  1. What site are you ordering it from that the LG is £200 off? Please do share as I'm itching to order one!
  2. Thanks o0Martin. I'd be very interested to hear your impressions of the LG 34UC87M. Out of curiosity, what made you select that over the Dell? And yes, on occasion I'll run multiple machines connected to the same monitor at the same time (picture by picture). Some of the reviews I read on the Dell said the included cables cause flicker when using the DP or mDP. Just wondering if that was a cabling issue or an issue with resolution/refresh rate with that input. Also wasn't sure if the Dell supporting mixing inputs in that capacity. Also from my research, it appears that LG makes the screen for the Dell unit. Not sure if its exactly the same screen - though that appears to be the case.
  3. I've been researching 34-inch Ultrawide monitors for some time now. Outside of the painstaking process of coming to the decision to drop the extra cash on one versus a multi-monitor setup, my dilemma is knowing which display to purchase. There are many competitors in this market: Dell UltraSharp U3415W LG 34UC87M-B Acer XR341CKbmijpphz LG 34UM95-P LG 34UC97-S LG 34UC97C-B LG 34UC87-S Samsung S34E790C AOC u3477Pqu Philips BDM3470UP But after some time with Google (probably should have used DuckDuckGo, but I digress) I've narrowed it down, with limited confidence, to either the LG 34UC87M-B or the Dell UltraSharp U3415W, Based on my knowledge, the difference between these monitors really comes down to the stand and ports. From the reviews I've seen, the stands seem on par with one another. The ports, however, are a slightly different story. The Dell has more USB 3.0 ports, but fewer HDMI and no Thunderbolt ports. I own a MacBook Pro, but use it infrequently so the Thunderbolt ports aren't a huge deal either way. The bigger issue is the fewer HDMI ports on the Dell. From what I've read, the LG is fully (and easily) capable of supporting multiple displays). This appeals to me specifically as I'm a developer who often works on a desktop, but sometimes needs the portability of a tablet/laptop and would appreciate being able to pull up notes from my mobile device alongside the code I'm working on. Is it possible/feasible to use the Display port and HDMI with either product simultaneously? Does anyone have hands on experience with either model that they can share? I had considered ordering both and returning the one I like least - but would prefer not to put that burden on the vendor. Of significant note (though for me personally mitigated by performance) is the cost differential between the two: From NewEgg the Dell is currently $899 (with an additional discount available) and the LG is $1099. 4. I write software by trade and am looking for a monitor (or monitor combination) that supports that as its primary purpose. For breaks, I do watch some videos and play a few games (mostly online things). Point being, I stare at the screen a lot and need something that supports productivity and isn't going to cause eye strain. Based on some of the Linus reviews, I've been looking at 21:9 monitors and some 4K displays. I'm having a hard time trying to decide whether to ditch the customary multi-monitor setup in lieu of a single, larger real-estate screen (read as more pixels) and if so, which unit/direction to go. I'm currently leaning strongly towards the LG34UC97 or LG34UM95 but would like others experiences to know help identify the current leader; which does not have to come from LG or be one of these models. I'm not opposed to waiting a few weeks (or a couple months) if the next best thing comes out in March/April/May. Basically looking to make a smart purchase that I won't regret 4 months from now. Anyone care to share experiences/thoughts? Regards, Aggromonster
