As long as it doesnt stay at that voltage for any extended duration, like you said, then it wont hurt it. Thats especially true since your temps are wonderful. To give some credit to that statement, my 4790k at 4.7ghz is set to 1.35v in the bios, but during stress tests its more like 1.365v. If I let a torture test run for a few minutes it will spike up to a max of 1.41v, but never for more than a split second, which is the DANGER ZONE for these old haswell chips. It's been on these settings for almost 2 years now, still does the exact same as the day I got it.

Single 120mm/140mm radiator AIO's are just not good. A half decent air cooler will perform the same/better at the same/lower price. I wouldn't recommend any AIO with a radiator smaller than 240mm.

Yeah the 7700k single core 4ghz = 8700k/9700k single core 4ghz. There is VERY little upgrade to be had, only in a handful of games today would it help to have more cores/threads.

It'll play 1080p  60fps, likely at medium settings. Shouldn't be too bad a system, you could also look at different cases should you not like the look of that one. Edit: modified the list for better pricing

Those temperatures are bad. It's probably been thermal throttling the whole time, but it simply has gotten worse with age due to dust/old thermal paste etc. You should look into how to open up the laptop, clean her out with a can of air, and repaste the CPU. It would be well worth your time.

Aside from turning up the GPU fan, there's nothing that can be done. If it's any consolation, my old FX 8350 / GTX 580 SLI rig was an 800w monster, both 580s and the CPU were max OC'd. The 580's had a much louder blower cooler on them than your 2070 and the top card would touch 89-90*C during the summer months. It was fine, just loud and alarmingly hot. Last I heard both 580's run fine to this day. It doesn't matter that you're at 75c lol dont worry

I will inform you of this as I've tried my best to stay in tune with PC components and stuff since 2012-2013. There won't be anything faster than a 2080 ti (except the Titan RTX which you mentioned) that will come out. RTX is new stuff and there won't be any follow up or refresh to make it any faster. That being said, SLI is optimal in 4k and I'm pretty hard pressed to believe a 9900k bottlenecked anything. If you built a PC with a single 2080 ti and a 9900k, the experience in 4k would be amazing. The Titan RTX would be a LITTLE bit more amazing I guess with a few more fps than a 2080 ti, but the price/performance of that is horrible. I can't say get SLI either because 2 years ago I was running SLI GTX 580's/570's/650tiB's and all of them had different amounts of scaling, none of which were consistently more than 70% on each card. Meaning at most, I had 140% the performance of a single card. It's a decent improvement when it works, but when it doesn't work it often lowers fps or introduces weird issues. About half my steam library was SLI enabled, and the other half not because it made it worse. I don't think its worth twice the power draw and heat output for mostly the same experience 98% of the time. So yeah 9900k/2080ti is best idea for tldr

Vegetable got a reaction from Quadriplegic in Why is the fx-8350 So Underrated for 4k Gaming?
Thats just the part you're not understanding. This is how a CPU bottleneck works: once that CPU maxes out utilization-wise (100% usage), thats your max fps. It doesn't mean a single fuck what your GPU is, because it is being limited to however many frames your CPU can handle. So, with that being said, his 780 would get the same fps as your 1080 ti would, because its still being bottlenecked. You might be able to run ultra settings and get the same fps as his 780 would on medium, but it will never be higher than his. So you're getting <gtx 780 performance out of a 1080 ti.

Vegetable got a reaction from mbox in Why is the fx-8350 So Underrated for 4k Gaming?
Seeing as your minimum fps is less than 30 in ALL of the scenes, AND the average is below 60 for ALL of the scenes of the SINGLE benchmark you have provided, then yes, your monitor CAN process more frames and your 1080 ti REALLY can process a lot more frames than that. I personally turn settings down until my minimum fps is ABOVE 60, because below that just feels like crap to me. You average less than that, so you have a terrible experience if you ask me. Like I've said before, I had an FX 8350. Overclocked it to 5ghz with 2133mhz ddr3 on my kraken x61. It still BOTTLENECKED SLI GTX 570S. Those are slower than gtx 950s and they were held back by my FX. If I slapped a 1080 ti on that system today, it would get the EXACT same fps as my SLI 570s did, because they weren't the limiting factor in my fps.

