suit their lack of understanding that upset me.

They are, unless you run them at full speed....

incarnate got a reaction from done12many2 in mico atx vs atx
There's no real pros and cons beyond the size and number of expansion slots. I guess you could make the argument that micro atx boards fit in more cases, but again that's a size thing.
Your friend is full of shit btw, micro aux boards have been around for a long ass time and still haven't taken over.

I was thinking the same thing, but enjoyed your subtle approach!

Adaptive mode is for voltages.
Try looking in the manual for your mobo for an explanation, our at the very least, tell us which mobo you have.

incarnate got a reaction from Spudbilly in 3 questions
You'll know when Windows pops up a message saying memory is running low. Til then don't worry.
If you run out of ram in a game you won't have to ask, it won't cause stutters, it will tank your framerate pretty badly. It will vary per game, but it is usually frequent but short lived dives in framerate (if I'm not mistaken).

This is why you don't use a stock cooler on a high end CPU.

incarnate got a reaction from YoloSwag in Whats highest good temps under load?
The 1080 stats throttling after 83°C or so, but won't get damaged until about 100°C.
The i7, anything under 85°C at load is acceptable.

incarnate got a reaction from Megah3rtz in AMD Athlons on A budget.
That doesn't change the fact that the AMD cpu is no where close to the power of an i5 6500. There's no other side to it. If AMD had anything close to a i5's performance, it would be priced around the same as the i5.
You need to realize it isn't AMD's job to be robin hood. They are cheap because they are way behind in performance, not because they are "good guys".

incarnate reacted to DocSwag in XMP, will it mess with my cpu?
If you enable XMP it shouldn't make your CPU run at the max speed all the time. I don't know where you read this but it's incorrect.
The only thing you might want to look for is if when you enable XMP is the BCLK is raised. If it is, your CPU and cache are also being overclocked which you don't want. If enabling XMP does that, don't enable it, but I don't think it should do that.

incarnate reacted to Shadow_Storm56 in CPU usage question
It does not matter what cpu you have.... or how powerful... there are always spikes. just little backround processes and stuff. I have a 6 core 12 thread and i can get spikes to.... 99 % of the time at idle im 2% but it can spike to 12. The worst thing you can do is look for problems that are not there. If it was steady or if it caused lacking performance then i would say there is an issue ...but otherwise then don't worry about it. Feel free to ask questions... we like to help here

Check your Windows power plan in the control panel while you're at it.
If it isn't a power saving plan causing it, it might be the vrms overheating

incarnate got a reaction from porina in recommended free Hardware %
No. Just no. Usage makes no difference. Temps are far FAR more important.
100% usage at 70°C is absolutely fine whether using an i3 or a 36 core xeon.
50% usage at 100°C is absolutely dangerous.
So long as your voltages are within tolerance and temps are fine then usage makes no difference
