I just installed a firmware update on my Steam Controller.

Guess what the update did.

It added Bluetooth. They made a Steam Link app for phones and in order to let people use their controllers with their phones, they pushed a firmware update that just... Enables Bluetooth.

I have so many questions.

the way it worked previously was it used the same radio frequencies as Bluetooth but a custom protocol that has lower latency. the steam controller has always had the physical support for Bluetooth but just not the software/firmware.

I'd never even seen the suggestion that it could use Bluetooth before. Is there some analysis or technical information I missed? 'Cause this is kind of a huge feature to just suddenly add in software 3 years later.

They did not want people to use Bluetooth as it was slower and also there was no reason to use it. if you want wireless use the adapter, and you can always use a micro usb cable. also Bluetooth supposedly uses more battery.
