So I lost interest in technology the past 2 years and I've recently been looking up how far everything has come since, and I am just disappointed. 2 years ago I thought quantum computers would be mainstream by now. And prices would have fallen, etc. Is it just me or is the computer scene just lame now?

im going on a road trip and need a laptop to basically last the entire trip. it also needs to be able to run linux.

How would I go about troubleshooting it now. What component should I be testing?

When it died, it wasn't even moving I just had it on the table. The charge was about 60% if I recall correctly. I didn't even put the AC adapter in before it died. Do you perhaps think the battery fried a component?

Yes, the charger is here http://www.ebay.com/itm/351812524485 Although the title doesn't have my laptop in it, it has the same connector and wattage (19V, 3.42A). I completely removed the battery and just tried powering off the AC adapter and still nothing.

Well that doesn't solve my problem, the laptop is showing no signs of life now.

So I just ordered a new battery and charger from a laptop a friend gave me because he didn't have battery or charger. I put in the battery and every thing worked fine for 10 minutes. Then, while in the middle of reinstalling Windows, the power completely cut out. I tried removing the battery and just using the AC adapter for power and I get nothing. Hello, I am shopping for a new laptop for my mother who has a budget of $200-$300. She will mainly use it for web browsing, word processing, and work applications. It must be able to run Windows (No Chromebooks). She prefers to get one at BestBuy but I can also buy one from Amazon if theres a good deal. Suggestions?

So I was messing around on my laptop and I took out the battery while the machine was on. The laptop then shut off so I rebooted it and Windows said something like UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME so I let the automatic repair run and to no avail it didn't work. So since I don't have anything valuable on my hard drive, I just decided to reinstall Windows. It kept getting stuck on "Setup is starting" so I just decided to run diskpart to wipe the hard drive. Diskpart didn't work so I put the hard drive in my main rig. I cannot get it to load in diskpart either. Even the disk management tool in Windows freezes when I run it with the drive connected. Also tried formatting it, and that freezes too. Here is what it looks like in the File Explorer (E:): I am honestly stuck on what to do. Is it dead? I mean, when connected the drive powers on and spins.
