  3. Ryzen 7 3700X and an ASRock Phantom Gaming 4 mobo. I think it might be a motherboard compatibility issue, although ASRock's website says 4000MHz+ should be possible.
  4. Thanks for the comment. RAM's been confusing me for a while now, used to be "just buy whatever RAM you like the look of", now you've gotta take all sorts of things into consideration, things I hadn't even heard of before, haha. I'll see if my current DIMMs work fine and if so, buy another kit. Thanks!
  5. Budget (including currency): ~2000€ excluding GPU. Country: the Netherlands. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mainly Hunt: Showdown and simracing on a 31:9 monitor (iracing, Assetto Corsa Compeitizione, or F1 2020 when I hate myself), and of course future proofing as much as possible. I've currently got this build pieced together (excluding GPU as I'll buy that once prices aren't ridiculous); RAM (listed below) and GPU (GTX 1070) will be reused for now PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor (Purchased For €0.00) CPU Cooler: Fractal Design Celsius+ S36 Prisma PWM ARGB 85.71 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (€153.85 @ Megekko) Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard (€207.29 @ Amazon Netherlands) Memory: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (Purchased For €0.00) Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (€399.00) Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 4 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€449.55 @ Amazon Netherlands) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 10 GB Founders Edition Video Card Case: Corsair 5000D AIRFLOW ATX Mid Tower Case (€144.90 @ Amazon Netherlands) Power Supply: be quiet! I've tried fixing the issue numerous times but every time I go above 3333MHz my PC gets stuck in a boot loop. I wanna see if it's maybe CPU/motherboard related. If it runs fine in my new setup I'll buy an additional 2x8 kit, otherwise I'll probably get a 4x8 4000MHz CL18 kit of some kind (providing my understanding of 4000MHz CL18, and 4 DIMMs being the sweet spot for the 5950X is correct) - Motherboard: A few reasons; I've got a lot of USB devices connected (I think about 8 or 9), this mobo has plenty USB ports, I want at least two M.2 NVMe slots for future expansion, and loads of mobos I found fitting these requirements aren't compatible with the 5000D Airflow's front I/O USB ports according to PC Part Picker. This one is, so hence the choice. Any feedbacks or tips are appreciated!
  6. This week I completed a new build (link if anyone's interested) and although it's great in terms of gaming performance, I'm not quite sure the cooling aspect is as good. I first used the stock Wraith Prism, but that was so incredibly loud I decided to buy an AIO (Corsair H100X) anyway. Although it does run much quieter, I'm not quite sure it's running as it should. Looking at the motherboard's layout in the manual, I connected the two front fans to CHA_FAN1 and CHA_FAN2, the AIO's own connector to CPU_FAN1 and the two fan connectors to CPU_FAN2 using the included y-splitter. Although my CPU temps at idle hover around 40 degrees now (which I'm more than happy with), two of the fans are still at high RPMs; Obviously the Chassis1 and Chassis2 fans are the fans at the front of the case, but I'm unsure which fans exactly are CPU1, CPU2 and SB_FAN1. Did I hook everything up correctly or did I go wrong somewhere? Apart from the fans spinning at high speeds, there's also a humming noise I can't pin point the source of. Could this be related to the high fan speeds? Any help would be appreciated!
  7. I know, but I want two separate drives specifically so I could upgrade the game/program one down the line without having to reinstall Windows. Do you mean 3600? Don't think the 3700 is a CPU. Either way, I don't really need to save a buck, the 3700X is good As for cleaning up space, I'll have a look at your links, thanks!
