@SSOB Scary times, to think they wouldn't show the same results on a similar search. Still, I think it is a good find! If someone here beats it great, but thank you for your help too. Also I found it renewed for $50 less, but not sure my friend will go for that. I'm going to reach out, see what he thinks.

Anyone else, if you can beat the above laptop specs or price, thank you very much and I look forward to your suggestions.

That's interesting, but I've just now seen this - would you still recommend your selection @SSOB?

Personally, I think that you don't really need the air cooler at $49, could spend a little more and go AIO water, or less and get fine performance with something a little simpler like a Cooler Master 212 EVO or similar.

I would say that when/if you ever desire to upgrade your CPU to a K series part for overclocking, you will find that you want an AIO water solution anyway. But since the AIO solution won't provide much benefit if any in terms of your experience using the standard clocked i5, I would save the money now and go with the 212 Evo or similar. Put that money into an SSD, and you won't feel so bad about ditching the $50 air cooler later when you want to upgrade.

I myself started with a CM 212 EVO, but seeing as I had a K series i5 that was hot as hell, I upgraded to a h100i from Corsair for overclocking. Ultimately proved futile, as my little chip is just about worthless for overclocking. Many hours of tweaking, low voltages, high voltages, aiming at modest clockspeed boosts and still no stability. Eventually decided to just run it stock, keep the AIO cooler for an upgrade.

If you are only interested in the specified cooler for aesthetic reasons, then I suppose this argument won't sway you much, but the clean metal finish and black fans common to most tower air coolers wouldn't likely be an eyesore. Especially if it is only temporary pending an upgrade as discussed.

Long story short that's my two cents, good luck on the build, and an overall nice job picking parts for your budget. Shame that you'll have to buy an OS, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Jake Dalay got a reaction from Andrew Sh in PC keeps crashing when running graphic intensive tasks. (Gaming)
What are the specs of your rig?
Do you have a discrete GPU?

If so, I might suggest removing the GPU, and running on onboard graphics (since I don't know your setup, I'm just assuming you have onboard graphics).

If that works, then it could be a problem with your GPU.

You should check the CPU and GPU temps as recommended above, to see if that is the issue, before doing my advice if only for convenience's sake.

    Also, is your system overclocked?

Also, my novice brain says maybe your power supply isn't functioning properly, as running a game is probably your most power-intensive use of the PC.

Anyway, answer those questions, give my troubleshoot a try, and let the more knowledgeable folks here help you out, this is about all I've got =).

There is one legal way to get Windows 8.1 for free.

But it isn't fast enough for you.

Step one: make friends with someone who bought an extra copy of Windows 8.1
Step two: Drop hints that your birthday is approaching, and that you would love Windows 8.1
Step three: Survive until your birthday, and Presto! You receive a copy of Windows 8.1

Alternatively, if you have a copy of Windows 7, when Windows 10 launches you can upgrade straight to 10 for free.
EDIT: didn't see the other windows 10 posts, but yes, you would need to upgrade from a valid OS, Windows 7 or later.

Wish I could be of more help.

If everything else fails, Bethesda has thoughtfully provided an improved texture pack DLC available free through Steam. It isn't the best, but it beats console graphics.

I'm sure it's available elsewhere, but Steam is probably the easiest option if you bought the game through Steam.

    Hey LTT forum folk!

I recently purchased an entirely new rig, and the centerpiece for the whole build, by a large margin, is my new GTX 780.

What I'm looking for here is GTX 780 overclocking recommendations.

I am a novice overclocker, and so I certainly could use some advice, especially with regards to overvolting, but recommendations for every aspect of the overclock will be taken into account by me for sure, so fire away!

(a specific question: is the 38mv overvolting possible in Precision X safe? Card needs to last 2 or 3 years minimum.)

Im also open to suggestions for good ways to test if the overclock is stable, as well as for identifying artifacts in-game.

Thanks in advance for the help, I certainly am in need of it.

    My system, fyi:
    Arc Midi R2,

Wow despite 100% load I only hit 16amps which is less than 200watts, interesting.  Yes 40-45amps is MORE than enough for a 770.

I personally wouldn't. I look at linus as a person who can get details out quick and is more or less a quick overview kind of guy and I go to TTL overclock3d for someone who is going to go super in depth over things that I care about.

IT IS BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE GAMING WITH THE CARD IN AN
I7 EQUIPPED 1080P LAPTOP FOR THE PAST YEAR.

    CONTENTS:

    1. General traits of the GPU.
    2. Pros
    3. Cons.
    4. Star rating and conclusion.

    1. GENERAL TRAITS OF THE GPU

    The GT 650M (2GB) features:
    -384 CUDA cores,
    -128 bit memory interface,
    -900MHz clock speed
-and it is a DirectX 11 card.

    2. Pros:
First, the card really performs for the money. I am able to play basically any game at medium
settings without horrible framerates. 90% of the time, gameplay is enjoyable and not frustrating
    from a visual performance perspective.

I would say that the primary benefit of the GT 650M is that you can find it in many models of laptops
    unlike its more advanced brothers.

Also, again, it comes with decent power vs cost. In 2012, it was a very good deal for me.

    3. Cons:
For a serious gamer, this card simply doesn't have enough power. But given that it is a mobile
card, this is to be somewhat expected.

Some games simply are too much for this card to be enjoyable (Heroes and Generals) even at lower settings,
though admittedly some of the titles I had in mind for this were in Beta or in some other abnormal state.

    4. Star rating and conclusion.
At the time of purchase, and coming from a GT 220, I would have given this card an 8 out of 10 star review.
Now in 2013, I would rate it at 7 out of 10, as its value declines with each day that Haswell is closer to release.

My conclusion is that with an Ivy-bridge laptop, the 650M is a valuable addition and quite a price performer.
However, with Haswell chips reportedly shipping with graphics as powerful as the 650M on their own, and furthermore,
the 700 series of GPU's being released/already available in laptops... I cannot recommend the 650M at this time.

Thank you for reading my review of the Nvidia GT 650M (2GB) and for all the 650M owners out there, smooth and happy gaming to you!
