I don't see any reason to give intel shit about the socket update. 1151 wasn't designed to handle that many cores, and that is why we have 2011. A revision for 6 core support is expected, and completely fair.

As long as the i5-8600K costs no more than $250 and the i7-8700K is $350, it should be quite a comfortable choice as long as they keep the ring bus design.

    Since when is it double?!?

Also keep in mind when OCed you'll be looking at around 15-20% higher single thread performance on the 7820x

Asus was the first to do it and others followed.  Running anything outside of specifications would be considered overclocking or underclocking, but this is a bit different in that it's just allowing each core to operate up to its maximum Turbo 2.0 speed and voltage simultaneously.  Intel wants the the core speed to drop in order to try to maintain their joke of a TDP rating, which we all know is worthless information.

Enabling multi-core enhancement or its equivalent does not change multiplier or voltage settings in any way.  It's still following Intel's programmed VID.

All Asus motherboards have this enabled by default.  The Gigabyte x299 motherboard that I had also had this feature enable by default.  Hell, I had to manually change shit around on that Gigabyte x299 board just to get the 7900x to run slower than 4.5 GHz for some rediculous power virus shit that @MageTank and I were doing.

All that said, and as @Lays previous mentioned in a more passionate way, "whens the last time you saw an intel chip run at "base" clocks???"

It's a good thing that guys like you and I don't take base clocks too seriously.  Judging by your signature, you're running your 6700k at 4.7 Ghz or 700 MHz higher than your baseclock with average cooling.  I run my 5960x at 4.7 GHz or 1700 MHz higher than baseclock with above average cooling.  Where would we be if we base clocks were even a real talking point?

The new i5 and i7 will be the new gaming king. I'd imagine the 8700K will give Ryzen a real run for its money for productivity.

    So it's looking like i3 = 4c4t, i5 = 6c6t & i7 = 6c12t.

This is great news for all. These processors are going to be unmatched for gaming and even some productivity. Overclock this CPU to 4.7-5.0 and that's a straight behemoth of a processor.

@zMeul Instead of marking my post funny you could actually try an answer my very simple question. It didn't need to be an argument at all, this issue is talking about SMT then you said it exists when SMT is disabled and I'd like to know how that is possible, not a hard question. Especially when the original source says the bug does not happen when the cpu-bound loop is on a different core than the core doing the IRETQ, the only way they can be run on the same core is with SMT.

Marking posts as funny is rather childish.

Here is the official finalized specs of the i9 line up. To me those base clocks look very low which makes me think a 1950x will be faster then the 7960x at stock settings.

Just as all cores on the 7900X will boost to 4.3 GHz (actually higher), I'd expect that the 7980XE will boost to 4.2 GHz on all cores under load.  4.2 GHz on all cores will put it considerably ahead of the 1950x.

    You're way off.

Believe it or not, this is actually good news for the i9 lines as I didn't think they were even going to hit a TB 2.0 of higher than 4 GHz.  At 4.2 GHz boost on all cores, the 7980XE is going to be a nasty multi-threading CPU and should crank out a 4300cb to 4400cb without even officially overclocking it.

Yeah, people just don't realize that the baseclock is there to simply try to meet TDP expectations.  That chip will never run anywhere near that slow as long as it's cooled.  Just like any other Intel chip to date.

Indeed.  The 10 core would probably be a better "fit" for my usage scenario of future proofing + high single core performance from an overclock, but the 18 core is what really interest me because it's going to (probably) be a wild ride.  I'll feel accomplished if I see CorsairLink indicatig 4 digits of CPU power consumption.