  8. Been slowly building and changing parts list for a new build the last few weeks, and I'm finally ready to buy the components. Before I do so though, I'd like a last round of feedback or suggestions. Main purposes will be gaming and (web) development, components will be bought in the Netherlands. Lastly, I'm trying to go for a black/orange theme, which some of my choices are based around. Current part list: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor ($326.96 @ OutletPC) Cooler: Stock AMD Cooler for now, might go AIO down the road Motherboard: ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 ATX AM4 Motherboard (€175.00) Memory: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($99.99 @ Newegg) Storage: ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($69.98 @ Amazon) Storage: ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($69.98 @ Amazon) Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB Video Card (Purchased For €0.00) Case: be quiet! Silent Base 800 ATX Mid Tower Case (€113.05) Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS Plus Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (€115.00) Total: $566.91 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-10-19 08:58 EDT-0400 I already have the GTX 1070, just listed it so y'all would know I've got a GPU already. Some reasoning behind my choices; CPU: Probably the hardest decision, either Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel i7 9700k. I decided to go AMD since a lot of people recommended it, and despite the Ryzen being 50€ cheaper for pretty much the same performance, the cost would eventually equal out as 3rd gen Ryzen requires a more expensive motherboard. Speaking of; Motherboard: Basically the cheapest X570, RGB motherboard with support for two m.2 drives I could find. I looked at picking a X470 motherboard, but wasn't really willing to go through the hassle of flashing the BIOS just to get my PC working, despite lower costs. Storage: I've currently got a 256 GB SSD, alongside a 1TB (documents, pictures, the lot) and 3TB (lotta games, lotta programs) HDD. I want to turn the 256 GB SSD into a Linux installation I can use for (web) development projects, so it won't be used for Windows anymore. I was debating between one 1TB nvme drive, or two 500gb nvme drives, and decided on the latter so I can keep my windows installation on one, and games/programs on the other. This also means I can always expand the second drive to a larger one, without having to reinstall Windows. I opted for 500gb for my OS drive as I've noticed my current 256 GB drive fills up rather quickly anytime I clear it, so this gives me a bit more room to play with. In terms of price there's about a 10€ difference between 1x1TB/2x500GB, so not that much. Memory: Again, cheapest 3600mhz 16GB RGB kit I liked the look of. Case: Fits the black/orange theme ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ PSU: Fully modulair, more than enough wattage and I've seen SeaSonic praised for their PSUs, so why not. Lastly a quick question; is cloning Windows 10 to a new drive recommended? I saw it mentioned in a discord server recently and within minutes of each other, two knowledgeable guys said opposite things. One said "yes, it's fine, I did it as well", the other said "it's doable, but can lead to system instability". What's the right thing to do here, clone or clean install? As I said, any feedback/suggestions are welcome, thanks in advance!
  9. Thanks for the feedback! My concerns with motherboard compatibility mainly come from claims of possibly needing to flash the BIOS before being able to use newer Ryzen CPUs, and as I've never done that before I'd rather stay away from it. Glad to hear that ain't an issue though.
  10. My current build has been the same (bar a GPU upgrade 2 years ago) for the past 3/4 years. I've finally got the financial means to start thinking about an upgrade, and I'll be upgrading everything except my GPU (GTX 1070). I mostly use my PC for gaming (GTA V, Siege, FIFA, NBA 2k and F1 201x are the games I currently play most, but I also want to replay Sniper Elite and the Wolfenstein series). I also run the occasional VM for development and sometimes render simple videos (mostly shortened Shadowplay clips). My budget can go up to 1500€ excluding the GPU, I'll upgrade that some time down the line. I took this build as a base and modified it to suit my needs to come up with this build; PCPartPicker Part List CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor (€395.00) CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X62 Liquid CPU Cooler (€150.00) Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ELITE ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (€178.00) Memory: Kingston HyperX Predator RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (€110.00) Storage: Crucial MX500 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For €0.00) Storage: Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (€113.74 @ Megekko) Storage: Western Digital Blue 1 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (€0.00) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For €0.00) Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB Video Card (Purchased For €0.00) Case: NZXT H700i ATX Mid Tower Case (€170.00) Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS Plus Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (€90.00) Total: €1206.74 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-08-05 08:57 CEST+0200 I'll be buying everything in the Netherlands, I'm not quite sure why it says "+ Total (Deutschland)" at the bottom. The storage devices listed for 0€ are the ones I currently have (or well, capacity wise at least). The only thing I'm still unsure about is the CPU. Some friends have told me to go for a Ryzen 5 3600, but personal inexperience with AMD CPUs and apparent incompatibility with certain motherboards and RAM configurations makes me doubtful to go that route. I could go for an i5-9600k instead to save some money as I doubt an i7 makes much difference in gaming, but on the other hand, I can afford it so why not. Lastly I won't be buying any peripherals, monitors or anything else, I'll possibly be upgrading those down the line some time as well. Any thoughts?
  11. Sorry for the late reply, but thanks for your answers. I've decided to wait for a bit, since my current keyboard is sufficient enough. I'm more interested in buying a new case (and/or PSU), since they are of a lot less quality than my current keyboard.
  12. The last couple of days I've been thinking if I'd want to get my first mechanical keyboard, but I honestly don't know if it'd be worth it. My current keyboard is a Sharkoon Skiller Pro, and I'm rather happy with it. The only thing I don't like about it is how the keys sometimes feel rather stiff. Other than that, it has dedicated multimedia keys (not on the F-keys), it's a full-size keyboard (which I prefer) a it has a nice blue backlight. It also has macro keys, but I never use them since I never found a use for them (if you have tips what I could use them for, let me know). Is the slightly more satisfying typing experience worth the ~€100? I mean, most of the features my keyboard has (multimedia keys, macro keys, backlight) seem to be missing from the cheaper mechanical keyboards so I find it difficult to justify the price. As for what I'd use it for; mainly just typing and programming. Occasionally gaming, but I mostly play racing or sport games, which I use my controller for so I don't need my keyboard for those. Do you think it'd be worth it for me?