Yessir it is. It's a GCN thing in general actually. Even the HD 7000 series undervolts pretty well, as well as obviously the 290(x)/390(x). I can drop 3c by going from stock voltage to -75mv at 1050mhz core.

If you don't want to push voltage further and can't get 4.6Ghz stable, then just dial it back to 4.5Ghz and pull the voltage back until its unstable, then back up a little bit and she's good. I've found that 1 multiplier step below your max OC is usually the sweetspot. I can push 4.8Ghz 1.4v but it's just unreasonable because I can do 4.7Ghz at 1.35v. I'd rather enjoy lower temps and noise for the loss of those 100mhz.

I went from 60hz to 144hz in January 2018. I didn't think it would make a difference aside from pleasing my eyes, but its soo much more. The smoothness is unmatched, even navigating the file explorer is more responsive. I only have an old i7 4790k and an R9 Fury, but I run mostly anything 60fps+. If you are considering it, especially given your i5 will be better at fps minimums than my i7, you should get one. You will not regret it

It will be fine, but know that in some newer games your CPU will be the bottleneck. My 4790k overclocked to 4.7Ghz can bottleneck my R9 Fury in both BO4 and PUBG, so a 2600k at any clocks would do the same in those games. Keep in mind a 1060 is slightly slower than a Fury and the 1070 is a bit faster, so if you went that route the bottleneck would be even more severe. Regardless, the 2600k can totally run any game at 45-60fps provided it backed up by a decent GPU. Its by no means obsolete but its just a year or two from not being able to run the newest games at good fps anymore.

People like my brother lol. Back in 2015 he bought a 980 ti HOF and an i7 4790k, which was the best shit for gaming back then. He paired it with a 1600x900 60hz monitor he got for free from our hs. I always told him that it wasn't a good value proposition, but he said and I quote: "I don't care if it makes sense. Vegetable got a reaction from bleedblue in Will a 1050 Ti bottleneck an i5-8400? + Extras
To further specify, your minimum fps would be VASTLY higher. I can give specifics since I've had both an FX 8350 and a 4790k (the 4790k is almost 1:1 with the 8400 in terms of fps in games.) Lets say in GTA V you get a min/max/average of 45/100/65, the FX system would get 25/80/65. Long story short the i5 system would give a massively smoother experience overall, less stuttering fps drops etc.

Yeah, in 1080p the 1950x will for sure bottleneck a 1080 ti. GTA V is one of those games that doesn't really like Ryzen that much. From what I can gather, it looks like it will run the same on a Ryzen 5 1400 as it would on your TR chip. Sorry about that. Also, 99.9% of the time a slow drive only affects loading times, not fps or anything once the game is loaded.

Hi all. Finally got the last piece to finish my PC. (for now at least) Thought I may as well share the tale of how she came to be. I've yet to come up with a good name for it, so if you have any suggestions pls halp, am not that creative or original lmao. Anyways, here goes:

Summer 2016: Got an FX 8350/990FX Sabertooth for $150 from a close friend, bought a PNY GTX 580 from @Bubblewhale and another off Ebay for a total of $90 for TWO 580's (already had case/PSU/HDD/RAM.) Between that and the FX 8350 at 4.9Ghz, I have NO IDEA how that poor TX850W didn't explode. Long story short it was the old 80plus model from 2009 that was brand new in box I got for $20. She kept me warm in the winter, that much is for sure. All of this was housed in my NZXT S210, complete with 7 fans. I actually had to do the same thing @Ryan Leech did for his 3-way SLI GTX 465 build, and mounted the radiator fans OUTSIDE the case because there was no clearance for them inside the case because of the motherboard. It was ghetto asf and worked great too. To summarize that, a $45 case with a $15 fan controller, and literally $100 worth of Corsair AF120/AF140 + 2 Noctua Redux fans for the Kraken.

    Here's pictures:

Here's the 580s in all their glory. The one from Bubblewhale is pristine (top card), and of course the Ebay 580 has ALL the stickers peeled off complete with irremovable adhesive residue!

