So this means that AMD fanboys shouldn't buy Vega since they're causing AMD to lose money then.

At least wait a few more days for the 7920X reviews to hit the streets. Reviews along with the CPU will be available before the end of the month.

The larger Skylake-X chips will have a larger die and transfer heat to the IHS much better.  There's a good chance that a 12core 7920X will run as cool or cooler than a 10 core 7900X.

Other than that, if you know you want Skylake-X / x299, do your thing man.  Soon your thread will be filled with the typical LTT "don't do it" posts and you'll spend more time weeding through that shit than getting actual answers to your question.  It's just how this particular community is.

We have a tendency to exaggerate greatly around here.

Somebody better tell all those Ryzen and z270 users that only half their boards are working since they don't have 44 lanes either.

Threadripper is not faster if you also need single core performance and as @done12many2 already said, some of the programs that @XYOUNEED uses are single threaded and some are multi threaded. The i9 strikes a good balance between single and multi core performance, so it's the best option IMO.

Thank you all for sharing your opinions with me and others
I'll go for the I9 7900X my wallet will scream at me for a few months but I know It'll be a great upgrade in the end.
This thing will be overclocked for sure, let's see where I can push it.

Here's some of my 3D work, it still needs many tweaks.
So I am happy to invest in some hardware to make the process way faster

I have a 3930K currently so it's going to be a big difference

Good choice. You'll be happy! I'm happy with my 7820X as are many others. The performance is unparalleled core for core. I'm going to see reviews of the Apex and might join onboard pending reviews go well. The MSI Carbon is good but I've always eyed the Apex. ?

JFC, people bitch and moan for years about wanting 6 cores on the mainstream platform, now it's going to happen and everyone cries about it still.

Remember how much headroom Ryzen chips have when overclocking, and how much headroom 7700k's have, now add 2 cores and a better process, think about the result when both are overclocked

The ipc is actually quite a bit slower than haswell, it is certainly not haswell level.

Also, you can look at benchmarks of a 4790K vs any Ryzen chip, usually the 4790K wins in games only optimised by 4 cores (indicating haswell ipc > ryzen ipc) and at that it wins convincingly.

I would say Ryzen's IPC is somewhere between sandybridge and haswell.  Either way, it's at least 5 years behind in terms of IPC and silicon quality. I mean a sandybridge i7 doesn't have much trouble getting to 4GHZ, and your pretty lucky if you can get any Ryzen chip to 4GHZ. They played the money game now, but lacking in performance means Intel still dictates the market. If intel throw out this 6 core and 8 core at competitive prices; Ryzen will be totally obsolete. Intel has AMD by the balls.

Edit: also, AMD have been playing the "core" game for a while. While I think Ryzen is one of the bigger success stories of their core game, there's only so far they can go with it. Now that Intel have mainstreamed 6 cores with AMD, there will become a point where people want higher IPC rather than a mainstream 16 core processor. I think if AMD's plan is for Zen+ and future Zen generations to have crappy ipc and clockspeeds in exchange for cores, they need to seriously rethink what the consumer wants. At this point in time, i'd take a 6 core 8700K over a 8-core 1700 anyday; the clockspeed and ipc advantage is too good to turn down.

What this guy said. 8700K will be the best consumer CPU on the market releasing in October. If you can wait, wait. No sense in buying a lesser product now.

    So it's looking like i3 = 4c4t, i5 = 6c6t & i7 = 6c12t.

Once again, an overclocked 5960x will generally be faster than a more modern Ryzen R7.  Just because you say so doesn't change that fact.

You said "Thank you Amd as Intel has basically stayed the same 4770K was 350$ at release and so is the 7700K today, what 10% more IPC at best with slightly better overclocking is all we got from side blue in the past 3 years." in your first post.  Just out of curiosity, what did we get from AMD during those same 3 years?

You seem to be using this thread as a means to deliver your message about Intel.  We get it, they cost more.  Generally speaking, you pay more for higher parts.  Nothing new and I'm definitely not justifying that it's worth it to all as that is completely subjective.

Let me know if you want to pit your Ryzen R7 up against my 5960x.  That would kill two birds with one stone.  We'd clear up your confusion and help answer the OP's questions.