And this was my whole setup back then. I just loved the sleeper aesthetic, and knowing I had 2 old as dirt GPUs in SLI for no other reason that it was cheap performance when it scaled.

Then I hit a wall. An oddly-specific-but-I-should-have-seen-it-coming wall. VRAM. I tried to tweak settings. I thought I could do 1080p with low textures and medium-high settings otherwise and be alright. That just wasn't the case. There was just too much stutter because it would choke out on it's measly 1.5GB of GDDR5. So I came up with another idea. Having built this entire PC with airflow for dual GPU's in mind, I wanted to keep that going strong. So I did. I traded some old Dell Vostro prebuilt I had for an EVGA GTX 570 2.5Gb edition via craigslist. They were sort of rare, but not to the point where the price was ridiculous. I got a matching card off ebay for $70. So yes, I went from SLI 580's to SLI 570's, BUT they both overclocked VERY well (I'm talking 900mhz and that was classified territory) and with the entire extra gig of VRAM, they performed great. Not to mention power consumption was down, heat output into the room was down, although noise remained about the same. I could turn the settings up now. High textures with medium settings (that's a very BROAD example with no game in specific mentioned, so obviously it depends on the game at the end of the day) was about where she could hold a steady 60fps in most titles. I was in love. I even got a HB SLI bridge off my local CL for a $5 bill just for luls. And no, it didn't change the performance. I tested it.

This was her from late 2016 thru march 2017:

Then something clicked. I found some brain cells or something idk man. I love all these pictures above a lot, but I can't believe I myself used them in retrospect. They were SO LOUD. Nothing else can be said. It was basically a hair dryer after 5-10 minutes under load. I can't stand even hearing my PC now lol. So I got tired of it. I wanted a quiet fast modern thing, not riding the 7 year old once was new and nice wave. I got my beloved R9 Fury NITRO (another card from @Bubblewhale for a great price of $210 back then) to replace the 570's in April 2017. She went into the S210 and I actually don't have a picture of that. I do have the Fury halfway unboxed from the day I got it, seen here:

I then got my i7 4790k+Z97 board from the same guy I got the FX platform from, for the low price of the FX chip/board+$150. I as well don't have any pictures of this but that's how she was until about 2 months ago. I got sick of looking at the turd, the sleeper aesthetic had worn off and she just looked like crap to me. I ordered a Phanteks P350X with the black/white interior and another AF140 for the radiator to match the one I already had for a complete push/pull. I pulled 2 of the AF120's out of the S210 for exhaust fans. It was time for a nice improvement in the looks department.

    Here's pics:

    Another one:

But there was 2 problems still. Number one, storage. I had a WD Black 1TB, and it was/is fine, just slow. Buddy of mine got an SSD, and as soon as I experienced it myself, there was no going back. I ordered a 1TB Adata SU800 SSD. I again don't have any pictures of this, but its just an SSD. I replaced my HDD altogether, it sits in a box as a trusty backup. Made a world of difference 10/10 would recommend an SSD for ANY computer. As for the other problem. It wasn't a big problem, just a minor inconvenience really. I was used to my pretty high airflow S210 tricked out like no other $40 case was meant to be, so when I got this case my GPU temps really did go up quite a bit. I used to run <70*C on the Fury in the old case, but in the P350X I was more around 76-77*C under load. That killed me, even though it's 100% safe. So I had to do something that the case wasn't intended to do, and bought another fan. But where do you put it? In the empty PCI slot covers of course. I pulled out the 4 slot covers and did some measuring, then ordered an 80mm red LED fan complete with a dust filter as well (all held in tightly with zip-ties.) Made load temps go from 76-77*C, to about 74*C peak after many hours of gaming or stress testing. It's really ghetto but it almost looks alright and it works wonders surprisingly. I also got an actual stick from outside, cut it to size, and painted that shit red to hold up the GPU. Compare the GPU sag now vs before and also peep the lil red fan:

And there ya have it folks. My baby. I'm sure this was lame but I wanted to do something so I spent 45 minutes writing this crap. Help me name her and leave your thoughts below if you feel so inclined.
